Monolayer black phosphorus (MBP) is an interesting emerging electronic material with a direct band gap and relatively high carrier mobility. In this work we report a theoretical investigation of nonequilibrium spin injection and spin-polarized quantum transport in MBP from ferromagnetic Ni contacts, in two-dimensional magnetic tunneling structures. We investigate physical properties such as the spin injection efficiency, the tunnel magnetoresistance ratio, spin-polarized currents, charge currents and transmission coefficients as a function of external bias voltage, for two different device contact structures where MBP is contacted by Ni(111) and by Ni(100). While both structures are predicted to give respectable spin-polarized quantum transport, the Ni(100)/MBP/Ni(100) trilayer has the superior properties where the spin injection and magnetoresistance ratio maintains almost a constant value against the bias voltage. The nonequilibrium quantum transport phenomenon is understood by analyzing the transmission spectrum at nonequilibrium.
Feynman loop integrals are a key ingredient for the calculation of higher order radiation effects, and are responsible for reliable and accurate theoretical prediction. We improve the efficiency of numerical integration in sector decomposition by implementing a quasi-Monte Carlo method associated with the CUDA/GPU technique. For demonstration we present the results of several Feynman integrals up to two loops in both Euclidean and physical kinematic regions in comparison with those obtained from FIESTA3. It is shown that both planar and non-planar two-loop master integrals in the physical kinematic region can be evaluated in less than half a minute with $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$ accuracy, which makes the direct numerical approach viable for precise investigation of higher order effects in multi-loop processes, e.g. the next-to-leading order QCD effect in Higgs pair production via gluon fusion with a finite top quark mass.
We study the problem of recovering sparse signals from compressed linear measurements. This problem, often referred to as sparse recovery or sparse reconstruction, has generated a great deal of interest in recent years. To recover the sparse signals, we propose a new method called multiple orthogonal least squares (MOLS), which extends the well-known orthogonal least squares (OLS) algorithm by allowing multiple $L$ indices to be chosen per iteration. Owing to inclusion of multiple support indices in each selection, the MOLS algorithm converges in much fewer iterations and improves the computational efficiency over the conventional OLS algorithm. Theoretical analysis shows that MOLS ($L > 1$) performs exact recovery of all $K$-sparse signals within $K$ iterations if the measurement matrix satisfies the restricted isometry property (RIP) with isometry constant $δ_{LK} < \frac{\sqrt{L}}{\sqrt{K} + 2 \sqrt{L}}.$ The recovery performance of MOLS in the noisy scenario is also studied. It is shown that stable recovery of sparse signals can be achieved with the MOLS algorithm when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) scales linearly with the sparsity level of input signals.
HfTe5 is predicted to be a promising platform for studying topological phases. Here through an electrical transport study, we present the first observation of chiral anomaly and ultrahigh mobility in HfTe5 crystals. Negative magneto-resistivity in HfTe5 is observed when the external magnetic and electrical fields are parallel (B//E) and quickly disappears once B deviates from the direction of E. Quantitative fitting further confirms the chiral anomaly as the underlying physics. Moreover, by analyzing the conductivity tensors of longitudinal and Hall traces, ultrahigh mobility and ultralow carrier density are revealed in HfTe5, which paves the way for potential electronic applications.
The cross-media retrieval problem has received much attention in recent years due to the rapid increasing of multimedia data on the Internet. A new approach to the problem has been raised which intends to match features of different modalities directly. In this research, there are two critical issues: how to get rid of the heterogeneity between different modalities and how to match the cross-modal features of different dimensions. Recently metric learning methods show a good capability in learning a distance metric to explore the relationship between data points. However, the traditional metric learning algorithms only focus on single-modal features, which suffer difficulties in addressing the cross-modal features of different dimensions. In this paper, we propose a cross-modal similarity learning algorithm for the cross-modal feature matching. The proposed method takes a bilinear formulation, and with the nuclear-norm penalization, it achieves low-rank representation. Accordingly, the accelerated proximal gradient algorithm is successfully imported to find the optimal solution with a fast convergence rate O(1/t^2). Experiments on three well known image-text cross-media retrieval databases show that the proposed method achieves the best performance compared to the state-of-the-art algorithms.
