Level spectroscopy of the square-lattice three-state Potts model with a ferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor coupling

We study the square-lattice three-state Potts model with the ferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor coupling at finite temperature. Using the level-spectroscopy method, we numerically analyze the excitation spectrum of the transfer matrices and precisely determine the global phase diagram. Then we find that, contrary to a previous result based on the finite-size scaling, the massless region continues up to the decoupling point with ${\bf Z}_3\times{\bf Z}_3$ criticality in the antiferromagnetic region. We also check the universal relations among excitation levels to provide the reliability of our result.

Ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional Hubbard-model with an alternating potential

We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model with an alternating potential--a model for the charge-transfer organic materials and the ferroelectric perovskites. We numerically determine the global phase diagram of this model using the level-crossing and the phenomenological renormalization-group methods based on the exact diagonalization calculations. Our results support the mechanism of the double phase transitions between Mott and a band insulators pointed out by Fabrizio, Gogolin, and Nersesyan [Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 2014 (1999)]: We confirm the existence of the spontaneously dimerized phase as an intermediate state. Further we provide numerical evidences to check the criticalities on the phase boundaries. Especially, we perform the finite-size-scaling analysis of the excitation gap to show the two-dimensional Ising transition in the charge part. On the other hand, we confirm that the dimerized phase survives in the strong-coupling limit, which is one of the resultants of competition between the ionicity and correlation effects.

Quarter-filled extended Hubbard model with alternating transfer integral: Two-dimensional Ising transition in the ground state

We study the one-dimensional quarter-filled extended Hubbard model with an alternating transfer integral. In the strong-dimerization limit the charge part is described by the quantum Ising model which shows the two-dimensional Ising criticality at the self-dual point, and it is naturally connected to the double-frequency sine-Gordon theory in the weak dimerization. Treating low-lying excitations in finite-size systems, we numerically determine a phase boundary between two types of $4k_{\rm F}$ density-wave states and clarify the ground-state phase diagram. Further, we refer to its relevances to the charge-ordered phase observed in the charge-transfer organic salts.

Phase Diagram of the Square-Lattice Three-State Potts Antiferromagnet with Staggered Polarization Field

We study a square-lattice three-state Potts antiferromagnet with a staggered polarization field at finite temperature. Numerically treating the transfer matrices, we determine two phase boundaries separating the model-parameter space into three parts. We confirm that one of them belongs to the ferromagnetic three-state Potts criticality, which is in accord with a recent prediction, and another to the Ising type; these are both corresponding to the massless renormalization-group flows stemming from the Gaussian fixed points. We also discuss a field theory to describe the latter Ising transition.
