P-RAG: Progressive Retrieval Augmented Generation For Planning on Embodied Everyday Task

Embodied Everyday Task is a popular task in the embodied AI community, requiring agents to make a sequence of actions based on natural language instructions and visual observations. Traditional learning-based approaches face two challenges. Firstly, natural language instructions often lack explicit task planning. Secondly, extensive training is required to equip models with knowledge of the task environment. Previous works based on Large Language Model (LLM) either suffer from poor performance due to the lack of task-specific knowledge or rely on ground truth as few-shot samples. To address the above limitations, we propose a novel approach called Progressive Retrieval Augmented Generation (P-RAG), which not only effectively leverages the powerful language processing capabilities of LLMs but also progressively accumulates task-specific knowledge without ground-truth. Compared to the conventional RAG methods, which retrieve relevant information from the database in a one-shot manner to assist generation, P-RAG introduces an iterative approach to progressively update the database. In each iteration, P-RAG retrieves the latest database and obtains historical information from the previous interaction as experiential references for the current interaction. Moreover, we also introduce a more granular retrieval scheme that not only retrieves similar tasks but also incorporates retrieval of similar situations to provide more valuable reference experiences. Extensive experiments reveal that P-RAG achieves competitive results without utilizing ground truth and can even further improve performance through self-iterations.

SEDS: Semantically Enhanced Dual-Stream Encoder for Sign Language Retrieval

Different from traditional video retrieval, sign language retrieval is more biased towards understanding the semantic information of human actions contained in video clips. Previous works typically only encode RGB videos to obtain high-level semantic features, resulting in local action details drowned in a large amount of visual information redundancy. Furthermore, existing RGB-based sign retrieval works suffer from the huge memory cost of dense visual data embedding in end-to-end training, and adopt offline RGB encoder instead, leading to suboptimal feature representation. To address these issues, we propose a novel sign language representation framework called Semantically Enhanced Dual-Stream Encoder (SEDS), which integrates Pose and RGB modalities to represent the local and global information of sign language videos. Specifically, the Pose encoder embeds the coordinates of keypoints corresponding to human joints, effectively capturing detailed action features. For better context-aware fusion of two video modalities, we propose a Cross Gloss Attention Fusion (CGAF) module to aggregate the adjacent clip features with similar semantic information from intra-modality and inter-modality. Moreover, a Pose-RGB Fine-grained Matching Objective is developed to enhance the aggregated fusion feature by contextual matching of fine-grained dual-stream features. Besides the offline RGB encoder, the whole framework only contains learnable lightweight networks, which can be trained end-to-end. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our framework significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods on various datasets.

Testing the cosmic distance duality relation with Type Ia supernova and transverse BAO measurements

In this work, we test the cosmic distance duality relation (CDDR) by comparing the angular diameter distance (ADD) derived from the transverse Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) data with the luminosity distance (LD) from the Pantheon type Ia supernova (SNIa) sample. The binning method and Gaussian process are employed to match ADD data with LD data at the same redshift. First, we use nonparametric and parametric methods to investigate the impact of the specific prior values of the absolute magnitude $M_{\rm B}$ from SNIa observations and the sound horizon scale $r_{\rm s}$ from transverse BAO measurements on the CDDR tests. The results obtained from the parametric and non-parametric methods indicate that specific prior values of $M_{\rm B}$ and $r_{\rm s}$ lead to significant biases on the CDDR test. Then, to avoid these biases, we propose a method independent of $M_{\rm B}$ and $r_{\rm s}$ to test CDDR by considering the fiducial value of $κ\equiv10^{M_{\rm B} \over 5}r_{\rm s}$ as a nuisance parameter and then marginalizing its influence with a flat prior in the analysis. No violation of the CDDR is found, and the transverse BAO measurement can be used as a powerful tool to verify the validity of CDDR in the cosmological-model-independent method.

DTR: A Unified Deep Tensor Representation Framework for Multimedia Data Recovery

Recently, the transform-based tensor representation has attracted increasing attention in multimedia data (e.g., images and videos) recovery problems, which consists of two indispensable components, i.e., transform and characterization. Previously, the development of transform-based tensor representation mainly focuses on the transform aspect. Although several attempts consider using shallow matrix factorization (e.g., singular value decomposition and negative matrix factorization) to characterize the frontal slices of transformed tensor (termed as latent tensor), the faithful characterization aspect is underexplored. To address this issue, we propose a unified Deep Tensor Representation (termed as DTR) framework by synergistically combining the deep latent generative module and the deep transform module. Especially, the deep latent generative module can faithfully generate the latent tensor as compared with shallow matrix factorization. The new DTR framework not only allows us to better understand the classic shallow representations, but also leads us to explore new representation. To examine the representation ability of the proposed DTR, we consider the representative multi-dimensional data recovery task and suggest an unsupervised DTR-based multi-dimensional data recovery model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DTR achieves superior performance compared to state-of-the-art methods in both quantitative and qualitative aspects, especially for fine details recovery.

