Correlations between quark mass and flavor mixing hierarchies

We calculate the quark flavor mixing matrix $V$ based on the Hermitian quark mass matrices $M^{}_{\rm u}$ and $M^{}_{\rm d}$ with vanishing $(1,1)$, $(1,3)$ and $(3,1)$ entries. The popular leading-order prediction $|V^{}_{ub}/V^{}_{cb}| \simeq \sqrt{m^{}_u/m^{}_c}$ is significantly modified, and the result agrees with the current experimental value. We find that behind the strong {\it mass} hierarchy of up- or down-type quarks is the weak {\it texture} hierarchy of $M^{}_{\rm u}$ or $M^{}_{\rm d}$ characterized by an approximate seesaw-like relation among its $(2,2)$, $(2,3)$ and $(3,3)$ elements.

Infrared full-Stokes polarimetry by parametric up-conversion

Polarimetry aims to measure polarization information of an optical field, providing a new freedom to enhance performance of optical metrology. Furthermore, the polarimetry in infrared (IR) range holds a promise for a wide range of academic and industrial applications because the IR light relates to unique spectral signatures of various complex chemicals. However, a primary challenge in IR applications remains lacking efficient detectors. Motivated by such a constraint, we present in this paper a nonlinear up-conversion full-Stokes IR Retrieval Polarimetry (IRP) that is able to decipher the IR polarization using a well-commercial and high-performance visible light detector. Assisted by a nonlinear sum-frequency generation (SFG) process in a lithium niobate thin film, the polarization states of the IR light are encoded into the visible SF wave. Based on a Stokes-Mueller formalism developed here, the IR polarization is successfully retrieved from SF light with high precision, and polarization imaging over the targets with either uniform or non-uniform polarization distributions are demonstrated. Our results form a fresh perspective for the design of novel advanced up-conversion polarimeter for a wide range of IR metrological applications.

Improved $(g-2)_μ$ measurement and singlino dark matter in $μ$-term extended $\mathbb{Z}_3$-NMSSM

Very recently, a Fermilab report of muon $g-2$ showed a $4.2σ$ discrepancy between it and the standard model (SM) prediction. Motivated by this inspiring result and the increasing tension in supersymmetric interpretation of the anomalous magnetic moment, it is argued that in the general next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (GNMSSM), a singlino-dominated neutralino can act as a feasible dark matter (DM) candidate in explaining the discrepancy naturally. In this case, the singlino-dominated DM and singlet-dominated Higgs bosons can form a secluded DM sector with $\tildeχ_1^0\tildeχ_1^0 \to h_s A_s$ responsible for the measured DM relic abundance. when $m_{\tildeχ_1^0} \gtrsim 150~{\rm GeV}$ and the Yukawa coupling $κ$ is around $0.2$. This sector communicates with the SM sector by weak singlet-doublet Higgs mixing, so the scatterings of the singlino-dominated DM with nucleons are suppressed. Furthermore, due to the singlet nature of the DM and the complex mass hierarchy, sparticle decay chains in the GNMSSM are lengthened in comparison with the prediction of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. These characteristics lead to sparticle detection at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) being rather tricky. This study surveys a specific scenario of the GNMSSM, which extends the $\mathbb{Z}_3$-NMSSM by adding an explicit $μ$-term, to reveal the features. It indicates that the theory can readily explain the discrepancy of the muon anomalous magnetic moment without conflicting with the experimental results in DM and Higgs physics, and the LHC searches for sparticles.

Juvenile state hypothesis: What we can learn from lottery ticket hypothesis researches?

