Spin Coulomb drag beyond the random phase approximation

We study the spin Coulomb drag in a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas beyond the random phase approximation (RPA). We find that the finite transverse width of the electron gas causes a significant reduction of the spin Coulomb drag. This reduction, however, is largely compensated by the enhancement coming from the inclusion of many-body local field effects beyond the RPA, thereby restoring good agreement with the experimental observations by C. P. Weber \textit{et al.}, Nature, \textbf{437}, 1330 (2005).

Leptogenesis in a seesaw model with Fritzsch type lepton mass matrices

We investigate how the baryon asymmetry of our universe via leptogenesis can be achieved within the framework of the seesaw model with Fritzsch type lepton mass matrices proposed by Fukugita $et. al$. We study the cases with CP-violating phases in charged lepton Yukawa matrix, however, with and without Dirac neutrino Yukawa phases. We consider both flavor independent and flavor dependent leptogenesis, and demonstrate how they lead to different amounts of lepton asymmetries in detail. In particular, it is shown that flavor dependent leptogenesis in this model can be worked out only when the CP phases in Dirac neutrino Yukawa matrix become zero at the GUT scale. In addition to the CP phases, for successful leptogenesis in the model it is required that the degeneracy of the heavy Majorana neutrino mass spectrum should be broken and we also show that the breakdown of the degeneracy can be radiatively induced.

Generalized analysis on $B\to K^* ρ$ within and beyond the Standard Model $-$ Can it help understand the $B \to K π$ puzzle?

We study $B \to K^* ρ$ modes that are analogues of the much studied $B\to K π$ modes with B decaying to two vector mesons instead of pseudoscalar mesons, using topological amplitudes in the quark diagram approach. We show how $B \to K^*ρ$ modes can be used to obtain many more observables than those for $B \to K π$ modes, even though the quark level subprocesses of both modes are exactly the same. All the theoretical parameters (except for the weak phase $γ$), such as the magnitudes of the topological amplitudes and their strong phases, can be determined in terms of the observables without any model-dependent assumption. We demonstrate how $B\to K^*ρ$ can also be used to verify if there exist any relations between theoretical parameters, such as the hierarchy relations between the topological amplitudes and possible relations between the strong phases. Conversely, if there exist reliable theoretical estimates of amplitudes and strong phases, the presence of New physics could be probed. We show that if the tree and color-supressed tree are related to the electroweak penguins and color-supressed electroweak penguins, it is not only possible to verify the validity of such relations but also to have a clean measurement of New Physics parameters. We also present a numerical study to examine which of the observables are more sensitive to New Physics.

Correlation between lepton flavor violation and B_{(d,s)} - \bar{B}_{(d,s)} mixing in SUSY GUT

Motivated by the recent measurements of the B_s-\bar{B}_s mass difference from the D0 and CDF collaborations, we probe new physics effects in the B_q-\bar{B}_q mixing within the context of the supersymmetric grand unified model (SUSY GUT). We find that new physics effects in B_{s(d)}-\bar{B}_{s(d)} mixing lead to the correlated information in the branching fractions of the lepton flavor violating decays, which may serve as a test of the SUSY GUT. We also discuss the implication of such new physics effects on the quark-lepton complementarity in the neutrino mixings.

Constraint of B_{d,s}-bar{B}_{d,s} mixing on warped extra-dimension model

Recent CDF measurement of the Bs-Bs oscillation frequency, at the Tevatron imposes significant constraint on various models for new physics. A warped extra-dimension model with custodial isospin symmetry accommodates the Bd-Bd mixing at tree level mainly through the Kaluza-Klein gluons. This is due to the misalignment between the bulk gauge eigenstates and the localized Yukawa eigenstates of the bulk fermions. We adopt the universal 5D Yukawa coupling model where all Yukawa couplings are of order one. The SM fermion mass spectra and mixings are controlled by the bulk Dirac mass parameters. With two versions of the hadronic parameter values, we investigate the implication of the observed BB mixings on this model. The CP-violating effects on the Bd system is shown to provide very strong constraint: The first Kaluza-Klein mass of a gluon has its lower bound about 3.7 TeV with 1 sigma uncertainty.

$μ-τ$ Symmetry and Radiatively Generated Leptogenesis

We consider a $μ-τ$ symmetry in neutrino sectors realized at GUT scale in the context of a seesaw model. In our scenario, the exact $μ-τ$ symmetry realized in the basis where the charged lepton and heavy Majorana neutrino mass matrices are diagonal leads to vanishing lepton asymmetries. We find that, in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the seesaw model with large $\tanβ$, the renormalization group (RG) evolution from GUT scale to seesaw scale can induce a successful leptogenesis even without introducing any symmetry breaking terms by hand, whereas such RG effects lead to tiny deviations of $θ_{23}$ and $θ_{13}$ from $π/4$ and zero, respectively. It is shown that the right amount of the baryon asymmetry $η_B$ can be achieved via so-called resonant leptogenesis, which can be realized at rather low seesaw scale with large $\tanβ$ in our scenario so that the well-known gravitino problem is safely avoided.

