A Stochastic Flow for the Stochastic Allen-Cahn Equation with Multiplicative Noise

We establish the existence of a stochastic flow on $L^{\infty} (\mathbb{T})$ for the stochastic Allen-Cahn equation with multiplicative noise \[ (\partial_t - \partial_x^2) u = u - u^3 + \sigma (u) \xi \quad \text{on} \quad \mathbb{R}_+ \times \mathbb{T}, \] where $\xi$ is space-time white noise and $\sigma : \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is sufficiently smooth, bounded, and has bounded derivatives. Our strategy is to obtain pathwise a priori estimates via regularity structures. In fact, we consider a general singular multiplicative equation with superlinear damping, driven by noises of parabolic regularity $\alpha - 2$, for ${\alpha \in (0, 1)}$, which can be lifted to a weakly admissible model. We show that the required estimates hold whenever \[ m > \frac{2 - \alpha}{\alpha} \varepsilon_{\alpha}, \quad \text{where} \quad \varepsilon_{\alpha} = 1 - \alpha \left( 1 - \frac{2}{3 - \alpha} \right) \in (0, 1) . \] Thus the strength of the damping needs to be chosen only as a function of the regularity of the driving noise. Under an additional smoothness assumption on $\sigma$, we show that the stochastic flow is differentiable with respect to its initial condition.

A priori bounds for stochastic porous media equations via regularity structures

We prove a priori bounds for solutions of singular stochastic porous media equations with multiplicative noise in their natural $L^1$-based regularity class. We consider the first singular regime, i.e.~noise of space-time regularity $\alpha-2$ for $\alpha\in(2/3,1)$, and prove modelledness of the solution in the sense of regularity structures with respect to the solution of the corresponding linear stochastic heat equation. The proof relies on the kinetic formulation of the equation and a novel renormalized energy inequality. A careful analysis allows to balance the degeneracy of the diffusion coefficient against sufficiently strong damping of the multiplicative noise for small values of the solution.

Scaling limit of a weakly asymmetric simple exclusion process in the framework of regularity structures

We prove that a parabolically rescaled and suitably renormalised height function of a weakly asymmetric simple exclusion process on a circle converges to the Cole-Hopf solution of the KPZ equation. This is an analogue of the celebrated result by Bertini and Giacomin from 1997 for the exclusion process on a circle with any particle density. The main goal of this article is to analyse the interacting particle system using the framework of regularity structures without applying the Gaertner transform, a discrete version of the Cole-Hopf transform which linearises the KPZ equation. Our analysis relies on discretisation framework for regularity structures developed by Erhard and Hairer as well as estimates for iterated integrals with respect to cadlag martingales derived by Grazieschi, Matetski and Weber. The main technical challenge addressed in this work is the renormalisation procedure which requires a subtle analysis of regularity preserving discrete convolution operators.

Holley--Stroock uniqueness method for the $\varphi^4_2$ dynamics

The approach initiated by Holley--Stroock establishes the uniqueness of invariant measures of Glauber dynamics of lattice spin systems from a uniform log-Sobolev inequality. We use this approach to prove uniqueness of the invariant measure of the $\varphi^4_2$ SPDE up to the critical temperature (characterised by finite susceptibility). The approach requires three ingredients: a uniform log-Sobolev inequality (which is already known), a propagation speed estimate, and a crude estimate on the relative entropy of the law of the finite volume dynamics at time $1$ with respect to the finite volume invariant measure. The last two ingredients are understood very generally on the lattice, but the proofs do not extend to SPDEs, and are here established in the instance of the $\varphi^4_2$ dynamics.

Stochastic quantization of $\lambda \phi_2^4$- theory in 2-d Moyal space

There is strong evidence for the conjecture that the $\lambda \phi^4$ QFT- model on 4-dimensional non-commutative Moyal space can be non-perturbatively constructed. As preparation, in this paper we construct the 2-dimensional case with the method of stochastic quantization. We show the local well-posedness and global well-posedness of the stochastic quantization equation, leading to a construction of the Moyal $\lambda \phi^4_2$ measure for any non-negative coupling constant $\lambda$.