The proposition of lottery ticket hypothesis revealed the relationship between network structure and initialization parameters and the learning potential of neural networks. The original lottery ticket hypothesis performs pruning and weight resetting after training convergence, exposing it to the problem of forgotten learning knowledge and potential high cost of training. Therefore, we propose a strategy that combines the idea of neural network structure search with a pruning algorithm to alleviate this problem. This algorithm searches and extends the network structure on existing winning ticket sub-network to producing new winning ticket recursively. This allows the training and pruning process to continue without compromising performance. A new winning ticket sub-network with deeper network structure, better generalization ability and better test performance can be obtained in this recursive manner. This method can solve: the difficulty of training or performance degradation of the sub-networks after pruning, the forgetting of the weights of the original lottery ticket hypothesis and the difficulty of generating winning ticket sub-network when the final network structure is not given. We validate this strategy on the MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets. And after relating it to similar biological phenomena and relevant lottery ticket hypothesis studies in recent years, we will further propose a new hypothesis to discuss which factors that can keep a network juvenile, i.e., those possible factors that influence the learning potential or generalization performance of a neural network during training.

Electron and Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moments in the Inverse Seesaw Extended NMSSM

The recently improved observation of the fine structure constant has led to a negative $2.4σ$ anomaly of electron $g-2$. Combined with the long-existing positive $4.2σ$ discrepancy of the muon anomalous magnetic moment, it is interesting and difficult to explain these two anomalies with a consistent model without introducing flavor violations. We show that they can be simultaneously explained in the inverse seesaw extended next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (ISS-NMSSM) by the Higgsino--sneutrino contributions to $(g-2)_e$ and $(g-2)_μ$. The spectrum features prefer light $μ$, which can predict $m_Z$ naturally, and it is not difficult to obtain a $τ$-type sneutrino dark matter candidate that is compatible with the observed dark matter relic density and the bounds from dark matter direct detection experiments. Due to the compressed spectra and the undetectable decay mode of selectrons, they can evade the current Large Hadron Collider (LHC) constraints.

M6-T: Exploring Sparse Expert Models and Beyond

Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models can achieve promising results with outrageous large amount of parameters but constant computation cost, and thus it has become a trend in model scaling. Still it is a mystery how MoE layers bring quality gains by leveraging the parameters with sparse activation. In this work, we investigate several key factors in sparse expert models. We observe that load imbalance may not be a significant problem affecting model quality, contrary to the perspectives of recent studies, while the number of sparsely activated experts $k$ and expert capacity $C$ in top-$k$ routing can significantly make a difference in this context. Furthermore, we take a step forward to propose a simple method called expert prototyping that splits experts into different prototypes and applies $k$ top-$1$ routing. This strategy improves the model quality but maintains constant computational costs, and our further exploration on extremely large-scale models reflects that it is more effective in training larger models. We push the model scale to over $1$ trillion parameters and implement it on solely $480$ NVIDIA V100-32GB GPUs, in comparison with the recent SOTAs on $2048$ TPU cores. The proposed giant model achieves substantial speedup in convergence over the same-size baseline.

Design and Implementation of 5G eHealth Systems, Technologies, Use Cases and Future Challenges

Fifth generation (5G) aims to connect massive devices with even higher reliability, lower latency and even faster transmission speed, which are vital for implementing the e-health systems. However, the current efforts on 5G e-health systems are still not enough to accomplish its full blueprint. In this article, we first discuss the related technologies from physical layer, upper layer and cross layer perspectives on designing the 5G e-health systems. We afterwards elaborate two use cases according to our implementations, i.e., 5G e-health systems for remote health and 5G e-health systems for Covid-19 pandemic containment. We finally envision the future research trends and challenges of 5G e-health systems.

Radiative Decays of Charged Leptons in the Seesaw Effective Field Theory with One-loop Matching

The canonical type-I seesaw model with three heavy Majorana neutrinos is one of the most natural extensions of the standard model (SM) to accommodate tiny Majorana masses of three ordinary neutrinos. At low-energy scales, Majorana neutrino masses and unitarity violation of lepton flavor mixing have been extensively discussed in the literature, which are respectively generated by the unique dimension-five Weinberg operator and one dimension-six operator in the seesaw effective field theory (SEFT) with the tree-level matching. In this work, we clarify that a self-consistent calculation of radiative decays of charged leptons $β^- \to α^- + γ$ requires the SEFT with one-loop matching, where new six-dimensional operators emerge and make important contributions. For the first time, the Wilson coefficients of all the relevant six-dimensional operators are computed by carrying out the one-loop matching between the effective theory and full seesaw model, and applied to calculate the total rates of radiative decays of charged leptons.

