Leptonic mono-top from single stop production at LHC

Top squark (stop) can be produced via QCD interaction but also the electroweak interaction at the LHC. In this paper, we investigate the observability of the associated production of stop and chargino, $pp \to \tilde{t}_1\tildeχ^-_1$, in compressed electroweakino scenario at the 14 TeV LHC. Due to the small mass-splitting between the lightest neutralino ($\tildeχ^0_1$) and chargino ($\tildeχ^-_1$), such a single stop production can give a mono-top signature through the stop decay $\tilde{t}_1 \to t \tildeχ^0_1$. Focusing on the leptonic mono-top channel, we propose a lab-frame observable $\cosθ_{b\ell}$ to reduce the SM backgrounds in virtue of a boosted top quark from the stop decay. We find that the single stop production can be probed at $2σ$ level at the HL-LHC for $m_{\tilde{t}_1}<760$ GeV and $m_{\tildeχ^0_1}<150$ GeV.

Top-squark in natural SUSY under current LHC run-2 data

We utilize the recent LHC-13 TeV data to study the lower mass bound on top-squark (stop) in natural supersymmetry. We recast the LHC sparticle inclusive search of $(\ge 1){\rm jets} + E^{miss}_T$ with $α_T$ variable, the direct stop pair search (1-lepton channel and all-hadronic channel) and the monojet analyses. We find that these searches are complementary depending on stop and higgsino masses: for a heavy stop the all-hadronic stop pair search provides the strongest bound, for an intermediate stop the inclusive SUSY analysis with $α_T$ variable is most efficient, while for a compressed stop-higgsino scenario the monojet search plays the key role. Finally, the lower mass bound on a stop is: (i) 320 GeV for compressed stop-higgsino scenario (mass splitting less than 20 GeV); (ii) 765 (860) GeV for higgsinos lighter than 300 (100) GeV.

Probing a pseudoscalar at the LHC in light of $R(D^{(*)})$ and muon g-2 excesses

We study the excesses of $R(D^{(*)})$ and muon $g-2$ in the framework of a two-Higgs-doublet model with top quark flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) couplings. Considering the relevant theoretical and experimental constraints, we find that the $R(D^{(*)})$ and muon $g-2$ excesses can be simultaneously explained in a parameter space allowed by the constraints. In such a parameter space the pseudoscalar ($A$) has a mass between 20 GeV and 150 GeV so that it can be produced from the top quark FCNC decay $t\to A c$. Focusing on its dominant decay $A\to τ\barτ$, we perform a detailed simulation on $pp\to t\bar{t}\to Wb Ac\to jjbcτ\barτ$ and find that the $2σ$ upper limits from a data set of 30 (100) fb$^{-1}$ at the 13 TeV LHC can mostly (entirely) exclude such a parameter space.

750 GeV Diphoton Resonance, 125 GeV Higgs and Muon g-2 Anomaly in Deflected Anomaly Mediation SUSY Breaking Scenario

We propose to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton excess in deflected anomaly mediation supersymmetry breaking scenarios, which can naturally predict couplings between a singlet field and vector-like messengers. The CP-even scalar component (S) of the singlet field can serve as the 750 GeV resonance. The messenger scale, which is of order the gravitino scale, can be as light as F_ϕ\sim {\cal O}(10) TeV when the messenger species N_F and the deflection parameter d are moderately large. Such messengers can induce the large loop decay process S \to γγ. Our results show that such a scenario can successfully accommodate the 125 GeV Higgs boson, the 750 GeV diphoton excess and the muon g-2 without conflicting with the LHC constraints. We also comment on the possible explanations in the gauge mediation supersymmetry breaking scenario.

The Maximal $U(1)_L$ Inverse Seesaw from $d=5$ Operator and Oscillating Asymmetric Sneutrino Dark Matter

The maximal $U(1)_L$ supersymmetric inverse seesaw mechanism (M$L$SIS) provides a natural way to relate asymmetric dark matter (ADM) with neutrino physics. In this paper we point out that, M$L$SIS is a natural outcome if one dynamically realizes the inverse seesaw mechanism in the next-to minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) via the dimension-five operator $(N)^2S^2/M_*$, with $S$ the NMSSM singlet developing TeV scale VEV; it slightly violates lepton number due to the suppression by the fundamental scale $M_*$, thus preserving $U(1)_L$ maximally. The resulting sneutrino is a distinguishable ADM candidate, oscillating and favored to have weak scale mass. A fairly large annihilating cross section of such a heavy ADM is available due to the presence of singlet.

