Cladding Layer Enhanced GHz Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonance in Sodium Niobate Thin Films on Silicon

Bulk acoustic wave resonators (BAWR) and bandpass filters operating at GHz frequency are the workhorse of (Vo-)LTE telecommunication and broadband internet. In line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030 for innovating environmentally friendly products, we fabricated lead-free BAWR with sodium niobate (NaNbO3) piezoelectric on silicon with a high electromechanical coupling factor up to 31.3% operating at ~4 GHz. We disclose our crucial strategy where the NaNbO3 layer is cladded between two thin layers of high band gap insulators, which satisfies two primary objectives, i.e. leakage current mitigation and crack avoidance. In addition, we also verified the efficacy of reducing lattice parameters of the cladding layers in promoting vertically distorted tetragonal phase NaNbO3 and producing stronger BAWR signals.

Ni-O hybridization-driven electronic reconstruction across the superconducting dome in an infinite-layer nickelate

Superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates has drawn wide interest as a cuprate analogue, yet how the electronic structure evolves with hole doping remains unsettled. Here we map the doping- and temperature-dependent unoccupied states of the La-based infinite-layer nickelate La1-xCaxNiO2 using O K-edge and Ni L-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy. Superconductivity occurs for 0.18<=x<=0.27. Near x~0.20-0.23, low-energy spectral weight redistributes: Ni3d-dominated states decrease while O2p-hybridized states increase, indicating an orbital-selective crossover in Ni-O covalency. This crossover coincides with a sign reversal of the Hall coefficient and precedes the reduction of the superconducting critical temperature at higher doping. By directly linking transport anomalies and the superconducting dome to a measurable Ni-O orbital reorganization, our results provide a key step toward a unified, orbital-resolved phase diagram for infinite-layer nickelates and a practical route to engineer superconductivity via hybridization control.

Hole-doped superconductivity above 100 K in infinite-layer cuprate thin films

Since the discovery of superconductivity in (La,Ba)2CuO2 (Ref.~\cite{bednorz1986possible}), a broad family of structurally distinct cuprate superconductors has been proposed or engineered to elucidate the physics of high-temperature superconductivity~\cite{chu2015hole,plakida2010high}. Among them, the infinite-layer cuprate has the simplest structure, consisting only of the essential ingredients for superconductivity: CuO$_2$ square planes separated by spacer ions~\cite{siegrist1988parent}. Despite being proposed nearly 40 years ago, the hole-doped superconductivity via chemical substitution in this compound has not yet been achieved, a fundamental open question in the field. Here, we report the observation of superconductivity in the hole-doped infinite-layer cuprate thin film. Measurements of resistivity and magnetic-field response in Sr1-xRbxCuO2 single-crystal thin films show superconducting transitions with a high onset temperature of 100 K. Hole doping is achieved via the synergistic effect of rubidium substitution and apical oxygen incorporation, as evidenced by structural analysis and transport measurements. As the parent structure of the cuprate family~\cite{chu2015hole}, hole-doped infinite-layer cuprate provides a unique platform for revisiting key puzzles in cuprate superconductors~\cite{keimer2015quantum,tsuei2000pairing,armitage2010progress,dagotto1994correlated}, including strange metal~\cite{proust2019remarkable,taillefer2010scattering} and electron-hole symmetry~\cite{tohyama2004asymmetry,segawa2010zero,lee2014asymmetry}, while bridging to cuprate-nickelate symmetry~\cite{li2019superconductivity,zeng2022superconductivity,chow2025bulk,lechermann2020late}.

