Holographic Superconductors with various condensates in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We study holographic superconductors in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We consider two particular backgrounds: a $d$-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet-AdS black hole and a Gauss-Bonnet-AdS soliton. We discuss in detail the effects that the mass of the scalar field, the Gauss-Bonnet coupling and the dimensionality of the AdS space have on the condensation formation and conductivity. We also study the ratio $ω_g/T_c $ for various masses of the scalar field and Gauss-Bonnet couplings.

Signature of the black hole phase transition in quasinormal modes

We study the perturbation of the scalar field interacting with the Maxwell field in the background of d-dimensional charged AdS black hole and AdS soliton. Different from the single classical field perturbation, which always has the decay mode in the black hole background, we observe the possible growing mode when the perturbation of the scalar field strongly couples to the Maxwell field. Our results disclose the signature of how the phase transition happens when the interaction among classical fields is strong. The sudden change of the perturbation to growing mode is also observed in the AdS soliton with electric potential. However in the magnetic charged AdS soliton background, we observe the consistent perturbation behavior when the interaction between scalar field and Maxwell field is considered. This implies that for the magnetic charged AdS soliton configuration, unlike the situation with electric potential, there is no scalar field condensation which causes the phase change.

Deriving the gravitational field equation and horizon entropy for arbitrary diffeomorphism-invariant gravity from spacetime solid

Motivated by the analogy between the spacetime and the solid with inhomogeneous elasticity modulus, we present an alternative method to obtain the field equation of any diffeomorphism-invariant gravity, by extremizing the constructed entropy function of the displacement vector field of spacetime solid. In general stationary spacetimes, we show that the Wald entropy of horizon arises from the on-shell entropy function of spacetime solid.

Generalized second law of thermodynamics in warped DGP braneworld

We investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics on the $(n-1)$-dimensional brane embedded in the $(n+1)$-dimensional bulk. We examine the evolution of the apparent horizon entropy extracted through relation between gravitational equation and the first law of thermodynamics together with the matter field entropy inside the apparent horizon. We find that the apparent horizon entropy extracted through connection between gravity and the first law of thermodynamics satisfies the generalized second law of thermodynamics. This result holds regardless of whether there is the intrinsic curvature term on the brane or a cosmological constant in the bulk. The observed satisfaction of the generalized second law provides further support on the thermodynamical interpretation of gravity based on the profound connection between gravity and thermodynamics.

Transient dynamics of molecular devices under step-like pulse bias

We report first principles investigation of time-dependent current of molecular devices under a step-like pulse. Our results show that although the switch-on time of the molecular device is comparable to the transit time, much longer time is needed to reach the steady state. In reaching the steady state the current is dominated by resonant states below Fermi level. The contribution of each resonant state to the current shows the damped oscillatory behavior with frequency equal to the bias of the step-like pulse and decay rate determined by the life time of the corresponding resonant state. We found that all the resonant states below Fermi level have to be included for accurate results. This indicates that going beyond wideband limit is essential for a quantitative analysis of transient dynamics of molecular devices.

The imprint of the interaction between dark sectors in large scale cosmic microwave background anisotropies

Dark energy interacting with dark matter is a promising model to solve the cosmic coincidence problem. We study the signature of such interaction on large scale cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature anisotropies. Based on the detail analysis in perturbation equations of dark energy and dark matter when they are in interaction, we find that the large scale CMB, especially the late Integrated Sachs Wolfe effect, is a useful tool to measure the coupling between dark sectors. We also discuss the possibility to detect the coupling by cross-correlating CMB maps with tracers of the large scale structure. We finally perform the global fitting to constrain the coupling by using the CMB power spectrum data together with other observational data. We find that in the $1σ$ range, the constrained coupling between dark sectors can solve the coincidence problem.

Generalized second law of thermodynamics in Gauss-Bonnet braneworld

We investigate the validity the generalized second law of thermodynamics in a general braneworld model with curvature correction terms on the brane and in the bulk, respectively. Employing the derived entropy expression associated with the apparent horizon, we examine the time evolution of the total entropy, including the derived entropy of the apparent horizon and the entropy of the matter fields inside the apparent horizon. We show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics is fulfilled on the 3-brane embedded in the 5D spacetime with curvature corrections.

On topological charged braneworld black holes

We study a class of topological black hole solutions in RSII braneworld scenario in the presence of a localized Maxwell field on the brane. Such a black hole can carry two types of charge, one arising from the extra dimension, the tidal charge, and the other one from a localized gauge field confined to the brane. We find that the localized charge on the brane modifies the bulk geometry and in particular the bulk Weyl tensor. The bulk geometry does not depend on different topologies of the horizons. We present the temperature and entropy expressions associated with the event horizon of the braneworld black hole and by using the first law of black hole thermodynamics we calculate the mass of the black hole.