Radiative natural SUSY spectrum from deflected AMSB scenario with messenger-matter interactions

A radiative natural SUSY spectrum are proposed in the deflected anomaly mediation scenario with general messenger-matter interactions. Due to the contributions from the new interactions, positive slepton masses as well as a large |A_t| term can naturally be obtained with either sign of deflection parameter and few messenger species (thus avoid the possible Landau pole problem). In this scenario, in contrast to the ordinary (radiative) natural SUSY scenario with under-abundance of dark matter (DM), the DM can be the mixed bino-higgsino and have the right relic density. The 125 GeV Higgs mass can also be easily obtained in our scenario. The majority of low EW fine tuning points can be covered by the XENON-1T direct detection experiments.

SUSY effects in $R_b$: revisited under current experimental constraints

In this note we revisit the SUSY effects in $R_b$ under current experimental constraints including the LHC Higgs data, the $B$-physics measurements, the dark matter relic density and direct detection limits, as well as the precision electroweak data. We first perform a scan to figure out the currently allowed parameter space and then display the SUSY effects in $R_b$. We find that although the SUSY parameter space has been severely restrained by current experimental data, both the general MSSM and the natural-SUSY scenario can still alter $R_b$ with a magnitude sizable enough to be observed at future $Z$-factories (ILC, CEPC, FCC-ee, Super $Z$-factory) which produce $10^9-10^{12}$ $Z$-bosons. To be specific, assuming a precise measurement $δR_b = 2.0 \times 10^{-5}$ at FCC-ee, we can probe a right-handed stop up to 530 GeV through chargino-stop loops, probe a sbottom to 850 GeV through neutralino-sbottom loops and a charged Higgs to 770 GeV through the Higgs-top quark loops for a large $\text{tan}β$. The full one-loop SUSY correction to $R_b$ can reach $1 \times 10^{-4}$ in natural SUSY and $2 \times 10^{-4}$ in the general MSSM.

Explaining 750 GeV diphoton excess from top/bottom partner cascade decay in two-Higgs-doublet model extension

In this paper, we interpret the 750 GeV diphoton excess in the Zee-Babu extension of the two-Higgs-doublet model by introducing a top partner ($T$)/bottom partner ($B$). In the alignment limit, the 750 GeV resonance is identified as the heavy CP-even Higgs boson ($H$), which can be sizably produced via the QCD process $pp \to T\bar{T}$ or $pp \to B\bar{B}$ followed by the decay $T\to Ht$ or $B \to Hb$. The diphoton decay rate of $H$ is greatly enhanced by the charged singlet scalars predicted in the Zee-Babu extension and the total width of $H$ can be as large as 7 GeV. Under the current LHC constraints, we scan the parameter space and find that such an extension can account for the observed diphoton excess.

750 GeV diphoton resonance in a top and bottom seesaw model

The top/bottom seesaw model, which extends the top seesaw in order to accomodate a 125 GeV Higgs boson, predicts vector-like top/bottom partners and these partners can be bounded to form several neutral and charged singlet composite scalars by some new strong dynamics. In this letter, we use such a singlet scalar to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton reseanance. This singlet scalar is dominantly produced through the gluon fusion process induced by the partners and its diphoton decay is induced by both the partners and the charged singlet scalars. We show that this scenario can readily account for the observed 750 GeV diphoton signal under the current LHC constraints. Further, this scenario predicts some other phenomenology, such as a strong correlation between the decays to $γγ$, $Z γ$ and $ZZ$, a three-photon singal from the associate production of a singlet scalar and a photon, as well as some signals from the partner cascade decays. These signals may jointly allow for a test of this framework in future LHC and ILC experiments.

Collider Signatures of Higgs-portal Scalar Dark Matter

In the simplest Higgs-portal scalar dark matter model, the dark matter mass has been restricted to be either near the resonant mass ($m_h/2$) or in a large-mass region by the direct detection at LHC Run 1 and LUX. While the large-mass region below roughly 3 TeV can be probed by the future Xenon1T experiment, most of the resonant mass region is beyond the scope of Xenon1T. In this paper, we study the direct detection of such scalar dark matter in the narrow resonant mass region at the 14 TeV LHC and the future 100 TeV hadron collider. We show the luminosities required for the $2σ$ exclusion and $5σ$ discovery.

