Holographic Rényi entropy in AdS$_3$/LCFT$_2$ correspondence

The recent study in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ correspondence shows that the tree level contribution and 1-loop correction of holographic Rényi entanglement entropy (HRE) exactly match the direct CFT computation in the large central charge limit. This allows the Rényi entanglement entropy to be a new window to study the AdS/CFT correspondence. In this paper we generalize the study of Rényi entanglement entropy in pure AdS$_3$ gravity to the massive gravity theories at the critical points. For the cosmological topological massive gravity (CTMG), the dual conformal field theory (CFT) could be a chiral conformal field theory or a logarithmic conformal field theory (LCFT), depending on the asymptotic boundary conditions imposed. In both cases, by studying the short interval expansion of the Rényi entanglement entropy of two disjoint intervals with small cross ratio $x$, we find that the classical and 1-loop HRE are in exact match with the CFT results, up to order $x^6$. To this order, the difference between the massless graviton and logarithmic mode can be seen clearly. Moreover, for the cosmological new massive gravity (CNMG) at critical point, which could be dual to a logarithmic CFT as well, we find the similar agreement in the CNMG/LCFT correspondence. Furthermore we read the 2-loop correction of graviton and logarithmic mode to HRE from CFT computation. It has distinct feature from the one in pure AdS$_3$ gravity.

Li1.1(Zn1-xCrx)As: Cr doped I-II-V Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors in Bulk Form

We report the synthesis and characterization of bulk form diluted magnetic semiconductors I-II-V Li1.1(Zn1-xCrx)As (x = 0.03, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15)with a cubic crystal structure identical to that of III-V GaAs and II-VI zinc-blende ZnSe. With p-type carriers created by excess Li, 10% Cr substitution for Zn results in a ferromagnetic ordering below TC ~ 218 K. Li(Zn,Cr)As represents another magnetic semiconducting system with the advantage of decoupling carriers and spins, where carriers are created by adding extra Li and spins are introduced by Cr substitution for Zn.

Ba(Zn1-2xMnxCox)2As2: A Bulk Form Diluted Magnetic Semiconductor with n-type Carriers

We report the synthesis and characterization of bulk form diluted magnetic semiconductors Ba(Zn1-2xMnxCox)2As2 (0 <= x <= 0.15) with a crystal structure identical to that of 122-type Fe-based superconductors. Mn and Co co-doping into the parent compound BaZn2As2 results in a ferromagnetic ordering below TC ~ 80 K. Hall effect measurements indicate that the carrier are n-type with the density of ~10^17/cm3. The common crystal structure and excellent lattice matching between the p-type ferromagnetic (Ba1-yKy)(Zn1-xMnx)2As2, the n-type ferromagnetic Ba(Zn1-2xMnxCox)2As2, the antiferrmagnetic BaMn2As2 and the superconducting Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 systems make it possible to make various junctions between these systems through the As layer.

A new diluted magnetic semiconductor system, (Sr3La2O5)(Zn1-xMnx)2As2, has been synthesized and characterized. 10% Mn substitution for Zn in bulk form (Sr3La2O5)Zn2As2 results in a ferromagnetic ordering below Curie temperature, TC ~ 40 K. (Sr3La2O5)(Zn1-xMnx)2As2 has a layered crystal structure identical to that of 32522-type Fe based superconductors, and represents the fifth DMS family that has a direct counterpart among the FeAs high temperature superconductor families.

On short interval expansion of Rényi entropy

Rényi entanglement entropy provides a new window to study the AdS/CFT correspondence. In this paper we consider the short interval expansion of Rényi entanglement entropy in two-dimensional conformal field theory. This amounts to do the operator product expansion of the twist operators. We focus on the vacuum Verma module and consider the quasiprimary operators constructed from the stress tensors. After obtaining the expansion coefficients of the twist operators to level 6 in vacuum Verma module, we compute the leading contributions to the Rényi entropy, to order 6 in the short interval expansion. In the case of one short interval on cylinder, we reproduce the first several leading contributions to the Rényi entropy. In the case of two short disjoint intervals with a small cross ratio $x$, we obtain not only the classical and 1-loop quantum contributions to the Rényi entropy to order $x^6$, both of which are in perfect match with the ones found in gravity, but also the leading $1/c$ contributions, which corresponds to 2-loop corrections in the bulk.

