Lie Symmetries, Painlevé analysis and global dynamics for the temporal equation of radiating stars

We study the temporal equation of radiating stars by using three powerful methods for the analysis of nonlinear differential equations. Specifically, we investigate the global dynamics for the given master ordinary differential equation to understand the evolution of solutions for various initial conditions as also to investigate the existence of asymptotic solutions. Moreover, with the application of Lie's theory, we can reduce the order of the master differential equation, while an exact similarity solution is determined. Finally, the master equation possesses the Painlevé property, which means that the analytic solution can be expressed in terms of a Laurent expansion.

Temporal evolution of a radiating star via Lie symmetries

In this work, we present for the first time the general solution of the temporal evolution equation arising from the matching of a conformally flat interior to the Vaidya solution. This problem was first articulated by Banerjee et al. (A. Banerjee, S. B. Dutta Choudhury, and Bidyut K. Bhui, Phys. Rev. D, 40 (670) 1989) in which they provided a particular solution to the temporal equation. This simple exact solution has been widely utilized in modeling dissipative collapse with the most notable result being a prediction of the avoidance of the horizon as the collapse proceeds. We study the dynamics of dissipative collapse arising from the general solution obtained via the method of symmetries and of the singularity analysis. We show that the end-state of collapse for our model is significantly different from the widely used linear solution.

Unified dark sectors in scalar-torsion theories of gravity

We present a unified description of the matter and dark energy epochs, using a class of scalar-torsion theories. We provide a Hamiltonian description, and by applying Noether's theorem and by requiring the field equations to admit linear-in-momentum conservation laws we obtain two specific classes of scalar-field potentials. We extract analytic solutions and we perform a detailed dynamical analysis. We show that the system possesses critical points that correspond to scaling solutions in which the effective, total equation-of-state parameter is close to zero and points in which it is equal to the cosmological constant value $-1$. Therefore, during evolution, the Universe remains for sufficiently long times at the epoch corresponding to dust-matter domination, while at later times it enters the accelerated epoch and it eventually results in the de Sitter phase. Finally, in contrast to other unified scenarios, such as Chaplygin gas-based models as well as Horndeski-based constructions, the present scenario is free from instabilities and pathologies at the perturbative level.

Observational constraints and dynamical analysis of Kaniadakis horizon-entropy cosmology

We study the scenario of Kanadiakis horizon entropy cosmology which arises from the application of the gravity-thermodynamics conjecture using the Kaniadakis modified entropy. The resulting modified Friedmann equations contain extra terms that constitute an effective dark energy sector. We use data from Cosmic chronometers, Supernova Type Ia, HII galaxies, Strong lensing systems, and Baryon acoustic oscillations observations and we apply a Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis to construct the likelihood contours for the model parameters. We find that the Kaniadakis parameter is constrained around 0, namely, around the value where the standard Bekenstein-Hawking is recovered. Concerning the normalized Hubble parameter, we find $h=0.708^{+0.012}_{-0.011}$, a result that is independently verified by applying the $\mathbf{\mathbb{H}}0(z)$ diagnostic and, thus, we conclude that the scenario at hand can alleviate the $H_0$ tension problem. Regarding the transition redshift, the reconstruction of the cosmographic parameters gives $z_T=0.715^{+0.042}_{-0.041}$. Furthermore, we apply the AICc, BIC and DIC information criteria and we find that in most datasets the scenario is statistical equivalent to $Λ$CDM one. Moreover, we examine the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) and we show that the scenario satisfies the corresponding requirements. Additionally, we perform a phase-space analysis, and we show that the Universe past attractor is the matter-dominated epoch, while at late times the Universe results in the dark-energy-dominated solution. Finally, we show that Kanadiakis horizon entropy cosmology accepts heteroclinic sequences, but it cannot exhibit bounce and turnaround solutions.