The discovery of graphene has ignited intensive investigation on two dimensional (2D) materials. Among them, transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC), a typical representative, attracts much attention due to the excellent performance in field effect transistor (FET) related measurements and applications. Particularly, when TMDC eventually reaches few-layer dimension, a wide range of electronic and optical properties, in striking contrast to bulk samples, are detected. In this Letter, we synthesized single crystalline WS2 nanoflakes by physical vapor deposition (PVD) method and carried out a series of transport measurements of contact resistance and magnetoresistance. Focused ion beam (FIB) technology was applied to deposit Pt electrodes on WS2 flakes. Different from the electron beam lithography (EBL) fabricated electrodes, FIB-deposited leads exhibited ohmic contact, resolving the dilemma of Schottky barrier. Furthermore, a temperature-modulated negative-to-positive transition of magnetoresistance (MR) associated with a crossover of carrier type at similar temperature was demonstrated. Our work offers a pathway to optimize the contact for TMDC and reveals the magnetoresistance characteristics of WS2 flakes, which may stimulate further studies on TMDC and corresponding potential electronic and optoelectronic applications.
For an unattended telescopes in Antarctic, the remote operation, autonomous observation and control are essential. An EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) and RTS2(Remote Telescope System, 2nd Version) based autonomous observation and control system with remoted operation is introduced in this paper. EPICS is a set of Open Source software tools, libraries and applications developed collaboratively and used worldwide to create distributed soft real-time control systems for scientific instruments while RTS2 is an open source environment for control of a fully autonomous observatory. Using the advantage of EPICS and RTS2 respectively, a combined integrated software framework for autonomous observation and control is established that use RTS2 to fulfill the function of astronomical observation and use EPICS to fulfill the device control of telescope. A command and status interface for EPICS and RTS2 is designed to make the EPICS IOC (Input/Output Controller) components integrate to RTS2 directly. For the specification and requirement of control system of telescope in Antarctic, core components named Executor and Auto-focus for autonomous observation is designed and implemented with remote operation user interface based on Browser-Server mode. The whole system including the telescope is tested in Lijiang Observatory in Yunnan Province for practical observation to complete the autonomous observation and control, including telescope control, camera control, dome control, weather information acquisition with the local and remote operation.
In a hybrid quantum network, linking two kinds of quantum nodes through photonic channels requires excellent matching of central frequency and bandwidth between both nodes and their interfacing photons. However, pre-existing photon sources can not fulfill this requirement. Using a novel conjoined double-cavity strategy, we report the generation of nondegenerate narrow-band photon pairs by cavity-enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion. The central frequencies and bandwidths of the signal and idler photons are independently set to match with trapped ions and solid-state quantum memories. With this source we achieve the bandwidths and central frequencies of 4 MHz at 935 nm and 5 MHz at 880 nm for the signal and idler photons respectively, with a normalized spectrum brightness of 4.9/s/MHz/mW. Due to the ability of being independently locked to two different wavelenghts, the conjoined double-cavity is universally suitable for hybrid quantum network consisting of various quantum nodes.
We present theoretical predictions for mono-$Z$ production in the search for dark matter in Run-II at the LHC, including next-to-leading order QCD corrections and parton-shower effects. We consider generic simplified models with vector and scalar $s$-channel mediators. The calculation is performed by implementing the simplified models in the FeynRules/MadGraph5_aMC@NLO framework, which allows us to include higher-order QCD corrections and parton-shower effects in an automated way. We find that these corrections are sizeable and help to reduce the theoretical uncertainties. We also investigate the discovery potential in several benchmark scenarios in the 13 TeV run at the LHC.
We prove that a general (not necessarily symmetric) Lévy process killed on exiting a bounded open set (without regular condition on the boundary) is intrinsically ultracontractive, provided that $B(0,R_0)\subseteq \rm{supp}(ν)$ for some constant $R_0>0$, where $\rm{supp}(ν)$ denotes the support of the associated Lévy measure $ν$. For a symmetric Lévy process killed on exiting a bounded Hölder domain of order $0$, we also obtain the intrinsic ultracontractivity under much weaker assumption on the associated Lévy measure.
