Averaging Generalized Scalar Field Cosmologies I: Locally Rotationally Symmetric Bianchi III and open Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker models

Scalar field cosmologies with a generalized harmonic potential and a matter fluid with a barotropic Equation of State (EoS) with barotropic index $γ$ for Locally Rotationally Symmetric (LRS) Bianchi III metric and open Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric are investigated. Methods from the theory of averaging of nonlinear dynamical systems are used to prove that time-dependent systems and their corresponding time-averaged versions have the same late-time dynamics. Therefore, simple time-averaged systems determine the future asymptotic behavior. Depending on values of barotropic index $γ$ late-time attractors of physical interests for LRS Bianchi III metric are Bianchi III flat spacetime, matter dominated FLRW universe (mimicking de Sitter, quintessence or zero acceleration solutions) and matter-curvature scaling solution. For open FLRW metric late-time attractors are a matter dominated FLRW universe and Milne solution. With this approach, oscillations entering nonlinear system through Klein-Gordon (KG) equation can be controlled and smoothed out as the Hubble factor $H$ - acting as a time-dependent perturbation parameter - tends monotonically to zero. Numerical simulations are presented as evidence of such behaviour.

Singularity analysis and analytic solutions for the Benney-Gjevik equations

We apply the Painlevé Test for the Benney and the Benney-Gjevik equations which describe waves in falling liquids. We prove that these two nonlinear 1+1 evolution equations pass the singularity test for the travelling-wave solutions. The algebraic solutions in terms of Laurent expansions are presented.

Exact black hole solutions in Einstein-Aether Scalar field theory

We present exact solutions in Einstein-aether theory in a static spherically symmetric background space with a spacelike aether field, as a difference with the usual selection of timelike aether field. We assume a coupling between the scalar field and the aether field introduced in the aether coefficients. The exact spacetimes describe hairy black hole solutions for which the limits of the Schwarzschild, de-Sitter Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström metrics are recovered.

Einstein-aether models III: conformally static metrics, perfect fluid and scalar fields

The asymptotic properties of conformally static metrics in Einstein-aether theory with a perfect fluid source and a scalar field are analyzed. In case of perfect fluid, some relativistic solutions are recovered such as: Minkowski spacetime, the Kasner solution, a flat FLRW space and static orbits depending on the barotropic parameter $γ$. To analyze locally the behavior of the solutions near a sonic line $v^2=γ-1$, where $v$ is the tilt, a new "shock" variable is used. Two new equilibrium point on this line are found. These points do not exist in General Relativity when $1 <γ<2 $. In the limiting case of General Relativity these points represent stiff solutions with extreme tilt. Lines of equilibrium points associated with a change of causality of the homothetic vector field are found in the limit of General Relativity. For non-homogeneous scalar field $ϕ(t,x)$ with potential $V(ϕ(t,x))$ the symmetry of the conformally static metric restrict the scalar fields to be considered to $ ϕ(t,x)=ψ(x)-λt, V(ϕ(t,x))= e^{-2 t} U(ψ(x))$, $U(ψ)=U_0 e^{-\frac{2 ψ}λ}$. An exhaustive analysis (analytical or numerical) of the stability conditions is provided for some particular cases.

Integrability and Cosmological Solutions in Einstein-aether-Weyl theory

We consider a Lorentz violating scalar field cosmological model given by the modified Einstein-aether theory defined in Weyl integrable geometry. The existence of exact and analytic solutions is investigated for the case of a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space. We show that the theory admits cosmological solutions of special interests. In addition, we prove that the cosmological field equations admit the Lewis invariant as a second conservation law, which indicates the integrability of the field equations.

Exact Kantowski-Sachs spacetimes in Einstein-Aether Scalar field theory

Exact and analytic solutions in Einstein-Aether scalar field theory with Kantowski-Sachs background space are determined. The theory of point symmetries is applied to determine the functional form of the unknown functions which defines the gravitational model. Conservation laws are applied to reduce the order of the field equations and write the analytic solution. Moreover, in order to understand the physical behaviour of the cosmological model a detailed analysis of the asymptotic behaviour for the gravitational field equations is performed.

Generalized scalar field cosmologies: theorems on asymptotic behavior

Phase-space descriptions are used to find qualitative features of the solutions of generalized scalar field cosmologies with arbitrary potentials and arbitrary couplings to matter. Previous results are summarized and new ones are presented as theorems, which include the previous ones as corollaries. Examples of these results are presented as well as counterexamples when the hypotheses of the theorems are not fulfilled. Potentials with small cosine-like corrections motivated by inflationary loop-quantum cosmology are discussed. Finally, the Hubble-normalized formulation for the FRW metric and for the Bianchi I metric is applied to a scalar field cosmology with a generalized harmonic potential, non-minimally coupled to matter, and the stability of the solutions is discussed.

