On attractor and fixed points in Bjorken flows

We consider a plasma of massless particles undergoing Bjorken expansion, mimicking the matter created in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. We study the transition to hydrodynamics using kinetic theory in the relaxation time approximation. By allowing the relaxation time to depend on time, we can monitor the speed of the transition from the collisionless regime to hydrodynamics. By using a special set of moments of the momentum distribution, we reduce the kinetic equation to a coupled mode problem which encompasses all versions of second order viscous hydrodynamics for Bjorken flows. This coupled mode problem is analysed first using techniques of linear algebra. Then we transform this two mode problem into a single non linear differential equation and proceed to a fixed point analysis. We identify an attractor solution as the particular solution of this non linear equation that joins two fixed points: one corresponding to the collisionless, early time regime, the other corresponding to late time hydrodynamics. We exploit the analytic solution of this equation in order to test several approximations and to identify generic features of the transition to hydrodynamics. We argue that extending the accuracy of hydrodynamics to early time, i.e. to the region of large gradients, amounts essentially to improve the accuracy of the location of the collisionless fixed point. This is demonstrated by showing that a simple renormalisation of a second order transport coefficient puts the free streaming fixed point at the right location, and allows us to reproduce accurately the full solution of the kinetic equation within second order viscous hydrodynamics, even in regimes far from local equilibrium.

Thermal photons as a sensitive probe of $α$-cluster in C+Au collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider

Different orientations of $α$-clustered carbon nuclei colliding with heavy ions can result in a large variation in the value of anisotropic flow. Thus, photon flow observables from clustered ${\rm^{12}C}$ and ${\rm^{197}Au}$ collisions could be a potential probe to study the `direct photon puzzle'. We calculate the transverse momentum spectra and anisotropic flow coefficients ($v_n$) of thermal photons from collisions of triangular $α$-clustered carbon and gold at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV at RHIC using a hydrodynamic model framework and compare the results with those obtained from unclustered carbon and gold collisions. The slope of the thermal photon spectra is found to vary moderately for different orientations of collisions. However, we find that the elliptic ($v_2$) and triangular flow ($v_3$) coefficients of direct photons for specific configurations are significantly larger and predominantly formed by the QGP radiation. A strong anti-correlation between initial spatial ellipticity and triangularity is observed in an event-by-event framework of $α$-clustered ${\rm C+Au}$ collisions. These special features provide us an opportunity to detect the exotic nature of cluster structure inside carbon nucleus using the photon probe in the future experiments.

Dynamical evolution of magnetic field in the pre-equilibrium quark-gluon plasma

High-energy heavy-ion collisions generate extremely strong magnetic field which plays a key role in a number of novel quantum phenomena in quark-gluon plasma (QGP), such as the chiral magnetic effect (CME). However, due to the complexity in theoretical modellings of the coupled electromagnetic fields and the QGP system, especially in the pre-equilibrium stages, the lifetime of the magnetic field in the QGP medium remains undetermined. We establish, for the first time, a kinetic framework to study the dynamical decay of the magnetic field in the early stages of a weakly coupled QGP by solving the coupled Boltzmann and Maxwell equations. We find that at late times a magnetohydrodynamical description of the coupled system emerges. With respect to realistic collisions at RHIC and the LHC, we estimate the residual strength of the magnetic field in the QGP when the system start to evolve hydrodynamically.

Adiabatic hydrodynamization in rapidly-expanding quark-gluon plasma

We propose a new scenario characterizing the transition of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in heavy-ion collisions from a highly non-equilibrium state at early times toward a fluid described by hydrodynamics at late times. We develop an analogy to the evolution of a quantum mechanical system that is governed by the instantaneous ground states. In the simplest case, these slow modes are "pre-hydrodynamic" in the sense that they are initially distinct from, but evolve continuously into, hydrodynamic modes. For a class of collision integrals, the pre-hydrodynamic mode represents the angular distribution (in momentum space) of those gluons that carry most of the energy. We illustrate this scenario using a kinetic description of weakly-coupled Bjorken expanding plasma. Rapid longitudinal expansion drives a reduction in the degrees of freedom at early times. In the relaxation time approximation for the collision integral, we show quantitatively that the full kinetic theory evolution is dominated by the pre-hydrodynamic mode. We elaborate on the criterion for the dominance of pre-hydrodynamic slow modes and speculate that adiabatic hydrodynamization may describe the pre-equilibrium behavior of the QGP produced in heavy-ion collisions.