A priori bounds for the dynamic fractional $Φ^4$ model on $\mathbb{T}^3$ in the full subcritical regime

We show a priori bounds for the dynamic fractional $Φ^4$ model on $\mathbb{T}^3$ in the full subcritical regime using the framework of Hairer's regularity structures theory. Assuming the model bounds our estimates imply global existence of solutions and existence of an invariant measure. We extend the method developed for the usual heat operator by Chandra, Moinat and Weber [CMW23] to the fractional heat operator, thereby treating a more physically relevant model. A key ingredient in this work is the development of localised multilevel Schauder estimates for the fractional heat operator which is not covered by Hairer's original work. Furthermore, the algebraic arguments from [CMW23] are streamlined significantly.

Towards a Completeness Argumentation for Scenario Concepts

Scenario-based testing has become a promising approach to overcome the complexity of real-world traffic for safety assurance of automated vehicles. Within scenario-based testing, a system under test is confronted with a set of predefined scenarios. This set shall ensure more efficient testing of an automated vehicle operating in an open context compared to real-world testing. However, the question arises if a scenario catalog can cover the open context sufficiently to allow an argumentation for sufficiently safe driving functions and how this can be proven. Within this paper, a methodology is proposed to argue a sufficient completeness of a scenario concept using a goal structured notation. Thereby, the distinction between completeness and coverage is discussed. For both, methods are proposed for a streamlined argumentation and regarding evidence. These methods are applied to a scenario concept and the inD dataset to prove the usability.

A priori bounds for quasi-linear SPDEs in the full sub-critical regime

This paper is concerned with quasi-linear parabolic equations driven by an additive forcing $ξ\in C^{α-2}$, in the full sub-critical regime $α\in (0,1)$. We are inspired by Hairer's regularity structures, however we work with a more parsimonious model indexed by multi-indices rather than trees. This allows us to capture additional symmetries which play a crucial role in our analysis. Assuming bounds on this model, which is modified in agreement with the concept of algebraic renormalization, we prove local a priori estimates on solutions to the quasi-linear equations modified by the corresponding counter terms.

A priori bounds for 2-d generalised Parabolic Anderson Model

We show a priori bounds for solutions to $(\partial_t - \Delta) u = \sigma (u) \xi$ in finite volume in the framework of Hairer's Regularity Structures [Invent Math 198:269--504, 2014]. We assume $\sigma \in C_b^2 (\mathbb{R})$ and that $\xi$ is of negative H\"older regularity of order $- 1 - \kappa$ where $\kappa < \bar{\kappa}$ for an explicit $\bar{\kappa}< 1/3$, and that it can be lifted to a model in the sense of Regularity Structures. Our main results guarantee non-explosion of the solution in finite time and a growth which is at most polynomial in $t > 0$. Our estimates imply global well-posedness for the 2-d generalised parabolic Anderson model on the torus, as well as for the parabolic quantisation of the Sine-Gordon Euclidean Quantum Field Theory (EQFT) on the torus in the regime $\beta^2 \in (4 \pi, (1 + \bar{\kappa}) 4 \pi)$. We also consider the parabolic quantisation of a massive Sine-Gordon EQFT and derive estimates that imply the existence of the measure for the same range of $\beta$. Finally, our estimates apply to It\^o SPDEs in the sense of Da Prato-Zabczyk [Stochastic Equations in Infinite Dimensions, Enc. Math. App., Cambridge Univ. Press, 1992] and imply existence of a stochastic flow beyond the trace-class regime.