Whittaker modules for a Lie algebra of Block type

In this paper, we study Whittaker modules for a Lie algebras of Block type. We define Whittaker modules and under some conditions, obtain a one to one correspondence between the set of isomorphic classes of Whittaker modules over this algebra and the set of ideals of a polynomial ring, parallel to a result from the classical setting and the case of the Virasoro algebra.

Effects of dark sectors' mutual interaction on the growth of structures

We present a general formalism to study the growth of dark matter perturbations when dark energy perturbations and interactions between dark sectors are present. We show that dynamical stability of the growth of structure depends on the type of coupling between dark sectors. By taking the appropriate coupling to ensure the stable growth of structure, we observe that the effect of the dark sectors' interaction overwhelms that of dark energy perturbation on the growth function of dark matter perturbation. Due to the influence of the interaction, the growth index can differ from the value without interaction by an amount within the observational sensibility, which provides a possibility to disclose the interaction between dark sectors through future observations on the growth of large structure.

A Field Theory Model for Dark Matter and Dark Energy in Interaction

We propose a field theory model for dark energy and dark matter in interaction. Comparing the classical solutions of the field equations with the observations of the CMB shift parameter, BAO, lookback time and Gold supernovae sample, we observe a possible interaction between dark sectors with energy decay from dark energy into dark matter. The observed interaction provides an alleviation to the coincidence problem.

Temperature effect on the power spectrum in inflation

We examine the effect of the thermal vacuum on the power spectrum of inflation by using the thermal field dynamics. We find that the thermal effect influences the CMB anisotropy at large length scale. After removing the divergence by using the holographic cutoff, we observe that the thermal vacuum explains well the observational CMB result at low multipoles. This shows that the temperature dependent factor should be considered in the study of power spectrum in inflation, especially at large length scale.

Quasinormal modes of charged squashed Kaluza-Klein black holes in the Gödel Universe

We study the quasinormal modes of scalar perturbation in the background of five-dimensional charged Kaluza-Klein black holes with squashed horizons immersed in the Gödel universe. Besides the influence due to the compactness of the extra dimension, we disclose the cosmological rotational effect in the wave dynamics. The wave behavior affected by the Gödel parameter provides an interesting insight into the Gödel universe.

Whittaker Modules for Graded Lie Algebras

In this paper, we study Whittaker modules for graded Lie algebras. We define Whittaker modules for a class of graded Lie algebras and obtain a bijective correspondence between the set of isomorphism classes of Whittaker modules and the set of ideals of a polynomial ring, parallel to a result from the classical setting and the case of the Virasoro algebra. As a consequence of this, we obtain a classification of simple Whittaker modules for such algebras. Also, we study some concrete algebras as examples.

Cold Atom Space Clock with Counter-Propagating Atoms

We discuss the feasibility to realize a space cold atom clock with counter-propagating cold atoms in microgravity. The design of the space clock is based on atomic beam clock with a Ramsey cavity, except a magneto-optical trap (MOT) is placed at each side. Cold atoms are launched from MOTs at both side of the clock simultaneously and move at counter-direction towards each other. The velocity of launched atoms is precisely controlled to the Ramsauer-Townsend resonance so that no additional collision frequency shift is taken place. Such a configuration can efficiently cancel the frequency shift led from cavity phase shift and increase the signal to noise.

Quasinormal modes of black holes absorbing dark energy

We study perturbations of black holes absorbing dark energy. Due to the accretion of dark energy, the black hole mass changes. We observe distinct perturbation behaviors for absorption of different forms of dark energy into the black holes. This provides the possibility of extracting information whether dark energy lies above or below the cosmological constant boundary $w=-1$. In particular, we find in the late time tail analysis that, differently from the other dark energy models, the accretion of phantom energy exhibits a growing mode in the perturbation tail. The instability behavior found in this work is consistent with the Big Rip scenario, in which all of the bound objects are torn apart with the presence of the phantom dark energy.

Stability of the curvature perturbation in dark sectors' mutual interacting models

We consider perturbations in a cosmological model with a small coupling between dark energy and dark matter. We prove that the stability of the curvature perturbation depends on the type of coupling between dark sectors. When the dark energy is of quintessence type, if the coupling is proportional to the dark matter energy density, it will drive the instability in the curvature perturbations; however if the coupling is proportional to the energy density of dark energy, there is room for the stability in the curvature perturbations. When the dark energy is of phantom type, the perturbations are always stable, no matter whether the coupling is proportional to the one or the other energy density.

Dynamics of interacting dark energy model in Einstein and Loop Quantum Cosmology

We investigate the background dynamics when dark energy is coupled to dark matter in the universe described by Einstein cosmology and Loop Quantum Cosmology. We introduce a new general form of dark sector coupling, which presents us a more complicated dynamical phase space. Differences in the phase space in obtaining the accelerated scaling attractor in Einstein cosmology and Loop Quantum Cosmology are disclosed.