Extended double seesaw model for neutrino mass spectrum and low scale leptogenesis

We consider a variant of seesaw mechanism by introducing extra singlet neutrinos, with which we show how the low scale leptogenesis is realized without imposing the tiny mass splitting between two heavy Majorana neutrinos required in the resonant leptogenesis. Thus, we can avoid the so-called gravitino problem when our scenario is supersymmetrized. We show that an introduction of the new singlet fermion leads to a new contribution which can enhance the lepton asymmetry for certain range of parameter space. We also examine how both the light neutrino mass spectrum and relatively light sterile neutrinos of order a few 100 MeV can be achieved without being in conflict with the constraints on the mixing between the active and sterile neutrinos.

Exchange and correlation effects on the plasmon dispersions and the Coulomb drag in low-density electron bilayers

We investigate the effect of exchange and correlation (xc) on the plasmon spectrum and the Coulomb drag between spatially separated low-density two-dimensional electron layers. We adopt a new approach, which employs dynamic xc kernels in the calculation of the bi-layer plasmon spectra and of the plasmon-mediated drag, and static many-body local field factors in the calculation of the particle-hole contribution to the drag. The spectrum of bi-layer plasmons and the drag resistivity are calculated in a broad range of temperatures taking into account both intra- and inter-layer correlation effects. We observe that both plasmon modes are strongly affected by xc corrections. After the inclusion of the complex dynamic xc kernels, a decrease of the electron density induces shifts of the plasmon branches in opposite directions. And this is in stark contrast to the tendency obtained within the RPA that both optical and acoustical plasmons move away from the boundary of the particle-hole continuum with a decrease in the electron density. We find that the introduction of xc corrections results in a significant enhancement of the transresistivity and qualitative changes in its temperature dependence. In particular, the large high-temperature plasmon peak that is present in the random phase approximation is found to disappear when the xc corrections are included. Our numerical results at low temperatures are in good agreement with the results of recent experiments by M. Kellogg {\it et al.}, Solid State Commun. \textbf{123}, 515 (2002).

Electroweak Penguin and Leptophobic $Z^\prime$ model

We consider the leptophobic $Z^\prime$ model which can appear naturally in the flipped SU(5) or string-inspired $E_6$ models. This model can be constrained by measurements of the $B\to M ν\barν$ decays and $Δm_s$. We find that although the latter give much stronger constraints on the coupling than the former, they are complementary to each other.

Associated production of a single heavy T-quark in the littlest and simplest little Higgs models

The colored SU(2)-singlet heavy T-quark is one of the most crucial ingredients in little Higgs models, which is introduced to cancel the largest contribution of the SM top quark to the Higgs boson mass at one-loop level. In two representative little Higgs models, the littlest Higgs model and the SU(3) simplest Higgs model, we comprehensively study the single heavy T-quark production at Large Hadron Collider (LHC). After presenting the possibility of relatively light (~500 GeV) T-quark in the simplest little Higgs model, we consider all the relevant processes, the 2->2 process of qb->q'T, the 2->3 process of qg->q'Tb, the s-channel process of q bar(q)'->T bar{b}, and the gluon fusion process of gg->T bar{t}. We found that the 2->3 process can be quite important, as its cross section is about 30% of the 2->2 one and it is dominant in high p_T distributions. The s-channel and the gluon fusion processes also show distinctive features in spite of their suppressed cross sections. In the gluon fusion process of the simplest little Higgs model, for example, the pseudo-scalar contribution is rather dominant over the Higgs contribution for relatively light M_T.

B_s^0 - \bar{B}_s^0 Mixing in Leptophobic Z^\prime Model

Leptophobic Z^\prime gauge boson appears naturally in many grand unified theories, such as flipped SU(5) or string-inspired E_6 models. This elusive particle easily escapes the direct/indirect detections because it does not couple to charged leptons. However, it can generate flavor changing neutral current at tree level. In this letter, we show that the recently measured mass difference, Δm_s, in the B_s^0 -\bar{B}_s^0 system improves the previous bound of flavor changing effective coupling by about one order of magnitude, i.e irrespective of its phase, |U_{sb}^{Z^\prime}| \leq 0.036 for M_{Z^\prime} = 700 GeV, and |U_{sb}^{Z^\prime}| \leq 0.051 for M_{Z^\prime} = 1 TeV.

The intrinsic and oscillated astrophysical neutrino flavor ratios

The pp interactions taking place in the cosmos around us are a source of the astrophysical neutrinos of all the three flavors. In these interactions, the electron and the muon neutrinos mainly come from the production and the decay of the π^{\pm} mesons, whereas the tau neutrinos mainly come from the production and the decay of the D^{\pm}_{S} mesons. We estimate the three intrinsic neutrino flavor ratios for 1 GeV < E < 10^{12} GeV in the pp interactions and found them to be 1 : 2 : 3\times 10^{-5}. We study the effects of neutrino oscillations on these intrinsic ratios. We point out that the three ratios become 1 : 1 : 1 if L(pc)/E(GeV)> 10^{-10} in the presence of neutrino oscillations, where L is the distance to the astrophysical neutrino source in units of parsecs.