Feature Engineering with Regularity Structures

We investigate the use of models from the theory of regularity structures as features in machine learning tasks. A model is a polynomial function of a space-time signal designed to well-approximate solutions to partial differential equations (PDEs), even in low regularity regimes. Models can be seen as natural multi-dimensional generalisations of signatures of paths; our work therefore aims to extend the recent use of signatures in data science beyond the context of time-ordered data. We provide a flexible definition of a model feature vector associated to a space-time signal, along with two algorithms which illustrate ways in which these features can be combined with linear regression. We apply these algorithms in several numerical experiments designed to learn solutions to PDEs with a given forcing and boundary data. Our experiments include semi-linear parabolic and wave equations with forcing, and Burgers' equation with no forcing. We find an advantage in favour of our algorithms when compared to several alternative methods. Additionally, in the experiment with Burgers' equation, we find non-trivial predictive power when noise is added to the observations.

The dynamical Ising-Kac model in 3D converges to $Φ^4_3$

We consider the Glauber dynamics of a ferromagnetic Ising-Kac model on a three-dimensional periodic lattice of size $(2N + 1)3$, in which the flipping rate of each spin depends on an average field in a large neighborhood of radius $\frac1γ<< N$. We study the random fluctuations of a suitably rescaled coarse-grained spin field as $N \to \infty$ and $γ\to 0$; we show that near the mean-field value of the critical temperature, the process converges in distribution to the solution of the dynamical $Φ^4_3$ model on a torus. Our result settles a conjectured from Giacomin, Lebowitz and Presutti (DOI:10.1090/SURV/064/03). The dynamical $Φ^4_3$ model is given by a non-linear stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) which is driven by an additive space-time white noise and which requires renormalisation of the non-linearity. A rigorous notion of solution for this SPDE and its renormalisation is provided by the framework of regularity structures arXiv:1303.5113. As in the two-dimensional case arXiv:1410.1179, the renormalisation corresponds to a small shift of the inverse temperature of the discrete system away from its mean-field value.

Martingale-driven integrals and singular SPDEs

We consider multiple stochastic integrals with respect to càdlàg martingales, which approximate a cylindrical Wiener process. We define a chaos expansion, analogous to the case of multiple Wiener stochastic integrals, for these integrals and use it to show moment bounds. Key tools include an iteration of the Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequality and a multi-scale decomposition similar to the one developed in arXiv:1512.07845. Our method can be combined with the recently developed discretisation framework for regularity structures arXiv:1511.06937, arXiv:1705.02836 to prove convergence of interacting particle systems to singular stochastic PDEs. A companion article titled "The dynamical Ising-Kac model in 3D converges to $Φ^4_3$" applies the results of this paper to prove convergence of a rescaled Glauber dynamics for the three-dimensional Ising-Kac model near criticality to the $Φ^4_3$ dynamics on a torus.

Acquire Driving Scenarios Efficiently: A Framework for Prospective Assessment of Cost-Optimal Scenario Acquisition

Scenario-based testing is becoming increasingly important in safety assurance for automated driving. However, comprehensive and sufficiently complete coverage of the scenario space requires significant effort and resources if using only real-world data. To address this issue, driving scenario generation methods are developed and used more frequently, but the benefit of substituting generated data for real-world data has not yet been quantified. Additionally, the coverage of a set of concrete scenarios within a given logical scenario space has not been predicted yet. This paper proposes a methodology to quantify the cost-optimal usage of scenario generation approaches to reach a certainly complete scenario space coverage under given quality constraints and parametrization. Therefore, individual process steps for scenario generation and usage are investigated and evaluated using a meta model for the abstraction of knowledge-based and data-driven methods. Furthermore, a methodology is proposed to fit the meta model including the prediction of reachable complete coverage, quality criteria, and costs. Finally, the paper exemplary examines the suitability of a hybrid generation model under technical, economical, and quality constraints in comparison to different real-world scenario mining methods.

Phase transition for invariant measures of the focusing Schr\"odinger equation

We consider the Gibbs measure for the focusing nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation on the one-dimensional torus $\mathbb T$, that was introduced in a seminal paper by Lebowitz, Rose and Speer (1988). We show that in the large torus limit, the measure exhibits a phase transition, depending on the size of the nonlinearity. This phase transition was originally conjectured on the basis of numerical simulation by Lebowitz, Rose and Speer (1988). Its existence is however striking in view of a series of negative results by McKean (1995) and Rider (2002).