Modified Brans-Dicke cosmology with Minimum Length Uncertainty

We consider a modification of the Brans-Dicke gravitational Action Integral inspired by the existence of a minimum length uncertainty for the scalar field. In particular, the kinetic part of the Brans-Dicke scalar field is modified such that the equation of motion for the scalar field be modified according to the quadratic Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). For the background geometry, we assume the homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker metric. We investigate the dynamics and the cosmological evolution for the dynamical variables of the theory and we compare the results with the unmodified Brans-Dicke theory. It follows that in consideration because of the additional degrees of freedom in the energy-momentum tensor the dynamical variables describe various aspects of the cosmological history. This is one of the first studies on the effects of GUP in a Machian gravitational theory.

Kaniadakis holographic dark energy: observational constraints and global dynamics

We investigate Kaniadakis-holographic dark energy by confronting it with observations. We perform a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis using cosmic chronometers, supernovae type Ia, and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations data. Concerning the Kaniadakis parameter, we find that it is constrained around zero, namely around the value in which Kaniadakis entropy recovers standard Bekenstein-Hawking one. Additionally, for the present matter density parameter $Ω_m^{(0)}$, we obtain a value slightly smaller compared to $Λ$CDM scenario. Furthermore, we reconstruct the evolution of the Hubble, deceleration and jerk parameters extracting the deceleration-acceleration transition redshift as $z_T = 0.86^{+0.21}_{-0.14}$. Finally, performing a detailed local and global dynamical system analysis, we find that the past attractor of the Universe is the matter-dominated solution, while the late-time stable solution is the dark-energy-dominated one.

A Perturbative Analysis of Interacting Scalar Field Cosmologies

Scalar field cosmologies with a generalized harmonic potential are investigated in flat and negatively curved Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker and Bianchi I metrics. An interaction between the scalar field and matter is considered. Asymptotic methods and averaging theory are used to obtain relevant information about the solution space. In this approach, the Hubble parameter plays the role of a time-dependent perturbation parameter which controls the magnitude of the error between full-system and time-averaged solutions as it decreases. Our approach is used to show that full and time-averaged systems have the same asymptotic behavior. Numerical simulations are presented as evidence of such behavior. Moreover, the asymptotic behavior of the solutions is independent of the coupling function.

Global dynamics of the hyperbolic Chiral-Phantom model

We perform a detailed analysis of the asymptotic behavior of a multifield cosmological model with phantom terms. Specifically, we consider the Chiral-Phantom model consisting of two scalar fields with a mixed kinetic term, while one scalar field has negative kinetic energy, that is, it has phantom properties. We show that the Hubble function can change sign, and we study the global evolution of the field equation in the finite and infinity regions with the use of Poincaré variables. We find that in the Chiral-Phantom model the limit of the quintessence scalar field is recovered while the cosmological evolution differs from the standard hyperbolic theory. Finally, the linear cosmological perturbations are studied.

Time-averaging axion-like interacting scalar fields models

In this paper, we study a cosmological model inspired in the axionic matter with two canonical scalar fields $ϕ_1$ and $ϕ_2$ interacting through a term added to its potential. Introducing novel dynamical variables, and a dimensionless time variable, the resulting dynamical system is studied. The main difficulties arising in the standard dynamical systems approach, where expansion normalized dynamical variables are usually adopted, are due to the oscillations entering the nonlinear system through the Klein-Gordon (KG) equations. This motivates the analysis of the oscillations using methods from the theory of averaging nonlinear dynamical systems. We prove that time-dependent systems, and their corresponding time-averaged versions, have the same late-time dynamics. Then, we study the time-averaged system using standard techniques of dynamical systems. We present numerical simulations as evidence of such behavior.

Global dynamics and evolution for the Szekeres system with nonzero cosmological constant term

The Szekeres system with cosmological constant term describes the evolution of the kinematic quantities for Einstein field equations in $\mathbb{R}^4$. In this study, we investigate the behavior of trajectories in the presence of cosmological constant. It has been shown that the Szekeres system is a Hamiltonian dynamical system. It admits at least two conservation laws, $h$ and $I_{0}$ which indicate the integrability of the Hamiltonian system. We solve the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, and we reduce the Szekeres system from $\mathbb{R}^4$ to an equivalent system defined in $\mathbb{R}^2$. Global dynamics are studied where we find that there exists an attractor in the finite regime only for positive valued cosmological constant and $I_0<2.08$. Otherwise, trajectories reach infinity. For $I_ {0}>0$ the origin of trajectories in $\mathbb{R}^2$ is also at infinity. Finally, we investigate the evolution of physical properties by using dimensionless variables different from that of Hubble-normalization conducing to a dynamical system in $\mathbb{R}^5$. We see that the attractor at the finite regime in $\mathbb{R}^5$ is related with the de Sitter universe for a positive cosmological constant.