Ideal antiferroelectricity with large digital electrostrain in PbZrO3 epitaxial thin films

Antiferroelectrics exhibit reversible antipolar-polar phase transitions under electric fields, yielding large electrostrain suitable for electromechanical devices. Nevertheless, in thin-film form, the antiferroelectric behavior is often obscured by competing ferroic orders, resulting in slanted hysteresis loops with undesired remnant polarization, subsequently posing challenges in obtaining ideal antiferroelectricity and understanding their intrinsic electrical behavior. Here, atomistic models for controllable antiferroelectric-ferroelectric phase transition pathways are unveiled along specific crystallographic directions. Guided by the anisotropic phase transition and orientation design, we achieved ideal antiferroelectricity with square double hysteresis loop, large saturated polarization (~60 μC/cm2), near-zero remnant polarization, fast response time (~75 ns), and near-fatigue-free performance (~10^10 cycles) in (111)P-oriented PbZrO3 epitaxial thin films. Moreover, a bipolar and frequency-independent digital electrostrain (~0.83%) were demonstrated in this architype antiferroelectric system. In-situ X-ray diffraction studies further reveal that the large digital electrostrain results from intrinsic field-induced antiferroelectric-ferroelectric structural transition. This work demonstrates the anisotropic phase transition mechanism and ideal antiferroelectricity with large digital electrostrain in antiferroelectric thin films, offering a new avenue for applications of antiferroelectricity in nanoelectromechanical systems.

BHViT: Binarized Hybrid Vision Transformer

Model binarization has made significant progress in enabling real-time and energy-efficient computation for convolutional neural networks (CNN), offering a potential solution to the deployment challenges faced by Vision Transformers (ViTs) on edge devices. However, due to the structural differences between CNN and Transformer architectures, simply applying binary CNN strategies to the ViT models will lead to a significant performance drop. To tackle this challenge, we propose BHViT, a binarization-friendly hybrid ViT architecture and its full binarization model with the guidance of three important observations. Initially, BHViT utilizes the local information interaction and hierarchical feature aggregation technique from coarse to fine levels to address redundant computations stemming from excessive tokens. Then, a novel module based on shift operations is proposed to enhance the performance of the binary Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) module without significantly increasing computational overhead. In addition, an innovative attention matrix binarization method based on quantization decomposition is proposed to evaluate the token's importance in the binarized attention matrix. Finally, we propose a regularization loss to address the inadequate optimization caused by the incompatibility between the weight oscillation in the binary layers and the Adam Optimizer. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm achieves SOTA performance among binary ViT methods.

Critical Current Density and AC Magnetic Susceptibility of High-quality FeTe$_{0.5}$Se$_{0.5}$ Superconducting Tapes

Iron telluride-selenium superconducting materials, known for their non-toxicity, ease of preparation, simple structure, and high upper critical fields, have attracted much research interest in practical application. In this work, we conducted electrical transport measurements, magneto-optical imaging, and AC magnetic susceptibility measurements on FeTe$_{0.5}$Se$_{0.5}$ superconducting long tapes fabricated via reel-to-reel pulsed laser deposition. Our transport measurements revealed a high critical current density that remains relatively stable even with increasing external magnetic fields, reaching over $1\times 10^5$ A/cm$^2$ at 8 K and 9 T. The calculated pinning force density indicates that normal point pinning is the primary mechanism in these tapes. The magneto-optical images demonstrated that the tapes show homogeneous superconductivity and uniform distribution of critical current density. The AC magnetic susceptibility measurements also confirmed their strong flux pinning nature of withstanding high magnetic field. Based on these characteristics, FeTe$_{0.5}$Se$_{0.5}$ superconducting tapes show promising prospects for applications under high magnetic fields.

CMOS-compatible photonic integrated circuits on thin-film ScAlN

Scandium aluminum nitride (ScAlN) has recently emerged as an attractive material for integrated photonics due to its favorable nonlinear optical properties and compatibility with CMOS fabrication. Despite the promising and versatile material properties, it is still an outstanding challenge to realize low-loss photonic circuits on thin-film ScAlN-on-insulator wafers. Here, we present a systematic study on the material quality of sputtered thin-film ScAlN produced in a CMOS-compatible 200 mm line, and an optimized fabrication process to yield 400 nm thick, fully etched waveguides. With surface polishing and annealing, we achieve micro-ring resonators with an intrinsic quality factor as high as $1.47\times 10^5$, corresponding to a propagation loss of 2.4 dB/cm. These results serve as a critical step towards developing future large-scale, low-loss photonic integrated circuits based on ScAlN.