High-temperature Superconductivity in Perovskite Hydride below 10 GPa

Hydrogen and hydrides materials have long been considered promising materials for high-temperature superconductivity. But the extreme pressures required for the metallization of hydrogen-based superconductors limit their applications. Here, we have designed a series of high-temperature perovskite hydrides that can be stable within 10 GPa. Our research covered 182 ternary systems and ultimately determined that 9 compounds were stable within 20 GPa, of which 5 exhibited superconducting transition temperatures exceeding 120 K within 10 GPa. Excitingly, KGaH3 and CsInH3 are thermodynamically stable at 50 GPa. Among these perovskite hydrides, alkali metals are responsible for providing a fixed amount of charge and maintaining structural stability, while the cubic framework formed by IIIA group elements and hydrogen is crucial for high-temperature superconductivity. This work will inspire further experimental exploration and take an important step in the exploration of low-pressure stable high-temperature superconductors.

Multi-service collaboration and composition of cloud manufacturing customized production based on problem decomposition

Cloud manufacturing system is a service-oriented and knowledge-based one, which can provide solutions for the large-scale customized production. The service resource allocation is the primary factor that restricts the production time and cost in the cloud manufacturing customized production (CMCP). In order to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost in CMCP, we propose a new framework which considers the collaboration among services with the same functionality. A mathematical evaluation formulation for the service composition and service usage scheme is constructed with the following critical indexes: completion time, cost, and number of selected services. Subsequently, a problem decomposition based genetic algorithm is designed to obtain the optimal service compositions with service usage schemes. A smart clothing customization case is illustrated so as to show the effectiveness and efficiency of the method proposed in this paper. Finally, the results of simulation experiments and comparisons show that these solutions obtained by our method are with the minimum time, a lower cost, and the fewer selected services.

An integrated electro-optically tunable multi-channel interference cavity laser

We demonstrated a continuously tunable laser system by butt coupling a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) chip with a thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) based multi-channel interference (MCI) cavity chip. This hybrid integrated lasers allows for fine-tuning of the laser wavelength from 1538 nm to 1560 nm with a resolution of 0.014 nm and a side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) exceeding 30 dB. The MCI cavity chip is fabricated using the photolithography assisted chemo-mechanical etching (PLACE) technique. The developed laser has an output power of approximately 10 μW, which can be further amplified to 70 mW using a commercial erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) without significant broadening of the laser linewidth.

Self-Supervised Representation Learning with Spatial-Temporal Consistency for Sign Language Recognition

Recently, there have been efforts to improve the performance in sign language recognition by designing self-supervised learning methods. However, these methods capture limited information from sign pose data in a frame-wise learning manner, leading to sub-optimal solutions. To this end, we propose a simple yet effective self-supervised contrastive learning framework to excavate rich context via spatial-temporal consistency from two distinct perspectives and learn instance discriminative representation for sign language recognition. On one hand, since the semantics of sign language are expressed by the cooperation of fine-grained hands and coarse-grained trunks, we utilize both granularity information and encode them into latent spaces. The consistency between hand and trunk features is constrained to encourage learning consistent representation of instance samples. On the other hand, inspired by the complementary property of motion and joint modalities, we first introduce first-order motion information into sign language modeling. Additionally, we further bridge the interaction between the embedding spaces of both modalities, facilitating bidirectional knowledge transfer to enhance sign language representation. Our method is evaluated with extensive experiments on four public benchmarks, and achieves new state-of-the-art performance with a notable margin. The source code is publicly available at https://github.com/sakura/Code.

MASA: Motion-aware Masked Autoencoder with Semantic Alignment for Sign Language Recognition

Sign language recognition (SLR) has long been plagued by insufficient model representation capabilities. Although current pre-training approaches have alleviated this dilemma to some extent and yielded promising performance by employing various pretext tasks on sign pose data, these methods still suffer from two primary limitations: 1) Explicit motion information is usually disregarded in previous pretext tasks, leading to partial information loss and limited representation capability. 2) Previous methods focus on the local context of a sign pose sequence, without incorporating the guidance of the global meaning of lexical signs. To this end, we propose a Motion-Aware masked autoencoder with Semantic Alignment (MASA) that integrates rich motion cues and global semantic information in a self-supervised learning paradigm for SLR. Our framework contains two crucial components, i.e., a motion-aware masked autoencoder (MA) and a momentum semantic alignment module (SA). Specifically, in MA, we introduce an autoencoder architecture with a motion-aware masked strategy to reconstruct motion residuals of masked frames, thereby explicitly exploring dynamic motion cues among sign pose sequences. Moreover, in SA, we embed our framework with global semantic awareness by aligning the embeddings of different augmented samples from the input sequence in the shared latent space. In this way, our framework can simultaneously learn local motion cues and global semantic features for comprehensive sign language representation. Furthermore, we conduct extensive experiments to validate the effectiveness of our method, achieving new state-of-the-art performance on four public benchmarks.