Radiative neutrino masses, lepton flavor mixing and muon $g-2$ in a leptoquark model

We propose a leptoquark model with two scalar leptoquarks $S^{}_1 \left( \bar{3},1,\frac{1}{3} \right)$ and $\widetilde{R}^{}_2 \left(3,2,\frac{1}{6} \right)$ to give a combined explanation of neutrino masses, lepton flavor mixing and the anomaly of muon $g-2$, satisfying the constraints from the radiative decays of charged leptons. The neutrino masses are generated via one-loop corrections resulting from a mixing between $S^{}_1$ and $\widetilde{R}^{}_2$. With a set of specific textures for the leptoquark Yukawa coupling matrices, the neutrino mass matrix possesses an approximate $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry with $\left( M^{}_ν\right)^{}_{ee} = 0$ only in favor of the normal neutrino mass ordering. We show that this model can successfully explain the anomaly of muon $g-2$ and current experimental neutrino oscillation data under the constraints from the radiative decays of charged leptons.

Energy Efficiency Optimization for Multi-cell Massive MIMO: Centralized and Distributed Power Allocation Algorithms

This paper investigates the energy efficiency (EE) optimization in downlink multi-cell massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). In our research, the statistical channel state information (CSI) is exploited to reduce the signaling overhead. To maximize the minimum EE among the neighbouring cells, we design the transmit covariance matrices for each base station (BS). Specifically, optimization schemes for this max-min EE problem are developed, in the centralized and distributed ways, respectively. To obtain the transmit covariance matrices, we first find out the closed-form optimal transmit eigenmatrices for the BS in each cell, and convert the original transmit covariance matrices designing problem into a power allocation one. Then, to lower the computational complexity, we utilize an asymptotic approximation expression for the problem objective. Moreover, for the power allocation design, we adopt the minorization maximization method to address the non-convexity of the ergodic rate, and use Dinkelbach's transform to convert the max-min fractional problem into a series of convex optimization subproblems. To tackle the transformed subproblems, we propose a centralized iterative water-filling scheme. For reducing the backhaul burden, we further develop a distributed algorithm for the power allocation problem, which requires limited inter-cell information sharing. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithms are demonstrated by extensive numerical results.

Singlino-dominated dark matter in $Z_3$-NMSSM

Singlino-dominated dark matter properties are investigated in the $Z_3$ Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, producing superweak interactions with nucleons involved in dark matter direct detection experiments. Approximate analytical formulas describing the dark matter abundance and cross section in the scattering with nucleons are used to illustrate a dependence on theoretical parameters in neutralino and Higgs sectors. It is shown that the measured abundance requires a sizable singlet--doublet Higgs coupling parameter $λ$, while the experimental detection results prefer a small $λ$. The parameter space is then surveyed using a nest sampling technique guided by a likelihood function containing various observables in dark matter, Higgs, and B physics, such as the abundance and the scattering cross section. It is demonstrated that dark matter can achieve the correct abundance through $\tildeχ_1^0 \tildeχ_1^0 \to t \bar{t}$ or co-annihilation with higgsinos. The former process provides significantly larger Bayesian evidence than the latter, but this will be examined by the near-future PandaX-4T experiment. If the experiment shows no signs of dark matter, it will become highly disfavored. Furthermore, four cases are summarized to suppress dark matter scattering with nucleons, namely, a small $λ$ and three kinds of cancellation between different contributions.