Recent development of hydrodynamic modeling in heavy-ion collisions

We present a concise review of the recent development of relativistic hydrodynamics and its applications to heavy-ion collisions. Theoretical progress on the extended formulation of hydrodynamics towards out-of-equilibrium systems is addressed, emphasizing the so-called attractor solution. On the other hand, recent phenomenological improvements in the hydrodynamic modeling of heavy-ion collisions with respect to the ongoing Beam Energy Scan program, the quantitative characterization of transport coefficients in the three-dimensionally expanding quark-gluon plasma, the fluid description of small colliding systems, and some other interdisciplinary connections are discussed.

The emission of electromagnetic radiation from the early stages of relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We estimate the production of electromagnetic radiation (real and virtual photons) from the early, pre-equilibrium, stage of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The parton dynamics are obtained as a solution of the Boltzmann equation in the Fokker-Planck diffusion limit. The photon and dilepton rates are integrated and the obtained yields are compared with those from standard sources and with available experimental data. Non-equilibrium photon spectra are predicted for Pb+Pb at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV.

IEEE 802.11be-Wi-Fi 7: New Challenges and Opportunities

With the emergence of 4k/8k video, the throughput requirement of video delivery will keep grow to tens of Gbps. Other new high-throughput and low-latency video applications including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and online gaming, are also proliferating. Due to the related stringent requirements, supporting these applications over wireless local area network (WLAN) is far beyond the capabilities of the new WLAN standard -- IEEE 802.11ax. To meet these emerging demands, the IEEE 802.11 will release a new amendment standard IEEE 802.11be -- Extremely High Throughput (EHT), also known as Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi) 7. This article provides the comprehensive survey on the key medium access control (MAC) layer techniques and physical layer (PHY) techniques being discussed in the EHT task group, including the channelization and tone plan, multiple resource units (multi-RU) support, 4096 quadrature amplitude modulation (4096-QAM), preamble designs, multiple link operations (e.g., multi-link aggregation and channel access), multiple input multiple output (MIMO) enhancement, multiple access point (multi-AP) coordination (e.g., multi-AP joint transmission), enhanced link adaptation and retransmission protocols (e.g., hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ)). This survey covers both the critical technologies being discussed in EHT standard and the related latest progresses from worldwide research. Besides, the potential developments beyond EHT are discussed to provide some possible future research directions for WLAN.

BER Performance of Spatial Modulation Systems Under a Non-Stationary Massive MIMO Channel Model

In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of spatial modulation (SM) systems is investigated both theoretically and by simulation in a non-stationary Kronecker-based massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channel model in multi-user (MU) scenarios. Massive MIMO SM systems are considered in this paper using both a time-division multiple access (TDMA) scheme and a block diagonalization (BD) based precoding scheme, for different system settings. Their performance is compared with a vertical Bell labs layered space-time (V-BLAST) architecture based system and a conventional channel inversion system. It is observed that a higher cluster evolution factor can result in better BER performance of SM systems due to the low correlation among sub-channels. Compared with the BD-SM system, the SM system using the TDMA scheme obtains a better BER performance but with a much lower total system data rate. The BD-MU-SM system achieves the best trade-off between the data rate and the BER performance among all of the systems considered. When compared with the V-BLAST system and the channel inversion system, SM approaches offer advantages in performance for MU massive MIMO systems.

A highly sensitive piezoresistive sensor based on MXene and polyvinyl butyral with a wide detection limit and low power consumption