The synthesis and characterization of 1111-type diluted magnetic semiconductors (La1-xSrx)(Zn1-xTMx)AsO (TM = Mn, Fe, Co)

The doping effect of Sr and transition metals Mn, Fe, Co into the direct-gap semiconductor LaZnAsO has been investigated. Our results indicate that the single phase ZrCuSiAs-type tetragonal crystal structure is preserved in (La1-xSrx)(Zn1-xTMx)AsO (TM = Mn, Fe, Co) with the doping level up to x = 0.1. While the system remains semiconducting, doping with Sr and Mn results in ferromagnetic order with TC ~ 30K, and doping with Sr and Fe results in a spin glass like state below ~6K with a saturation moment of ~0.02 muB/Fe, an order of magnitude smaller than the ~0.4 muB/Mn of Sr and Mn doped samples. The same type of magnetic state is observed neither for (Zn,Fe) substitution without carrier doping, nor for Sr and Co doped specimens.

Aspects of Warped AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ Correspondence

In this paper we apply the thermodynamics method to investigate the holographic pictures for the BTZ black hole, the spacelike and the null warped black holes in three-dimensional topologically massive gravity (TMG) and new massive gravity (NMG). Even though there are higher derivative terms in these theories, the thermodynamics method is still effective. It gives consistent results with the ones obtained by using asymptotical symmetry group (ASG) analysis. In doing the ASG analysis we develop a brute-force realization of the Barnich-Brandt-Compere formalism with Mathematica code, which also allows us to calculate the masses and the angular momenta of the black holes. In particular, we propose the warped AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ correspondence in the new massive gravity, which states that quantum gravity in the warped spacetime could holographically dual to a two-dimensional CFT with $c_R=c_L=\f{24}{Gm\b^2\sr{2(21-4\b^2)}}$.

The Embedded Transparent Lens and Fermat's Least-Time Principle

We present a simplified version of the lowest-order embedded point mass gravitational lens theory and then make the extension of this theory to any embedded transparent lens. Embedding a lens effectively reduces the gravitational potential's range, i.e., partially shields the lensing potential because the lens mass is made a contributor to the mean mass density of the universe and not simply superimposed upon it. We give the time-delay function for the embedded point mass lens from which we can derive the simplified lens equation by applying Fermat's least-time principle. Even though rigorous derivations are only made for the point mass in a flat background, the generalization of the lens equation to lowest-order for any distributed lens in any homogeneous background is obvious. We find from this simplified theory that embedding can introduce corrections above the few percent level in weak lensing shears caused by large clusters but only at large impacts. The potential part of the time delay is also affected in strong lensing at the few percent level. Additionally we again confirm that the presence of a cosmological constant alters the gravitational deflection of passing photons.

D2 Chern-Simons Gravity

We study the theory that contains two spin-2 fields. This theory can be regarded as a simplified version of higher spin gravity in AdS3. It can be formulated either in the first order formulation or in the second order formulation. From the first order formulation we construct the black holes in the theory and study the thermodynamics of this black holes with the help of dual holographic OPE. From the higher spin point of view, this black hole is most naturally regarded as a black hole with a spin-2 hair. In the second order formulation, we obtain an action for the metric and extra spin-2 fields and analyze the corresponding black holes. Even though for some simple cases, the conventional notions, such as the horizon, may help us to read part of the information of the black hole, they break down in generic cases. On the other hand, the action in the second order formulation could be rewritten in the form of a decoupled AdS3 bi-gravity. Moreover, the entropy of the black hole with the spin-2 hair could be reproduced from the AdS3 bi-gravity in the Euclidean path-integral formalism.

Unextendible maximally entangled bases and mutually unbiased bases

We study unextendible maximally entangled basis in arbitrary bipartite spaces. A systematic way of constructing a set of $d^{2}$ orthonormal maximally entangled states in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d'}(\frac{d'}{2}<d<d')$ is provided. The complementary space of the set of these $d^{2}$ orthonormal maximally entangled states contains no maximally entangled states that are orthogonal to all of them. Furthermore, we investigate mutually unbiased bases in which all the bases are unextendible maximally entangled ones. We present two unextendible maximally entangled bases in $\mathbb{C}^{2}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{3}$ which are mutually unbiased.