Graph Intention Network for Click-through Rate Prediction in Sponsored Search

Estimating click-through rate (CTR) accurately has an essential impact on improving user experience and revenue in sponsored search. For CTR prediction model, it is necessary to make out user real-time search intention. Most of the current work is to mine their intentions based on user real-time behaviors. However, it is difficult to capture the intention when user behaviors are sparse, causing the behavior sparsity problem. Moreover, it is difficult for user to jump out of their specific historical behaviors for possible interest exploration, namely weak generalization problem. We propose a new approach Graph Intention Network (GIN) based on co-occurrence commodity graph to mine user intention. By adopting multi-layered graph diffusion, GIN enriches user behaviors to solve the behavior sparsity problem. By introducing co-occurrence relationship of commodities to explore the potential preferences, the weak generalization problem is also alleviated. To the best of our knowledge, the GIN method is the first to introduce graph learning for user intention mining in CTR prediction and propose end-to-end joint training of graph learning and CTR prediction tasks in sponsored search. At present, GIN has achieved excellent offline results on the real-world data of the e-commerce platform outperforming existing deep learning models, and has been running stable tests online and achieved significant CTR improvements.

SCMA Codebook Design Based on Uniquely Decomposable Constellation Groups

Sparse code multiple access (SCMA), which helps improve spectrum efficiency (SE) and enhance connectivity, has been proposed as a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme for 5G systems. In SCMA, codebook design determines system overload ratio and detection performance at a receiver. In this paper, an SCMA codebook design approach is proposed based on uniquely decomposable constellation group (UDCG). We show that there are $N+1 (N \geq 1)$ constellations in the proposed UDCG, each of which has $M (M \geq 2)$ constellation points. These constellations are allocated to users sharing the same resource. Combining the constellations allocated on multiple resources of each user, we can obtain UDCG-based codebook sets. Bit error ratio (BER) performance will be discussed in terms of coding gain maximization with superimposed constellations and UDCG-based codebooks. Simulation results demonstrate that the superimposed constellation of each resource has large minimum Euclidean distance (MED) and meets uniquely decodable constraint. Thus, BER performance of the proposed codebook design approach outperforms that of the existing codebook design schemes in both uncoded and coded SCMA systems, especially for large-size codebooks.

Tunable ferroelectricity in hBN intercalated twisted double-layer graphene

Van der Waals (vdW) assembly of two-dimensional materials has been long recognized as a powerful tool to create unique systems with properties that cannot be found in natural compounds. However, among the variety of vdW heterostructures and their various properties, only a few have revealed metallic and ferroelectric behaviour signatures. Here we show ferroelectric semimetal made of double-gated double-layer graphene separated by an atomically thin crystal of hexagonal boron nitride, which demonstrating high room temperature mobility of the order of 10 m$^2$V$^{-1}$s$^{-1}$ and exhibits robust ambipolar switching in response to the external electric field. The observed hysteresis is tunable, reversible and persists above room temperature. Our fabrication method expands the family of ferroelectric vdW compounds and offers a route for developing novel phase-changing devices.

Ab initio calculations of reactor antineutrino fluxes with exact lepton wave functions

New \textit{ab initio} calculations of the isotopic reactor antineutrino fluxes are provided with exact numerical calculations of the lepton wave functions, assuming all the decay branches are allowed GT transitions. We illustrate that the analytical Fermi function and finite size effect each could have the largest spectral deviation of $\mathcal{O}(10\%)$, whereas the effect of their combination could result in spectral deviations at the level of 5%-10%. Meanwhile, we also find that several forms of the extended charge distributions have negligible effects on the spectral variation. Using the state-of-the-art nuclear databases, compared to usual \textit{ab initio} calculations using the analytical single beta decay spectrum, our new calculation shows sizable but opposite spectral deviations at the level of 2%-4% for the cumulative antineutrino and electron energy spectra which may partially contribute to the observed spectral excess in the high energy antineutrino range. Finally we observe that the {bias} of analytical beta decay spectrum approximation is rather universal for all the four fissionable isotopes.