Closing up a light stop window in natural SUSY at LHC

Top squark (stop) plays a key role in the radiative stability of the Higgs boson mass in supersymmetry (SUSY). The LHC searches for stop have made a great progress and tightly constrained the stop mass during Run-1. In this work, we use the LHC Run-1 data to determine the lower mass limit of the right-handed stop in a natural SUSY scenario, where the higgsinos $\tildeχ^0_{1,2}$ and $\tildeχ^\pm_{1}$ are light and nearly degenerate. We find that the stop mass has been excluded up to 430 GeV for $m_{\tildeχ^0_1} \lesssim 250$ GeV and to 540 GeV for $m_{\tildeχ^0_1} \simeq 100$ GeV by the Run-1 SUSY searches for $2b+E^{miss}_T$ and $1\ell+jets+E^{miss}_T$, respectively. In a small strip of parameter space with $m_{\tildeχ^0_1} \gtrsim 190$ GeV, the stop mass can still be as light as 210 GeV and compatible with the Higgs mass measurement and the monojet bound. The 14 TeV LHC with a luminosity of 20 fb$^{-1}$ can further cover such a light stop window by monojet and $2b+E^{miss}_T$ searches and push the lower bound of the stop mass to 710 GeV. We also explore the potential to use the Higgs golden ratio, $D_{γγ}=σ(pp \to h \to γγ)/σ(pp \to h \to ZZ^* \to4\ell^\pm)$, as a complementary probe for the light and compressed stop. If this golden ratio can be measured at percent level at the high luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) or future $e^+e^-$ colliders, the light stop can be excluded for most of the currently allowed parameter region.

Interpreting the 750 GeV diphoton excess by the singlet extension of the Manohar-Wise Model

The evidence of a new scalar particle $X$ from the 750 GeV diphoton excess, and the absence of any other signal of new physics at the LHC so far suggest the existence of new colored scalars, which may be moderately light and thus can induce sizable $X g g$ and $X γγ$ couplings without resorting to very strong interactions. Motivated by this speculation, we extend the Manohar-Wise model by adding one gauge singlet scalar field. The resulting theory then predicts one singlet dominated scalar $ϕ$ as well as three kinds of color-octet scalars, which can mediate through loops the $ϕgg$ and $ϕγγ$ interactions. After fitting the model to the diphoton data at the LHC, we find that in reasonable parameter regions the excess can be explained at $1σ$ level by the process $ g g \to ϕ\to γγ$, and the best points predict the central value of the excess rate with $χ_{min}^2=2.32$, which corresponds to a $p$-value of $0.68$. We also consider the constraints from various LHC Run I signals, and we conclude that, although these constraints are powerful in excluding the parameter space of the model, the best points are still experimentally allowed.

Single top squark production as a probe of natural supersymmetry at the LHC

Light top squarks (stops) and light higgsinos are the key features of natural SUSY, where the higgsinos $\tildeχ^{\pm}_{1}$ and $\tildeχ^0_{1,2}$ are nearly degenerate and act as the missing transverse energy ($E^{miss}_T$) at the LHC. Besides the strong production, the stop can be produced via the electroweak interaction. The determination of the electroweak properties of the stop is an essential task for the LHC and future colliders. So in this paper, we investigate the single stop ($\tilde{t}_1$) production $pp \to \tilde{t}_1+ E^{miss}_T$ in the natural SUSY at the LHC, which gives the monotop signature $t+ E^{miss}_T$ from $\tilde{t}_1\to t \tildeχ^0_{1,2}$ or the monobottom signature $b+ E^{miss}_T$ from $\tilde{t}_1 \to b \tildeχ^+_{1}$. We perform Monte Carlo simulations for these signatures and obtain the results: (1) The signal $b+ E^{miss}_T$ has a better sensitivity than $t+ E^{miss}_T$ for probing natural SUSY; (2) The parameter region with a higgsino mass 100 GeV$\lesssim μ\lesssim$ 225 GeV and stop mass $m_{\tilde{t}_1} \lesssim$ 620 GeV, can be probed through the single stop production with $S/\sqrt{B} > 3$ and $4\% \lesssim S/B \lesssim19\%$ at 14 TeV HL-LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$.

An extension of two-Higgs-doublet model and the excesses of 750 GeV diphoton, muon g-2 and $h\toμτ$

In this paper we simultaneously explain the excesses of the 750 GeV diphoton, muon g-2 and $h\to μτ$ in an extension of the two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) with additional vector-like fermions and a CP-odd scalar singlet ($P$) which is identified as the 750 GeV resonance. This 750 GeV resonance has a mixing with the CP-odd scalar ($A$) in 2HDM, which leads to a coupling between $P$ and the SM particles as well as a coupling between $A$ and the vector-like fermions. Such a mixing and couplings are strongly constrained by $τ\toμγ$, muon g-2 and the 750 GeV diphoton data. We scan over the parameter space and find that such an extension can simultaneously account for the observed excesses of 750 GeV diphoton, muon g-2 and $h\to μτ$. The 750 GeV resonance decays in exotic modes, such as $P\to hA$, $P\to HZ$, $P\to HA$ and $P\to W^\pm H^\mp$, and its width can be dozens of GeV and is sensitive to the mixing angle.