Note on generalized gravitational entropy in Lovelock gravity

The recently proposed gravitational entropy generalize the usual black hole entropy to Euclidean solutions without U(1) symmetry in the framework of Einstein gravity. The entropy of such smooth configuration is given by the area of minimal surface, therefore explaining the Ryu-Takayanagi formula of holographic entanglement entropy. In this note we investigate the generalized gravitational entropy for general Lovelock gravity in arbitrary dimensions. We use the replica trick and consider the Euclidean bulk spacetime with conical singularity localized at a codimension two surface. We obtain a constraint equation for the surface by requiring the bulk equation of motion to be of good behavior. When the bulk spacetime is maximally symmetric, the constraints show that the traces of the extrinsic curvatures of the surface are vanishing, i.e. the surface has to be geometrically a minimal surface. However the constraint equation cannot be obtained by the variation of the known functional for holographic entanglement entropy in Lovelock gravity.

Effect of Selenium doping on the superconductivity of Nb$_2$Pd(S$_{1-x}$Se$_x$)$_5$

We study the isovalent substitution effect by partially introducing Se on S site in the newly discovered superconductor Nb$_2$PdS$_5$ ($T_c\sim$6 K) whose upper critical field is found to be far above its Pauli paramagnetic limit. In this Nb$_2$Pd(S$_{1-x}$Se$_x$)$_5$ (0$\leq$$x$$\leq$0.8) system, superconductivity is systematically suppressed by the Se concentration and ultimately disappears when $x\geq$ 0.5, after which a semiconducting-like ground state emerges. In spite of the considerably reduced $T_c$ with Se doping, the ratio of the upper critical field $H_{c2}$ to $T_c$, remains unaffected. Moreover, the size of the heat capacity jump at $T_c$ is smaller than that expected for a BCS superconductor, implying that a strong-coupling theory cannot be the origin of this large upper critical field. In addition, the low-lying quasiparticle excitations are consistent with a nodeless gap opening over the Fermi surface. These results combined impose severe constraints on any theory of exotic superconductivity in this system.

Dust, Gas, and Metallicities of Cosmologically Distant Lens Galaxies

We homogeneously analyzed the \chandra\ X-ray observations of 10 gravitational lenses, HE 0047-1756, QJ 0158-4325, SDSS 0246-0805, HE 0435-1223, SDSS 0924+0219, SDSS 1004+4112, HE 1104-1805, PG 1115+080, Q 1355-2257, and Q 2237+0305, to measure the differential X-ray absorption between images, the metallicity, and the dust-to-gas ratio of the lens galaxies. We detected differential absorption in all lenses except SDSS 0924+0219 and HE 1104-1805. This doubles the sample of dust-to-gas ratio measurements in cosmologically distant lens galaxies. We successfully measured the gas phase metallicity of three lenses, Q 2237+0305, SDSS 1004+4112, and B 1152+199 from the X-ray spectra. Our results suggest a linear correlation between metallicity and dust-to-gas ratio (i.e., a constant metal-to-dust ratio), consistent with what is found for nearby galaxies. We obtain an average dust-to-gas ratio $E(B-V)/N_H=1.17^{+0.41}_{-0.31} \times 10^{-22}\rm mag\,cm^2\,atom^{-1}$ in the lens galaxies, with an intrinsic scatter of $\rm0.3\,dex$. Combining these results with data from GRB afterglows and quasar foreground absorbers, we found a mean dust-to-gas ratio $\mdtg,$ now significantly lower than the average Galactic value, $1.7\,\times 10^{-22}\,\rm mag\, cm^{2}\, atoms^{-1}.$ This suggests evolution of dust-to-gas ratios with redshift and lower average metallicities for the higher redshift galaxies, consistent with current metal and dust evolution models of interstellar medium. The slow evolution in the metal-to-dust ratio with redshift implies very rapid dust formation in high redshift ($z>2$) galaxies.