On the origin of topotactic reduction effect for superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates

Topotactic reduction utilizing metal hydrides as reagents emerges as an effective approach to achieve exceptionally low oxidization states of metal ions and unconventional coordination networks. This method opens avenues to the development of entirely new functional materials, with one notable example being the infinite-layer nickelate superconductors. However, the reduction effect on the atomic reconstruction and electronic structures -- crucial for superconductivity -- remains largely unresolved. We design two sets of control Nd$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$NiO$_2$ thin films and implement secondary ion mass spectroscopy to highlight the absence of reduction-induced hydrogen intercalation. X-ray absorption spectroscopy shows a significant linear dichroism with dominant Ni 3d$_{x2{-}y2}$ orbitals on superconducting samples, indicating a Ni single-band nature of infinite-layer nickelates. Consistent with the superconducting $T_c$, the Ni 3d orbitals asymmetry manifests a dome-like reduction duration dependence. Our results unveil the critical role of reduction in modulating the Ni-3d orbital polarization and its impact on the superconducting properties.

Reply to: Mobility overestimation in MoS$_2$ transistors due to invasive voltage probes

In this reply, we include new experimental results and verify that the observed non-linearity in rippled-MoS$_2$ (leading to mobility kink) is an intrinsic property of a disordered system, rather than contact effects (invasive probes) or other device issues. Noting that Peng Wu's hypothesis is based on a highly ordered ideal system, transfer curves are expected to be linear, and the carrier density is assumed be constant. Wu's model is therefore oversimplified for disordered systems and neglects carrier-density dependent scattering physics. Thus, it is fundamentally incompatible with our rippled-MoS$_2$, and leads to the wrong conclusion.

Graph Gain: A Concave-Hull Based Volumetric Gain for Robotic Exploration

The existing volumetric gain for robotic exploration is calculated in the 3D occupancy map, while the sampling-based exploration method is extended in the reachable (free) space. The inconsistency between them makes the existing calculation of volumetric gain inappropriate for a complete exploration of the environment. To address this issue, we propose a concave-hull based volumetric gain in a sampling-based exploration framework. The concave hull is constructed based on the viewpoints generated by Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT) and the nodes that fail to expand. All space outside this concave hull is considered unknown. The volumetric gain is calculated based on the viewpoints configuration rather than using the occupancy map. With the new volumetric gain, robots can avoid inefficient or even erroneous exploration behavior caused by the inappropriateness of existing volumetric gain calculation methods. Our exploration method is evaluated against the existing state-of-the-art RRT-based method in a benchmark environment. In the evaluated environment, the average running time of our method is about 38.4% of the existing state-of-the-art method and our method is more robust.

High-performance Ba1-xKxFe2As2 superconducting joints for persistent current operation

Superconducting joints are one of the key technologies to make Ba1-xKxFe2As2 (Ba-122) superconducting wires or tapes for high-field applications. Herein, superconducting joints were fabricated by a simple cold-pressing method, and the joint resistance of the iron-based superconducting joint was estimated for the first time. The superconducting properties, microstructures, and elements distribution in the joint regions were investigated. At 4.2 K and 10 T, a transport critical current Ic of 105 A for the joint was obtained, and the critical current ratio (CCR= Ic-joint/Ic-tape) of the joint was 94.6%. On the other hand, the joint show very low joint resistance of 2.7x10^-13 ohm in self-field at 4.2 K. Among iron-based superconductors (IBS), this work is the first to successfully realize a superconducting joint with such high CCR and low joint resistance. This work shows great potential to apply Ba-122 in a range of practical applications, where superconducting joints are essential.