Explanation of the ATLAS Z-peaked excess by squark pair production in the NMSSM

The ATLAS collaboration recently reported a $3σ$ excess in the leptonic-$Z+jets+E_{T}^{miss}$ channel. We intend to interpret this excess by squark pair production in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). The decay chain we employ is $\tilde{q} \to q \tildeχ_2^0 \to q \tildeχ_1^0 Z$, where $\tildeχ_1^0$ and $\tildeχ_2^0$ denote the lightest and the next-to-lightest neutralinos with singlino and bino as their dominant components respectively. Our simulations indicate that after considering the constraints from the ATLAS searches for $jets + E_{T}^{miss}$ signal the central value of the excess can be obtained for $m_{\tilde{q}} \lesssim 1.2 {\rm TeV}$, and if the constraint from the CMS on-$Z$ search is further considered, more than 10 signal events are still attainable for $m_{\tilde{q}} \lesssim 750 {\rm GeV}$. Compared with the interpretation by gluino pair production, the squark explanation allows for a significantly wider range of $m_{\tilde{q}}$ as well as a less compressed SUSY mass spectrum. We also show that the squark explanation will be readily tested at the initial stage of the 14 TeV LHC.

ATLAS Z-peaked excess in MSSM with a light sbottom or stop

We attempt to explain the recent ATLAS 3$σ$ excess of dilepton events with an invariant mass near $Z$ peak through the gluino-mediated sbottom production in a simplified scenario inspired by the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The additional $Z$ bosons can be produced through the cascade decay chain $\tilde{g} \to b \tilde{b}^{\dagger}_{1} \to b \bar{b} \tildeχ^{0}_{2,3} \to b \bar{b} \tildeχ^{0}_1 Z$, in which $\tilde b_1$ is the right-handed sbottom, $\tildeχ_1^0$ is the bino-like lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and $\tildeχ_{2,3}^0$ are two nearly degenerate higgsino-like next-to LSPs (NLSPs). Taking into account the constraint from the LHC search for the gluino-mediated sbottom production in the final states with the missing transverse energy and at least three $b$-jets, we find that the ATLAS on-$Z$ excess can only be marginally explained at $2σ$ level. We also note that within the scenario where the gluino predominantly decays to the right-handed stop instead of the sbottom, the excess can hardly be explained, since the $Z$-boson is not produced in the stop dominant decay channel, $\tilde{t}_1 \to b \tildeχ^+_1$.

Higgs pair signal enhanced in the 2HDM with two degenerate 125 GeV Higgs bosons

We discuss a scenario of the type-II 2HDM in which the $b\bar{b}γγ$ rate of the Higgs pair production is enhanced due to the two nearly degenerate 125 GeV Higgs bosons ($h$, $H$). Considering various theoretical and experimental constraints, we figure out the allowed ranges of the trilinear couplings of these two Higgs bosons and calculate the signal rate of $b\bar{b}γγ$ from the productions of Higgs pairs ($hh$, $hH$, $HH$) at the LHC. We find that in the allowed parameter space some trilinear Higgs couplings can be larger than the SM value by an order and the production rate of $b\bar{b}γγ$ can be greatly enhanced. We also consider a "decoupling" benchmark point where the light CP-even Higgs has a SM-like cubic self-coupling while other trilinear couplings are very small. With a detailed simulation on the $b\bar{b}γγ$ signal and backgrounds, we find that in such a "decoupling" scenario the $hh$ and $hH$ channels can jointly enhance the statistical significance to 5$σ$ at 14 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$.

Interpreting the galactic center gamma-ray excess in the NMSSM

In the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM), all singlet-dominated particles including one neutralino, one CP-odd Higgs boson and one CP-even Higgs boson can be simultaneously lighter than about 100 GeV. Consequently, dark matter (DM) in the NMSSM can annihilate into multiple final states to explain the galactic center gamma-ray excess (GCE). In this work we take into account the foreground and background uncertainties for the GCE and investigate these explanations. We carry out a sophisticated scan over the NMSSM parameter space by considering various experimental constraints such as the Higgs data, $B$-physics observables, DM relic desnity, LUX experiment and the dSphs constraints. Then for each surviving parameter point we perform a fit to the GCE spectrum by using the correlation matrix that incorporates both the statistical and systematic uncertainties of the measured excess. After examining the properties of the obtained GCE solutions, we conclude that the GCE can be well explained by the pure annihilations $\tildeχ_1^0 \tildeχ_1^0 \to b \bar{b} $ and $\tildeχ_1^0 \tildeχ_1^0 \to A_1 H_i $ with $A_1$ being the lighter singlet-dominated CP-odd Higgs boson and $H_i$ denoting the singlet-dominated CP-even Higgs boson or SM-like Higgs boson, and it can also be explained by the mixed annihilation $\tildeχ_1^0 \tildeχ_1^0 \to W^+ W^-, A_1 H_1$. Among these annihilation channels, $\tildeχ_1^0 \tildeχ_1^0 \to A_1 H_i $ can provide the best interpretation with the corresponding $p$-value reaching 0.55. We also discuss to what extent the future DM direct detection experiments can explore the GCE solutions and conclude that the XENON-1T experiment is very promising in testing nearly all the solutions.