Integral solutions to the one-loop renormalization-group equations for lepton flavor mixing parameters and the Jarlskog invariant

Working in the basis where the charged-lepton Yukawa matrix is diagonal and making the $τ$-dominance approximations, we analytically derive integral solutions to the one-loop renormalization-group equations (RGEs) for neutrino masses, flavor mixing angles, CP-violating phases and the Jarlskog invariant under the standard parametrization of the PMNS matrix in the standard model or its minimal supersymmetric extension for both Majorana and Dirac neutrinos. With these integral solutions, we carry out numerical calculations to investigate the RGE running of lepton flavor mixing parameters and the Jarlskog invariant, and also compare these integral solutions with the exact results obtained by numerically solving the one-loop RGEs. It is shown that these integral solutions coincide with the exact results and can well describe the evolution of lepton flavor mixing parameters and the Jarlskog invariant in most cases. Some important features of our integral solutions and the evolution behaviors of relevant flavor parameters are also discussed in detail both analytically and numerically.

Radiative decays of charged leptons as constraints of unitarity polygons for active-sterile neutrino mixing and CP violation

We calculate the rates of radiative $β^- \to α^- + γ$ decays for $(α, β) = (e, μ)$, $(e, τ)$ and $(μ, τ)$ by taking the {\it unitary} gauge in the $(3+n)$ active-sterile neutrino mixing scheme, and make it clear that constraints on the unitarity of the $3\times 3$ Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrix $U$ extracted from $β^- \to α^- + γ$ decays in the {\it minimal unitarity violation} scheme differ from those obtained in the canonical seesaw mechanism with $n$ heavy Majorana neutrinos by a factor $5/3$. In such a natural seesaw case we show that the rates of $β^- \to α^- + γ$ can be used to cleanly and strongly constrain the effective apex of a unitarity polygon, and compare its geometry with the geometry of its three sub-triangles formed by two vectors $U^{}_{αi} U^*_{βi}$ and $U^{}_{αj} U^*_{βj}$ (for $i \neq j$) in the complex plane. We find that the areas of such sub-triangles can be described in terms of the Jarlskog-like invariants of CP violation ${\cal J}^{ij}_{αβ}$, and their small differences signify slight unitarity violation of the PMNS matrix $U$.

The Layer-inserting Growth of Antiferromagnetic Topological Insulator MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ Based on Symmetry and Its X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

The antiferromagnetic topological insulator has attracted lots of attention recently, as its intrinsic magnetism and topological property makes it a potential material to realize the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE) at relative high temperature. Until now, only MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ is predicted and grown successfully. The other MB$_2$T$_4$-family materials predicted (MB$_2$T$_4$:M=transition-metal or rare-earth element, B=Bi or Sb, T=Te, Se, or S) with not only antiferromagnetic topological property but also rich and exotic topological quantum states and dynamically stable (or metastable) structure have not been realized on experiment completely. Here, MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ single crystals have been grown successfully and tested. It shows typical antiferromagnetic character, with Neel temperature of 24.5K and a spin-flop transition at H$\thickapprox$35000 Oe, 1.8K. After obtaining MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ single crystals, we have tried to synthesize the other members of MB$_2$T$_4$-family materials, but things are not going so well. Then it inspires us to discuss the growth mechanism of MnBi$_2$Te$_4$. The growth mode may be the layer-inserting growth mode based on symmetry, which is supported by our X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurement. The XPS measurement combing with the $Ar^+$ ion sputtering is done to investigate the chemical state of MnBi$_2$Te$_4$. Binding energies (BE) of the MnBi$_2$Te$_4$-related contributions to Mn2p and Te3d spectra agree well with those of inserting material $α$-MnTe. Rising intensity of the Mn2p satellite for divalent Mn (bound to chalcogen) with atomic number of ligand (from MnO to MnBi$_2$Te$_4$) has been observed, thus suggesting classification of MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ as the charge-transfer compound. Understanding the growth mode of MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ can help us to grow the other members of MB$_2$T$_4$-family materials.