Barrow Entropy Cosmology: an observational approach with a hint of stability analysis

In this work, we use an observational approach and dynamical system analysis to study the cosmological model recently proposed by Saridakis (2020), which is based on the modification of the entropy-area black hole relation proposed by Barrow (2020). The Friedmann equations governing the dynamics of the Universe under this entropy modification can be calculated through the gravity-thermodynamics conjecture. We investigate two models, one considering only a matter component and the other including matter and radiation, which have new terms compared to the standard model sourcing the late cosmic acceleration. A Bayesian analysis is performed in which we use five cosmological observations (observational Hubble data, type Ia supernovae, HII galaxies, strong lensing systems, and baryon acoustic oscillations) to constrain the free parameters of both models. From a joint analysis, we obtain constraints that are consistent with the standard cosmological paradigm within $2σ$ confidence level. In addition, a complementary dynamical system analysis using local and global variables is developed which allows obtaining a qualitative description of the cosmology. As expected, we found that the dynamical equations have a de Sitter solution at late times.

Averaging generalized scalar field cosmologies III: Kantowski--Sachs and closed Friedmann--Lemaître--Robertson--Walker models

Scalar field cosmologies with a generalized harmonic potential and matter with energy density $ρ_m$, pressure $p_m$, and barotropic equation of state (EoS) $p_m=(γ-1)ρ_m, \; γ\in[0,2]$ in Kantowski-Sachs (KS) and closed Friedmann--Lemaître--Robertson--Walker (FLRW) metrics are investigated. We use methods from non--linear dynamical systems theory and averaging theory considering a time--dependent perturbation function $D$. We define a regular dynamical system over a compact phase space, obtaining global results. That is, for KS metric the global late--time attractors of full and time--averaged systems are two anisotropic contracting solutions, which are non--flat locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Kasner and Taub (flat LRS Kasner) for $0\leq γ\leq 2$, and flat FLRW matter--dominated universe if $0\leq γ\leq \frac{2}{3}$. For closed FLRW metric late--time attractors of full and averaged systems are a flat matter--dominated FLRW universe for $0\leq γ\leq \frac{2}{3}$ as in KS and Einstein-de Sitter solution for $0\leqγ<1$. Therefore, time--averaged system determines future asymptotics of full system. Also, oscillations entering the system through Klein-Gordon (KG) equation can be controlled and smoothed out when $D$ goes monotonically to zero, and incidentally for the whole $D$-range for KS and for closed FLRW (if $0\leq γ< 1$) too. However, for $γ\geq 1$ closed FLRW solutions of the full system depart from the solutions of the averaged system as $D$ is large. Our results are supported by numerical simulations.

Interacting quintessence in light of Generalized Uncertainty Principle: Cosmological perturbations and dynamics

We consider a cosmological scenario endowed with an interaction between the universe's dark components $-$ dark matter and dark energy. Specifically, we assume the dark matter component to be a pressure-less fluid, while the dark energy component is a quintessence scalar field with Lagrangian function modified by the quadratic Generalized Uncertainty Principle. The latter modification introduces new higher-order terms of fourth-derivative due to quantum corrections in the scalar field's equation of motion. Then we investigate asymptotic dynamics and general behaviour of solutions of the field equations for some interacting models of special interests in the literature. At the background level, the present interacting model exhibits the matter-dominated and de Sitter solutions which are absent in the corresponding quintessence model. Furthermore, to boost the background analysis, we study cosmological linear perturbations in the Newtonian gauge where we show how perturbations are modified by quantum corrected terms from the quadratic Generalized Uncertainty Principle. Depending on the coupling parameters, scalar perturbations show a wide range of behavior.

