Typical and Admissible ranks over fields

Let $X(\RR)$ be a geometrically connected variety defined over $\RR$ and such that the set of all its (also complex) points $X(\CC)$ is non-degenerate. We introduce the notion of \emph{admissible rank} of a point $P$ with respect to $X$ to be the minimal cardinality of a set of points of $X(\CC)$ such that $P\in \langle S \rangle$ that is stable under conjugation. Any set evincing the admissible rank can be equipped with a \emph{label} keeping track of the number of its complex and real points. We show that in the case of generic identifiability there is an open dense euclidean subset of points with certain admissible rank for any possible label. Moreover we show that if $X$ is a rational normal curve than there always exists a label for the generic element. We present two examples in which either the label doesn't exists or the admissible rank is strictly bigger than the usual complex rank.

Curves in Segre threefolds

We study locally Cohen-Macaulay curves of low degree in the Segre threefold with Picard number three and investigate the irreducible and connected components respectively of the Hilbert scheme of them. We also discuss the irreducibility of some moduli spaces of purely one-dimensional stable sheaves and apply the similar argument to the Segre threefold with Picard number two.

Higher Hamming weights for locally recoverable codes on algebraic curves

We study the locally recoverable codes on algebraic curves. In the first part of this article, we provide a bound of generalized Hamming weight of these codes. Whereas in the second part, we propose a new family of algebraic geometric LRC codes, that are LRC codes from Norm-Trace curve. Finally, using some properties of Hermitian codes, we improve the bounds of distance proposed in [1] for some Hermitian LRC codes. [1] A. Barg, I. Tamo, and S. Vlladut. Locally recoverable codes on algebraic curves. arXiv preprint arXiv:1501.04904, 2015.

On Segre's bound for fat points in $\mathbb{P}^n$

For a scheme of fat points $Z$ defined by the saturated ideal $\mathcal{I}_Z$, the regularity index computes the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the Cohen-Macaulay ring $R/\mathcal{I}_Z.$ For points in " general position" we improve the bound for the regularity index computed by Segre for $\mathbb {P}^2$ and generalised by Catalisano, Trung and Valla for $\mathbb {P}^n$. Moreover, we prove that the generalised Segre's bound conjectured by Fatabbi and Lorenzini holds for $n+3$ arbitrary points in $\mathbb {P}^n$. We propose a modification of Segre's conjecture for arbitrary points and we discuss some evidences.

On large theta-characteristics with prescribed vanishing

Let $C$ be a smooth projective curve of genus $g\geq 2$. Fix an integer $r\geq 0$, and let $\underline{k}=(k_1,\ldots,k_n)$ be a sequence of positive integers with $k_1+\ldots+k_n=g-1$. We study $n$-pointed curves $(C,p_1,\ldots,p_n)$ such that the line bundle $L:=O_C\left(\sum_{i=1}^n k_i p_i\right)$ is a theta-characteristic such that $h^0\left(C,L\right)$ is at least $r+1$ and it has the same parity as $r+1$. We prove that they describe a sublocus $\mathcal{G}^r_g(\underline{k})$ of $\mathcal{M}_{g,n}$ having codimension at most $g-1+\frac{r(r-1)}{2}$. Moreover, for any $r\geq 0$, $\underline{k}$ as above, and $g$ greater than an explicit integer $g(r)$ depending on $r$, we present irreducible components of $\mathcal{G}^r_g(\underline{k})$ attaining the maximal codimension in $\mathcal{M}_{g,n}$, so that the bound turns out to be sharp.

Double lines on quadric hypersurfaces

We study double line structures in projective spaces and quadric hypersurfaces, and investigate the geometry of irreducible components of Hilbert scheme of curves and moduli of stable sheaves of pure dimension 1 on a smooth quadric threefold.

Curvilinear schemes and maximum rank of forms

We define the \emph{curvilinear rank} of a degree $d$ form $P$ in $n+1$ variables as the minimum length of a curvilinear scheme, contained in the $d$-th Veronese embedding of $\mathbb{P}^n$, whose span contains the projective class of $P$. Then, we give a bound for rank of any homogenous polynomial, in dependance on its curvilinear rank.

Globally generated vector bundles on complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds

We investigate the globally generated vector bundles on complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds with the first Chern class at most 2. We classify all the globally generated vector bundles of an arbitrary rank on quintic in $\mathbb{P}^4$ and investigate the globally generated vector bundles of rank 2 on complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds of codimension 2.

Families of nodal curves in P^r with the expected number of moduli

Let V^{r}_{d,g, δ} be the Hilbert scheme of nodal curves in P^r of degree d and arithmetic genus g with δnodes. Under suitable numerical assumptions on d and g, for every 0 \le δ\le g we construct an irreducible component of V^{r}_{d,g, δ} having the expected number of moduli.

Globally generated vector bundles on a smooth quadric surface

We give the classification of globally generated vector bundles of rank $2$ on a smooth quadric surface with $c_1\le (2,2)$ in terms of the indices of the bundles, and extend the result to arbitrary higher rank case. We also investigate their indecomposability and give the sufficient and necessary condition on numeric data of vector bundles for indecomposability.

The locus of points of the Hilbert scheme with bounded regularity

In this paper we consider the Hilbert scheme $Hilb_{p(t)}^n$ parameterizing subschemes of $P^n$ with Hilbert polynomial $p(t)$, and we investigate its locus containing points corresponding to schemes with regularity lower than or equal to a fixed integer $r'$. This locus is an open subscheme of $Hilb_{p(t)}^n$ and, for every $s\geq r'$, we describe it as a locally closed subscheme of the Grasmannian $Gr_{p(s)}^{N(s)}$ given by a set of equations of degree $\leq \mathrm{deg}(p(t))+2$ and linear inequalities in the coordinates of the Plücker embedding.

A zero-dimensional approach to Hermitian codes

We study the algebraic geometry of a family of evaluation codes from plane smooth curves defined over any field. In particular, we provide a cohomological characterization of their dual minimum distance. After having discussed some general results on zero-dimensional subschemes of the plane, we focus on the interesting case of Hermitian $s$-point codes, describing the geometry of their dual minimum-weight codewords.

On the surjectivity of weighted Gaussian maps

We study the surjectivity of suitable weighted Gaussian maps which provide a natural generalization of the standard Gaussian maps and encode the local geometry of the locus of curves endowed with a higher root of the canonical bundle having associated linear system of dimension at least r + 1. In particular, we get a bound on the dimension of its Zariski tangent space, which turns out to be sharp in the special case r = 0. Finally, we describe this locus in the case of complete intersection curves.

Projective normality of Artin-Schreier curves

In this paper we study the projective normality of certain Artin-Schreier curves $Y_f$ defined over a field $\F$ of characteristic $p$ by the equations $y^q+y=f(x)$, $q$ being a power of $p$ and $f\in \F[x]$ being a polynomial in $x$ of degree $m$, with $(m,p)=1$. Many $Y_f$ curves are singular and so, to be precise, here we study the projective normality of appropriate projective models of their normalizations.