Brownian particle in the curl of 2-d stochastic heat equations

We study the long time behaviour of a Brownian particle evolving in a dynamic random environment. Recently, [G. Cannizzaro, L. Haunschmid-Sibitz, F. Toninelli, preprint arXiv:2106.06264] proved sharp $\sqrt{log}$-super diffusive bounds for a Brownian particle in the curl of (a regularisation of) the 2-d Gaussian Free Field (GFF) $\underlineω$. We consider a one parameter family of Markovian and Gaussian dynamic environments which are reversible with respect to the law of $\underlineω$. Adapting their method, we show that if $s\ge1$, with $s=1$ corresponding to the standard stochastic heat equation, then the particle stays $\sqrt{log}$-super diffusive, whereas if $s<1$, corresponding to a fractional heat equation, then the particle becomes diffusive. In fact, for $s<1$, we show that this is a particular case of [T. Komorowski, S. Olla, J. Func. Anal., 2003], which yields an invariance principle through a Sector Condition result. Our main results agree with the Alder-Wainwright scaling argument (see [B. Alder, T. Wainright, Phys. Rev. Lett. 1967]) used originally in [B. Tóth, B. Valkó, J. Stat. Phys., 2012] to predict the $\log$-corrections to diffusivity. We also provide examples which display $log^a$-super diffusive behaviour for $a\in(0,1/2]$.

Optimal regularity in time and space for stochastic porous medium equations

We prove optimal regularity estimates in Sobolev spaces in time and space for solutions to stochastic porous medium equations. The noise term considered here is multiplicative, white in time and coloured in space. The coefficients are assumed to be Hölder continuous and the cases of smooth coefficients of at most linear growth as well as $\sqrt{u}$ are covered by our assumptions. The regularity obtained is consistent with the optimal regularity derived for the deterministic porous medium equation in [Gess 2020] and [Gess, Sauer, Tadmor 2020] and the presence of the temporal white noise. The proof relies on a significant adaptation of velocity averaging techniques from their usual $L^1$ context to the natural $L^2$ setting of the stochastic case. We introduce a new mixed kinetic/mild representation of solutions to quasilinear SPDE and use $L^2$ based a priori bounds to treat the stochastic term.

A priori bounds for rough differential equations with a non-linear damping term

We consider a rough differential equation with a non-linear damping drift term: \begin{align*} dY(t) = - |Y|^{m-1} Y(t) dt + σ(Y(t)) dX(t), \end{align*} where $X$ is a branched rough path of arbitrary regularity $α>0$, $m>1$ and where $σ$ is smooth and satisfies an $m$ and $α$-dependent growth property. We show a strong a priori bound for $Y$, which includes the "coming down from infinity" property, i.e. the bound on $Y(t)$ for a fixed $t>0$ holds uniformly over all choices of initial datum $Y(0)$. The method of proof builds on recent work by Chandra, Moinat and Weber on a priori bounds for the $ϕ^4$ SPDE in arbitrary subcritical dimension. A key new ingredient is an extension of the algebraic framework which permits to derive an estimate on higher order conditions of a coherent controlled rough path in terms of the regularity condition at lowest level.

Quasi-invariant Gaussian measures for the nonlinear wave equation in three dimensions

We prove quasi-invariance of Gaussian measures supported on Sobolev spaces under the dynamics of the three-dimensional defocusing cubic nonlinear wave equation. As in the previous work on the two-dimensional case, we employ a simultaneous renormalization on the energy functional and its time derivative. Two new ingredients in the three-dimensional case are (i) the construction of the weighted Gaussian measures, based on a variational formula for the partition function inspired by Barashkov and Gubinelli (2018), and (ii) an improved argument in controlling the growth of the truncated weighted Gaussian measures, where we combine a deterministic growth bound of solutions with stochastic estimates on random distributions.