As a new class of two-dimensional transition-metal carbide and carbonitride, MXene have been widely used in the energy storage, sensor, catalysis, electromagnetic interference shielding and other field. It is a challenge to simultaneously realize a sensor of extremely high sensitivity, wide detection limits, low power consumption and good mechanical stability. In this work, taking advantage of high conductivity of MXene and porous structure of polyvinyl butyral, a highly sensitive piezoresistive sensor was fabricated. The fabricated MXene/PVB-based sensor exhibits highly sensitive reliably with a factor of ~11.9 kPa^-1, ~1.15 kPa^-1 and ~0.20 kPa^-1 in the ranges of 31.2 Pa-312 Pa, 312 Pa- 62.4 kPa and 62.4 kPa-1248.4 kPa, respectively. The sensor has a wide detection range (~31.2 Pa to ~2.205 MPa), low detection limit (6.8 Pa), low detection voltage (0.1 mV), low power consumption (~3.6 * 10^-10 W), fast response time ( ~110 ms), as well as good mechanical stability (over 10,000 maximum-pressure cycles). Moreover, it is demonstrated that the sensor can detect subtle bending and release activities of human, including arterial pulses and voice signal, which is potentially suitable as a wide detection range, highly sensitive and low power consumption piezoresistive sensor. This work provides a new avenue to expand the application of MXene-based flexible pressure sensor in the field of wide sensing range and ultra-low power consumption.

Longitudinal fluid response and pseudorapidity dependent flow in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We study the pseudorapidity dependent hydrodynamic response in heavy-ion collisions. A differential hydrodynamic relation is obtained for elliptic flow. Using event-by-event simulations of 3+1D MUSIC, with initial conditions generated via a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model, the differential response relation is verified. Based on the response relation, we find that the two-point correlation of elliptic flow in pseudorapidity are separated into the fluid response and the two-point correlation of initial eccentricity.

Hydrogen Bond Interaction Promotes Flash Energy Transport at MXene-water Interface

There are emerging applications for photothermal conversion utilizing MXene, but the mechanism under these applications related interfacial energy migration from MXene to the attached surface layer is still unknown. In this paper, with comprehensive ultrafast studies, we reported the energy migration pathway from MXene (Ti3C2Tx) to local environment under plasmonic excitation. Our data found that in water, energy dissipation is divided into fast hydrogen bond mediated channel and slow lattice motion mediated channel. The experimental results suggest that in water, nearly 80% energy in MXene that gained from the photoexcitation quickly dissipates into surrounding water molecules within 7 ps as a hydrogen bond mediated fast channel, and the remaining energy vanishes with time constant ~100 ps as a lattice motion mediated slow channel. The fast energy migration would result in the prominent interfacial energy conductance 150-300 MW *m{-2}* K{-1} for MXene-water interface. Tuning the solvent into ethanol could both narrow the energy dissipation to 35% through the fast channel and slow down the thermal channel (400 ps). To gain the molecular insight, molecular dynamic results presented different solvents had significantly different H bond forming ability on MXene surface. Our results suggested that interfacial interaction is crucial for effective hydrogen bonds on MXene surface to channel the excitation dissipation, providing important insights into the photothermal applications with MXene.

Chiral Magnetic Effect in Isobar Collisions from Stochastic Hydrodynamics

We study chiral magnetic effect in collisions of AuAu, RuRu and ZrZr at s = 200GeV. The axial charge evolution is modeled with stochastic hydrodynamics and geometrical quantities are calculated with Monte Carlo Glauber model. By adjusting the relaxation time of magnetic field, we find our results in good agreement with background subtracted data for AuAu collisions at the same energy. We also make prediction for RuRu and ZrZr collisions. We find a weak centrality dependence of initial chiral imbalance, which implies the centrality dependence of chiral magnetic effect signal comes mainly from those of magnetic field and volume factor. Our results also show an unexpected dependence on system size: while the system of AuAu has larger chiral imbalance and magnetic field, it turns out to have smaller signal for chiral magnetic effect due to the larger volume suppression factor.

Pseudorapidity dependent hydrodynamic response in heavy-ion collisions

We propose a differential hydrodynamic response relation, $V_2(ζ)=\int dξG(ζ-ξ) \mathcal{E}_2(ξ)$, to describe the formation of a pseudorapidity dependent elliptic flow in heavy-ion collisions, in response to a fluctuating three-dimensional initial density profile. By analyzing the medium expansion using event-by-event simulations of 3+1D MUSIC, with initial conditions generated via the AMPT model, the differential response relation is verified. Given the response relation, we are able to separate the two-point correlation of elliptic flow in pseudorapidity into fluid response and two-point correlation of initial eccentricity. The fluid response contains information of the speed of sound and shear viscosity of the medium. From the pseudorapidity dependent response relation, a finite radius of convergence of hydrodynamic gradient expansion is obtained with respect to realistic fluids in heavy-ion collisions.