Dynamics of a two scalar field cosmological model with phantom terms

We perform a detailed analysis on the dynamics of a Chiral-like cosmological model where the scalar fields can have negative kinetic terms. In particular, we study the asymptotic dynamics for the gravitational field equations for four different models in a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space. When one of the scalar fields is phantom, we calculated that the cosmological fluid can evolves such that the parameter for the equation of state crosses twice the phantom divide line without the appearance of ghosts. Moreover, the cosmological viability of these four models is discussed.

Generalized Scalar Field Cosmologies: A Global Dynamical Systems Formulation

Local and global phase-space descriptions and averaging methods are used to find qualitative features of solutions for the FLRW and the Bianchi I metrics in the context of scalar field cosmologies with arbitrary potentials and arbitrary couplings to matter. The stability of the equilibrium points in a phase-space as well as the dynamics in the regime where the scalar field diverges are studied. Equilibrium points that represent some solutions of cosmological interest such as: several types of scaling solutions, a kinetic dominated solution representing a stiff fluid, a solution dominated by an effective energy density of geometric origin, a quintessence scalar field dominated solution, the vacuum de Sitter solution associated to the minimum of the potential, and a non-interacting matter dominated solution are obtained. All reveal a very rich cosmological phenomenology.

Stability of a modified Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory in the dilatonic frame

We investigate the Jordan-Brans-Dicke action in the cosmological scenario of FLRW spacetime with zero spatially curvature and with an extra scalar field minimally coupled to gravity as matter source. The field equations are studied in two ways. The method of group invariant transformations, i.e., symmetries of differential equations apply in order to constraint the free functions of the theory and determine conservation laws for the gravitational field equations. The second method that we apply for the study of the evolution of the field equations is the stability analysis of equilibrium points. Particularly, we find solutions with $w_{\text{tot}}=-1$, and we study their stability by means of the Center Manifold Theorem. We show this solution is an attractor in the dilatonic frame but it is an intermediate accelerated solution $a \simeq e^{A t^p}, p:=\frac{2}{2+l}, \quad \frac{32}{57+6 ω_0}<p<\frac{2}{3}, \;\text{as}\; t\rightarrow \infty$, and not de Sitter solution. The exponent $p$ is reduced, in a particular case, to the exponent already found for the Jordan's and Einstein's frames by A. Cid, G. Leon and Y. Leyva, JCAP 1602, no. 02, 027 (2016). We obtain some equilibrium points which represent stiff solutions. Additionally, we find solutions that can be a phantom solution, a solution with $w_{\text{tot}}=-1$ or a quintessence solution. Other equilibrium points mimic a standard dark matter source ($0<w_{\text{tot}}<1$), radiation ($w_{\text{tot}}=\frac{1}{3}$), among other interesting features. For the dynamical system analysis we develop an extension of the method of $F$-devisers. The new approach relies upon two arbitrary functions $h(λ, s)$ and $F(s)$. The main advantage of this procedure allows us to perform a phase-space analysis of the cosmological model without the need for specifying the potentials, revealing the full capabilities of the model.

Inhomogeneous spacetimes in Weyl integrable geometry with matter source

We investigate the existence of inhomogeneous exact solutions in Weyl Integrable theory with a matter source. In particular, we consider the existence of a dust fluid source while for the underlying geometry we assume a line element which belongs to the family of silent universes. We solve explicitly the field equations and we find the Szekeres spacetimes in Weyl Integrable theory. We show that only the isotropic family can describe inhomogeneous solutions where the LTB spacetimes are included. A detailed analysis of the dynamics of the field equations is given where the past and future attractors are determined. It is interesting that the Kasner spacetimes can be seen as past attractors for the gravitation models, while the unique future attractor describes the Milne universe similar with the behaviour of the gravitational model in the case of General Relativity.

Dynamics of Quintessence in Generalized Uncertainty Principle

We investigate the quintessence scalar field model modified by the Generalized Uncertainty Principle in the background of a spatially flat homogeneous and isotropic universe. By performing a dynamical system analysis we examine the nature of the critical points and their stability for two potentials, one is the exponential potential and the other is a general potential. In the case of an exponential potential, we find some new critical points for this modified quintessence scenario that describe the de Sitter universe, and these critical points do not appear in the standard quintessence model with an exponential potential. This is one of the main results of this work. Now for the general potential our analysis shows that the physical properties of the critical points remain exactly the same as for the exponential potential which means that within this modified quintessence scenario all kind of potentials have same behaviour. This kind of result is completely new in cosmology because with the change of the potential, differences are usually expected in all respect.