By making full use of heat kernel estimates, we establish the integral tests on the zero-one laws of upper and lower bounds for the sample path ranges of symmetric Markov processes. In particular, these results concerning on upper rate bounds are applicable for local and non-local Dirichlet forms, while lower rate bounds are investigated in both subcritical setting and critical setting.
This paper is concerned with a class of singular stable-like Dirichlet forms on $\R^d$, which are generated by $d$ independent copies of a one-dimensional symmetric $α$-stable process, and whose Lévy jump kernel measure is concentrated on the union of the coordinate axes. Explicit and sharp criteria for Poincaré inequality, super Poincaré inequality and weak Poincaré inequality of such singular Dirichlet forms are presented. When the reference measure is a product measure on $\R^d$, we also consider the entropy inequality for the associated Dirichlet forms, which is similar to the log-Sobolev inequality for local Dirichlet forms, and enjoys the tensorisation property.
We present a precise theoretical prediction for the signal-background interference process of $gg(\to h^*) \to ZZ$, which is useful to constrain the Higgs boson decay width and to measure Higgs couplings to the SM particles. The approximate NNLO $K$-factor is in the range of $2.05-2.45$ ($1.85-2.25$), depending on $M_{ZZ}$, at the 8 (13) TeV LHC. And the soft gluon resummation can increase the approximate NNLO result by about $10\%$ at both the 8 TeV and 13 TeV LHC. The theoretical uncertainties including the scale, uncalculated multi-loop amplitudes of the background and PDF$+α_s$ are roughly $\mathcal{O}(10\%)$ at ${\rm NNLL'}$. We also confirm that the approximate $K$-factors in the interference and the pure signal processes are the same.
Kerr frequency combs from microresonators are now extensively investigated as a potentially portable technology for a variety of applications. Most studies employ anomalous dispersion microresonators that support modulational instability for comb initiation, and mode-locking transitions resulting in coherent bright soliton-like pulse generation have been reported. However, some experiments show comb generation in normal dispersion microresonators; simulations suggest the formation of dark pulse temporal profiles. Excitation of dark pulse solutions is difficult due to the lack of modulational instability in the effective blue-detuned pumping region; an excitation pathway has been demonstrated neither in experiment nor in simulation. Here we report experiments in which dark pulse combs are formed by mode-interaction-aided excitation; for the first time, a mode-locking transition is observed in the normal dispersion regime. The excitation pathway proposed is also supported by simulations.
Interface-enhanced high-temperature superconductivity in one unit-cell (UC) FeSe film on SrTiO3(001) (STO) substrate has recently attracted much attention in condensed matter physics and material science. Here, by ex situ transport measurements, we report on the superconductivity in FeSe ultra-thin films with different thickness on STO substrate. We find that the onset superconducting transition temperature (Tc) decreases with increasing film thickness of FeSe, which is opposite to the behavior usually observed in traditional superconductor films. By systematic post-annealing of 5 UC FeSe films, we observe an insulator to superconductor transition, which is accompanied with a sign change of the dominated charge carriers from holes to electrons at low temperatures according to the corresponding Hall measurement.
We report on the injection of quantized pure spin current into quantum conductors. In particular, we propose an on demand single spin source generated by periodically varying the gate voltages of two quantum dots that are connected to a two dimensional topological insulator via tunneling barriers. Due to the nature of the helical states of the topological insulator, one or several {\it spin pair}s can be pumped out per cycle giving rise to a pure quantized alternating spin current. Depending on the phase difference between two gate voltages, this device can serve as an on demand single spin emitter or single charge emitter. Again due to the helicity of the topological insulator, the single spin emitter or charge emitter is dissipationless and immune to disorders. The proposed single spin emitter can be an important building block of future spintronic devices.
We present a high-quality, bias-free quantum random number generator (QRNG) using photon arrival time selectively in accordance with the number of photon detection events within a sampling time interval in attenuated light. It is well showed in both theoretical analysis and experiments verification that this random number production method eliminates both bias and correlation perfectly without more post processing and the random number can clearly pass the standard randomness tests. We fulfill theoretical analysis and experimental verification of the method whose rate can reach up to 45Mbps.