Electromagnetic radiation from the pre-equilibrium/pre-hydro stage of the quark-gluon plasma

Photons produced in the pre-equilibrium/pre-hydro stage of the quark-gluon plasma produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions were computed using parton distribution functions obtained from solutions of the Boltzmann equation. The effect of the initial gluon momentum anisotropy $ξ$ and the dependence on the saturation momentum $Q_s$ was investigated. We see that small $Q_s$ results in a photon yield enhancement, whereas a larger $Q_s$ results in a pre-equilibrium photon suppression, owing to the strict constraint of matching to experimental energy density.

Plasmonic Light Illumination Creates a Channel to Achieve Fast Degradation of Ti3C2Tx Nanosheets

Two-dimensional (2D) material-controllable degradation under light radiation is crucial for their photonics and medical-related applications, which are yet to be investigated. In this paper, we first report the laser illumination method to regulate the degradation rate of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets in aqueous solution. Comprehensive characterization of intermediates and final products confirmed that plasmonic laser promoting the oxidation was strikingly different from heating the aqueous solution homogeneously. Laser illumination would nearly 10 times accelerate the degradation of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets in initial stage and create many smaller-sized oxidized products in a short time. Laser-induced fast degradation was principally ascribed to surface plasmonic resonance effect of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets. The degradation ability of such illumination could be controlled either by tuning the excitation wavelength or changing the excitation power. Furthermore, the laser- or thermal-induced degradation could be retarded by surface protection of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets. Our results suggest that plasmonic electron excitation of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets could build a new reaction channel and lead to the fast oxidation of nanosheets in aqueous solution, potentially enabling a series of water-based applications.

Emergence of hydrodynamical behavior in expanding quark-gluon plasmas

We use a set of simple angular moments to solve the Boltzmann equation in the relaxation time approximation for a boost invariant longitudinally expanding gluonic plasma. The transition from the free streaming regime at early time to the hydrodynamic regime at late time is well captured by the first two-moments, corresponding to the monopole and quadrupole components of the momentum distribution, or equivalently to the energy density and the difference between the longitudinal and the transverse pressures. We relate this property to the existence of fixed points in the infinite hierarchy of equations satisfied by the moments. These fixed points are already present in the two-moment truncations and are only moderately affected by the coupling to higher moments. Collisions contribute to a damping of all the non trivial moments. At late time, when the hydrodynamic regime is entered, only the monopole and quadrupole moments are significant and remain strongly coupled, the decay of the quadrupole moment being delayed by the expansion, causing in turn a delay in the full isotropization of the system. The two-moment truncation contains second order viscous hydrodynamics, in its various variants, and third order hydrodynamics, together with explicit values of the relevant transport coefficients, can be easily obtained from the three-moment truncation.

Scheduling and Power Control for V2V Broadcast Communications with Co-Channel and Adjacent Channel Interference

This paper investigates how to mitigate the impact of both co-channel interference and adjacent channel interference (ACI) on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) broadcast communication by scheduling and power control. The optimal joint scheduling and power control problem, with the objective to maximize the number of connected vehicles, is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem with a linear objective and a quadratic constraint. From the joint formulation, we derive (a) the optimal scheduling problem for fixed transmit powers as a Boolean linear programming problem and (b) the optimal power control problem for a fixed schedule as a mixed integer linear programming problem. Optimal schedules and power values can, for smaller-size instances of the problem, be computed by solving first (a) and then (b). To handle larger-size instances of the problem, we propose heuristic scheduling and power control algorithms with reduced computational complexity. Simulation results indicate that the heuristic scheduling algorithm yields significant performance improvements compared to the baseline block-interleaver scheduler and that performance is further improved by the heuristic power control algorithm. Moreover, the heuristic algorithms perform close to the optimal scheme for small instances of the problem.

Hydrodynamic response in simulations within a multiphase transport model

We carry out simulations using a multiphase transport (AMPT) model to describe the observed flow signatures in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV Pb-Pb collisions. Especially, we calculate the flow fluctuations of $v_2$ in terms of cumulant ratios and the standardized skewness. Based on event-by-event AMPT simulations, we study the linear and cubic response relation between $v_2$ and $\varepsilon_2$. We found that the observed response relation is compatible to what has been noticed in hydrodynamic modelings, with similar dependence on shear viscosity. Besides, this response relation is not sensitive to nonflow effects.