Einstein-æther Scalar-tensor Cosmology

We propose an Einstein-æther scalar-tensor cosmological model. In particular in the scalar-tensor Action Integral we introduce the æther field with æther coefficients to be functions of the scalar field. This cosmological model extends previous studies on Lorentz-violating theories. For a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space we write the field equations which are of second-order with dynamical variables the scale factor and the scalar field. The physical evolution of the field equations depends upon three unknown functions which are related to the scalar-tensor coupling function, the scalar field potential and the æther coefficient functions. We investigate the existence of analytic solutions for the field equations and the integrability properties according to the existence of linear in the momentum conservation laws. We define a new set of variables in which the dynamical evolution depends only upon the scalar field potential. Furthermore, the asymptotic behaviour and the cosmological history is investigated where we find that the theory provides inflationary eras similar with that of scalar-tensor theory but with Lorentz-violating terms provided by the æther field. Finally, in the new variables we found that the field equations are integrable due to the existence of nonlocal conservation laws for arbitrary functional forms of the three free functions.

Cosmological evolution in $f(T,B)$ gravity

For the fourth-order teleparallel $f\left(T,B\right) $ theory of gravity, we investigate the cosmological evolution for the universe in the case of a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space. We focus on the case for which $f\left(T,B\right) $ is separable, that is, $f\left(T,B\right) _{,TB}=0$ and $f\left(T,B\right) $ is a nonlinear function on the scalars $T$ and $B$. For this fourth-order theory we use a Lagrange multiplier to introduce a scalar field function which attributes the higher-order derivatives. In order to perform the analysis of the dynamics we use dimensionless variables which allow the Hubble function to change sign. The stationary points of the dynamical system are investigated both in the finite and infinite regimes. The physical properties of the asymptotic solutions and their stability characteristics are discussed.

New conservation laws and exact cosmological solutions in Brans-Dicke cosmology with an extra scalar field

The derivation of conservation laws and invariant functions is an essential procedure for the investigation of nonlinear dynamical systems. In this study we consider a two-field cosmological model with scalar fields defined in the Jordan frame. In particular we consider a Brans-Dicke scalar field theory and for the second scalar field we consider a quintessence scalar field minimally coupled to gravity. For this cosmological model we apply for the first time a new technique for the derivation of conservation laws without the application of variational symmetries. The results are applied for the derivation of new exact solutions. The stability properties of the scaling solutions are investigated and criteria for the nature of the second field according to the stability of these solutions are determined.

Variational symmetries and superintegrability in multifield cosmology

We consider a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space with an ideal gas and a multifield Lagrangian consisting of two minimally coupled scalar fields which evolve in a field space of constant curvature. For this cosmological model we classify the potential function for the scalar fields such that variational point symmetries exist. The corresponding conservation laws are calculated. Finally, analytic solutions are presented for specific functional forms of the scalar field potential in which the cosmological field equations are characterized as a Liouville integrable system by point symmetries. The free parameters of the cosmological model are constrained in order to describe analytic solutions for an inflationary epoch. Finally, stability properties of exact closed-form solutions are investigated. These solutions are scaling solutions with important physical properties for the cosmological model.

Averaging Generalized Scalar Field Cosmologies II: Locally Rotationally Symmetric Bianchi I and flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker models

Scalar field cosmologies with a generalized harmonic potential and a matter fluid with a barotropic Equation of State (EoS) with barotropic index $γ$ for the Locally Rotationally Symmetric (LRS) Bianchi I and flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metrics are investigated. Methods from the theory of averaging of nonlinear dynamical systems are used to prove that time-dependent systems and their corresponding time-averaged versions have the same late-time dynamics. Therefore, the simplest time-averaged system determines the future asymptotic behavior. Depending on the values of $γ$, the late-time attractors of physical interests are flat quintessence dominated FLRW universe and Einstein-de Sitter solution. With this approach, the oscillations entering the system through the Klein-Gordon (KG) equation can be controlled and smoothed out as the Hubble parameter $H$ - acting as time-dependent perturbation parameter - tends monotonically to zero. Numerical simulations are presented as evidence of such behavior.