Asymptotic behavior of $N$-fields Chiral Cosmology

We perform a detailed analysis for the asymptotic behaviour for the multi-scalar field Chiral cosmological scenario. We present the asymptotic behaviour for the one-field, two-fields and three-fields Chiral models. From these results, and deriving conserved quantities, we present a Theorem for the $N$-fields model for the Chiral model with $N$--fields. We find that the maximum number of scalar fields which provide interesting physical results is two-fields, while for $N>2$ the new stationary points are only of mathematical interest since they do not describe new exact solutions different from those recovered for $N=2$.

Einstein-aether theory in Weyl integrable geometry

We study the Einstein-aether theory in Weyl integrable geometry. The scalar field which defines the Weyl affine connection is introduced in the gravitational field equation. We end up with an Einstein-aether scalar field model where the interaction between the scalar field and the aether field has a geometric origin. The scalar field plays a significant role in the evolution of the gravitational field equations. We focus our study on the case of homogeneous and isotropic background spacetimes and study their dynamical evolution for various cosmological models.

Generalized Emergent Dark Energy: observational Hubble data constraints and stability analysis

Recently \citet{PEDE:2019ApJ} proposed a phenomenologically emergent dark energy (PEDE) which consider that the dark energy density evolves as $\widetildeΩ_{\rm{DE}}(z)\,=\,Ω_{\rm{DE,0}}\left[ 1 - {\rm{tanh}}\left( {\log}_{10}(1+z) \right) \right]$ with the advantage that it does not have degree of freedom. Later on, \citet{PEDE:2020} proposed a generalized model by adding one degree of freedom to the PEDE model, encoded in the parameter $Δ$. Motivated by these proposals, we constrain the parameter space ($h,Ω_m$) and ($h,Ω_m, Δ$) for PEDE and Generalized Emergent Dark Energy (GEDE) respectively, by employing the most recent observational (non-) homogeneous Hubble data. Additionally, we reconstruct the deceleration and jerk parameters and estimate yield values at $z=0$ of $q_0 = -0.784^{+0.028}_{-0.027}$ and $j_0 = 1.241^{+0.164}_{-0.149}$ for PEDE and $q_0 = -0.730^{+0.059}_{-0.067}$ and $j_0 = 1.293^{+0.194}_{-0.187}$ for GEDE using the homogeneous sample. We report values on the deceleration-acceleration transition redshift with those reported in the literature within $2σ$ CL. Furthermore, we perform a stability analysis of the PEDE and GEDE models to study the global evolution of the Universe around their critical points. Although the PEDE and GEDE dynamics are similar to the standard model, our stability analysis indicates that in both models there is an accelerated phase at early epochs of the Universe.

Generalized scalar field cosmologies

All reveal a very rich cosmological phenomenology. Finally, we present some examples that violate one or more hypotheses of the Theorems proved, obtaining some counterexamples. In particular, we incorporate small cosine-like corrections motivated by inflationary loop-quantum cosmology, and we study the oscillatory behavior.

Dynamics and exact Bianchi I spacetimes in Einstein-aether scalar field theory

We determine exact and analytic solutions of the gravitational field equations in Einstein-aether scalar model field with a Bianchi I background space. In particular, we consider nonlinear interactions of the scalar field with the aether field. For the model under consideration we can write the field equations by using the minisuperspace description. The point-like Lagrangian of the field equations depends on three unknown functions. We derive conservation laws for the field equations for specific forms of the unknown functions such that the field equations are Liouville integrable. Furthermore, we study the evolution of the field equations and the evolution of the anisotropies by determining the equilibrium points and analyzing their stability.

Analytic solutions in Einstein-aether scalar field cosmology

In the context of Einstein-aether scalar field cosmology we solve the field equations and determine exact and analytic solutions. In particular, we consider a model proposed by Kanno and Soda where the aether and the scalar fields interact through the aether coefficient parameters, which are promoted to be functions of the scalar field. For this model, we write the field equations by using the minisuperspace approach and we determine the scalar field potentials which leads to Liouville--integrable systems. We solve the field equations for five families of scalar field potentials and, whether it is feasible, we write down the analytic solutions by using closed-form functions.