Polarized Self-Attention: Towards High-quality Pixel-wise Regression

Pixel-wise regression is probably the most common problem in fine-grained computer vision tasks, such as estimating keypoint heatmaps and segmentation masks. These regression problems are very challenging particularly because they require, at low computation overheads, modeling long-range dependencies on high-resolution inputs/outputs to estimate the highly nonlinear pixel-wise semantics. While attention mechanisms in Deep Convolutional Neural Networks(DCNNs) has become popular for boosting long-range dependencies, element-specific attention, such as Nonlocal blocks, is highly complex and noise-sensitive to learn, and most of simplified attention hybrids try to reach the best compromise among multiple types of tasks. In this paper, we present the Polarized Self-Attention(PSA) block that incorporates two critical designs towards high-quality pixel-wise regression: (1) Polarized filtering: keeping high internal resolution in both channel and spatial attention computation while completely collapsing input tensors along their counterpart dimensions. (2) Enhancement: composing non-linearity that directly fits the output distribution of typical fine-grained regression, such as the 2D Gaussian distribution (keypoint heatmaps), or the 2D Binormial distribution (binary segmentation masks). PSA appears to have exhausted the representation capacity within its channel-only and spatial-only branches, such that there is only marginal metric differences between its sequential and parallel layouts. Experimental results show that PSA boosts standard baselines by $2-4$ points, and boosts state-of-the-arts by $1-2$ points on 2D pose estimation and semantic segmentation benchmarks.

DeepDA: LSTM-based Deep Data Association Network for Multi-Targets Tracking in Clutter

The Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network based data association algorithm named as DeepDA for multi-target tracking in clutters is proposed to deal with the NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem in this paper. Different from the classical data association methods involving complex models and accurate prior knowledge on clutter density, filter covariance or associated gating etc, data-driven deep learning methods have been extensively researched for this topic. Firstly, data association mathematical problem for multitarget tracking on unknown target number, missed detection and clutter, which is beyond one-to-one mapping between observations and targets is redefined formally. Subsequently, an LSTM network is designed to learn the measurement-to-track association probability from radar noisy measurements and exist tracks. Moreover, an LSTM-based data-driven deep neural network after a supervised training through the BPTT and RMSprop optimization method can get the association probability directly. Experimental results on simulated data show a significant performance on association ratio, target ID switching and time-consuming for tracking multiple targets even they are crossing each other in the complicated clutter environment.

Unit cell determination of epitaxial thin films based on reciprocal space vectors by high-resolution X-ray diffractometry

A new approach, based on reciprocal space vectors (RSVs), is developed to determine Bravais lattice types and accurate lattice parameters of epitaxial thin films by high-resolution X-ray diffractometry (HR-XRD). The lattice parameters of single crystal substrates are employed as references to correct the systematic experimental errors of RSVs of thin films. The general procedure is summarized, involving correction of RSVs, derivation of raw unit cell, subsequent conversion to the Niggli unit cell and the Bravais unit cell by matrix calculation. Two methods of this procedure are described in 3D reciprocal space and 6D G6-space, respectively. The estimation of standard error in the lattice parameters derived by this new approach is discussed. The whole approach is illustrated by examples of experimental data. The error of the best result is 0.0006 Å for the lattice parameter of ITO (Indium tin oxide) film. This new RSV method provides a practical and concise route to crystal structure study of epitaxial thin films, which could also be applied to the investigation of surface and interface structures.

Comparison and Analysis of Twist Pitch Length Test Methods for ITER Nb3Sn and NbTi Strands

A twisted multifilamentary structure is needed for Nb3Sn and NbTi strands to be used in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) magnets. As important parameters for the superconducting strands design and production, the twist pitch length and direction of strands must meet the requirements according to ITER Procurement Arrangement (PA) and this must be verified. The technical requirements are 15mm+/-2mm for twist pitch length and right hand twist for direction. The strand twist pitch and the twist direction can be measured on straight sections of strand, which is recognized by the repetition of filament bundles or by the angle of the filaments. Several test methods and results are described and compared in this paper. The accuracy, uncertainty and feasibility of different methods are analyzed and recommended measurement methods are proposed for ITER strands verification.