Systematic Investigation of Possibilities for New Physics Effects in b --> s Penguin Processes

Although recent experimental results in b-->s penguin process seem to be roughly consistent with the standard model predictions, there may be still large possibilities of new physics hiding in this processes. Therefore, here we investigate systematically the potential new physics effects that may appear in time-dependent CP asymmetries of B --> phi K^0, B--> eta^\prime K^0 and B--> K^0 π^0 decay modes, by classifying the cases for the values of the mixing-induced indirect CP asymmetries, S_{phi K^0}, S_{eta^\prime K^0}, S_{K^0 pi^0} which are compared to S_{J/psi K^0}. We also show that several B_s decay modes may help to resolve the ambiguities in such an analysis. Through combining analysis with the time-dependent CP asymmetries of B_s decay modes such as B_s --> phi eta^\prime, B_s--> eta^\prime pi^0 and B_s --> K^0 bar{K}^0, we can determine where the new CP phases precisely come from.

Phased Breaking of mu-tau symmetry and Leptogenesis

Non-vanishing U_{e3} has been theoretically related to a certain flavor symmetry breaking in the neutrino sector. We propose a scenario to break the mu-tau symmetry so as to accommodate the non-vanishing U_{e3}. Our scenario is constructed in the context of a seesaw model, and the mu-tau symmetry breaking is achieved by introducing a CP phase in the Dirac Yukawa matrix. We also show how the deviation of theta_{23} from the maximal mixing and non-vanishing U_{e3} depend on the CP phase. Neutrino mixings and the neutrino mass-squared differences are discussed, and the amplitude in neutrinoless double beta decay m_{ee} are also predicted. We found that a tiny breaking of the mu-tau symmetry due to mass splitting between two degenerate heavy Majorana neutrinos on top of the Dirac CP phase can lead to successful leptogenesis. We examine how leptogenesis can be related with low energy neutrino measurement, and show that our predictions for U_{e3} and m_{ee} can be constrained by the current observation of baryon asymmetry.

Generalized Study with Isospin-phased Topological Approach on the $B \to Kπ$ Puzzle

We study the decay processes $B \to K π$ by using generalized decay amplitudes with both the final state re-scattering strong phases and the topological quark diagrammatic strong phases included together as part of fitting parameters. Using a generalized approach, so called ``isospin phased topological approach'', for all the currently available data of $B \to K π$ decays, we determine the allowed values of the relevant theoretical parameters, corresponding to the electroweak penguin, the color-suppressed tree contribution, strong phase differences, etc. In order to find the most likely values of the parameters in a statistically reliable way, we use the $χ^2$ minimization technique. We find that the long distance final state re-scattering, when taken at proper value, can provide a reasonable fit to the standard model with the perturbative QCD estimated values, and therefore, it is premature to conclude that it requires new physics to explain the CP violating $B \to Kπ$ data.

Exclusive B-> M ν\barν (M= π, K, ρ, K^*) Decays and Leptophobic Z^\prime Model

We consider the exclusive flavor changing neutral current processes B -> M ν\barν (M= π, K, ρ, K^*) in the leptophobic Z^\prime model, in which the charged leptons do not couple to the extra Z^\prime boson. We find that these exclusive modes are very effective to constrain the leptophobic Z^\prime model. In the leptophobic Z^\prime model, additional right-handed neutrinos are introduced and they can contribute to the missing energy signal in B -> M + E_missing decays. Through the explicit calculations, we obtain quite stringent bounds on the model parameters, |U_{sb}^{Z^\prime}| \leq 0.29 and |U_{db}^{Z^\prime}| \leq 0.61, from the already existing experimental data. We also briefly discuss an interesting subject of massive right-handed neutrinos, which might be connected with the dark matter problem.

Probing CP Violating Two Higgs Doublet Model through Interplay between LHC and ILC

We study the neutral Higgs boson production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the future $e^- e^+$ linear collider (ILC) in the two Higgs doublet model with CP violation. The CP-even and CP-odd scalars are mixed in this model, which affects the production processes of neutral Higgs boson. We examine the correlation of the Higgs production at LHC and ILC and provide a strategy to distinguish the model from the CP conserving model and to determine the parameters of the Higgs sector.

Average Kinetic Energy of Heavy Quark ($μ_π^2$) inside Heavy Meson of $0^-$ State by Bethe-Salpeter Method

The average kinetic energy of the heavy quark inside $B$ or $D$ meson is computed by means of the instantaneous Bethe-Salpeter method. We first solve the relativistic Salpeter equation and obtain the relativistic wave function and mass of $0^{-}$ state, then we use the relativistic wave function to calculate the average kinetic energy of the heavy quark inside heavy meson of $0^{-}$ state. We find that the relativistic corrections to the average kinetic energy of the heavy quark inside $B$ or $D$ meson are quite large and cannot be ignored. We estimate $μ^2_π~ (= - λ_1)~ \approx~ 0.35~ (B^0,B^\pm)$, $~0.28~(D^0,D^\pm)$, $~ 0.43~(B_s)$, $~0.34~(D_s)$, $~0.96~(B_c)$ and $0.62~(η_c)$ GeV$^2$.