Conical Defects, Black Holes and Higher Spin (Super-)Symmetry

We study the (super-)symmetries of classical solutions in the higher spin (super-)gravity in AdS$_3$. We show that the symmetries of the solutions are encoded in the holonomy around the spatial circle. When the spatial holonomies of the solutions are trivial, they preserve maximal symmetries of the theory, and are actually the smooth conical defects. We find all the smooth conical defects in the $sl(N), so(2N+1),sp(2N), so(2N), g_2$, as well as in $sl(N|N-1)$ and $osp(2N+1|2N)$ Chern-Simons gravity theories. In the bosonic higher spin cases, there are one-to-one correspondences between the smooth conical defects and the highest weight representations of Lie group. Furthermore we investigate the higher spin black holes in $osp(3|2)$ and $sl(3|2)$ higher spin (super-)gravity and find that they are only partially symmetric. In general, the black holes break all the supersymmetries, but in some cases they preserve part of the supersymmetries.

Thermodynamics in Black-hole/CFT Correspondence

The area law of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole suggests that the black hole should have a lower-dimensional holographic description. It has been found recently that a large class of rotating and charged black holes could be holographically described a two-dimensional (2D) conformal field theory (CFT). We show that the universal information of the dual CFT, including the central charges and the temperatures, is fully encoded in the thermodynamics laws of both outer and inner horizons. These laws, characterizing how the black hole responds under the perturbation, allows us to read different dual pictures with respect to different kinds of perturbations. The remarkable effectiveness of this thermodynamics method suggest that the inner horizon could play a key role in the study of holographic description of the black hole.

Electromagnetic Duality in Dyonic RN/CFT Correspondence

The area law of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole suggests that the black hole should have a lower-dimensional holographic description. It has been found recently that such holographic pictures could be set up from the study of the thermodynamics of both outer and inner horizons for a large class of rotating and charged black holes. For a four-dimensional dyonic Reissner-Nordström black hole, its thermodynamics indicates that it has multiple holographic pictures not only the electric and magnetic ones corresponding to the conserved electric and magnetic charges carried by the black hole, but also the more generic ones generated by the $SL(2,Z)$ transformations. We show that this $SL(2,Z)$ group originates from the underlying electromagnetic duality symmetry in the Einstein-Maxwell theory. It turns out that the thermodynamics of the black hole not only encodes the information of holographic pictures; moreover it could reflect the symmetries of the underlying theory.

Multiband Superconductivity of Heavy Electrons in TlNi2Se2 single crystal

Superconductivity has been first observed in TlNi$_2$Se$_2$ at T$_C$=3.7 K and appears to involve heavy electrons with an effective mass $m^*$=14$\sim$20 $m_b$, as inferred from the normal state electronic specific heat and the upper critical field, H_${C2}$(T). Although the zero-field electronic specific heat data, $C_{es}(T)$, in low temperatures (T < 1/4 T$_C$) can be fitted with a gap BCS model, indicating that TlNi$_2$Se$_2$ is a fully gapped superconductor, the two-gap BCS model presents the best fit to all the $C_{es}(T)$ data below $T_C$. It is also found that the electronic specific heat coefficient in the mixed state, $γ_N(H)$, exhibits a \textit{H}$^{1/2}$ behavior, which was also observed in some \textit{s}-wave superconductors, although once considered as a common feature of the \textit{d}-wave superconductors. Anyway, these results indicate that TlNi$_2$Se$_2$, as a non-magnetic analogue of TlFe$_x$Se$_2$ superconductor, is a multiband superconductor of heavy electron system.

Magnetic properties in layered (K, Rb and Cs)Co2Se2 with ThCr2Si2_type structure

The magnetic properties of ThCr_2Si_2-type single crystals ACo_2Se_2 (A = K, Rb and Cs) have been investigated by magnetic susceptibility and isothermal magnetization measurements at various temperatures. The ferromagnetic phase transition temperatures are estimated as $\approx$ 74 K and 76 K and 62 K for A = K, Rb and Cs (in case of high magnetic field), respectively. The susceptibility data in the paramagnetic state obey the modified Curie-Weiss law quite well and the derived effective magnetic moments of the Co atom are about 2.21, 2.04 and 2.04 μ_B/Co and the corresponding spontaneous moments derived at the ground state are 0.72, 0.59 and 0.52 μ_B/Co as well as the generalized Rhodes-Wohlfarth ratios as 3.07, 3.42 and 3.96 for A= K, Rb and Cs, respectively. The magnetic moment aligns within ab-plane and a metamagnetism-like behavior occurs at a field of 3.5 T in CsCo_2Se_2 with H//ab-plane. The magnetic properties in this system were discussed within the frameworks of the self-consistent renormalization (SCR) and Takahashi's theory of spin fluctuations.