Timeliness of Status Update System: The Effect of Parallel Transmission Using Heterogeneous Updating Devices

Timely status updating is the premise of emerging interaction-based applications in the Internet of Things (IoT). Using redundant devices to update the status of interest is a promising method to improve the timeliness of information. However, parallel status updating leads to out-of-order arrivals at the monitor, significantly challenging timeliness analysis. This work studies the Age of Information (AoI) of a multi-queue status update system where multiple devices monitor the same physical process. Specifically, two systems are considered: the Basic System, which only has type-1 devices that are ad hoc devices located close to the source, and the Hybrid System, which contains additional type-2 devices that are infrastructure-based devices located in fixed points compared to the Basic System. Using the Stochastic Hybrid Systems (SHS) framework, a mathematical model that combines discrete and continuous dynamics, we derive the expressions of the average AoI of the considered two systems in closed form. Numerical results verify the accuracy of the analysis. It is shown that when the number and parameters of the type-1 devices/type-2 devices are fixed, the logarithm of average AoI will linearly decrease with the logarithm of the total arrival rate of type-2 devices or that of the number of type-1 devices under specific condition. It has also been demonstrated that the proposed systems can significantly outperform the FCFS M/M/N status update system.

An erbium-doped waveguide amplifier on thin film lithium niobate with an output power exceeding 100 mW

We demonstrate high-power thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) erbium-doped waveguide amplifier (EDWA) with a maximum on-chip output power of 113 mW and a gain of 16 dB. The on-chip integrated EDWA is composed of large mode area (LMA) waveguide structures with a total length of 7 cm and a footprint of 1x1 cm2. Particularly, we connect segmented LMA waveguides with waveguide tapers to achieve on-chip mode conversion which maintains single-mode propagation all over the EDWA even at the waveguide bends. The design leads to significant increase of the amplified signal power by orders of magnitude and will open an avenue for applications such as on-chip high-power lasers and amplifiers system.

Lower classes and Chung's LILs of the fractional integrated generalized fractional Brownian motion

Let $\{X(t)\}_{t\geqslant0}$ be the generalized fractional Brownian motion introduced by Pang and Taqqu (2019): \begin{align*} \{X(t)\}_{t\ge0}\overset{d}{=}&\left\{ \int_{\mathbb R} \left((t-u)_+^α-(-u)_+^α \right) |u|^{-γ/2} B(du) \right\}_{t\ge0}, \end{align*} where $ γ\in [0,1), \ \ α\in \left(-\frac12+\fracγ{2}, \ \frac12+\fracγ{2} \right)$ are constants. For any $θ>0$, let \begin{align*} Y(t)=\frac{1}{Γ(θ)}\int_0^t (t-u)^{θ-1} X(u)du, \quad t\ge 0. \end{align*} Building upon the arguments of Talagrand (1996), we give integral criteria for the lower classes of $Y$ at $t=0$ and at infinity, respectively. As a consequence, we derive its Chung-type laws of the iterated logarithm. In the proofs, the small ball probability estimates play important roles.

On the Flux-Intensity Relation of Molecular Clouds

In this work, we report a study on the relationship between flux and intensity for molecular clouds. Our analysis is established on high-quality CO images from the Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting (MWISP) project. The new flux-intensity relation characterizes the flux variation of molecular clouds above specific intensity levels. We found that the flux-intensity relation exhibits two prominent features. First, the flux-intensity relation generally follows exponential shapes; secondly, hierarchical structures of molecular clouds are imprinted on flux-intensity relations. Specifically, 12CO flux-intensity relations are composed of one or more exponential segments, and for molecular clouds with segmented flux-intensity relations, the edge and the flux of the high-temperature component are strikingly consistent with 13CO emission. Further analysis shows that a similar relationship also exists between 13CO flux-intensity relations and C18O emission. The mean brightness temperature of molecular clouds is tightly associated with the decay rate of flux, the break temperature of exponential segments, and, to a certain extent, the flux fraction of the high-temperature component. Broadly, the flux-intensity relation of a molecular tracer, either in optically thick or in optically thin cases, has the capability to outline the silhouette of internal structures of molecular clouds, proving to be a potent tool for probing structures of molecular clouds.

Autoencoder-assisted Feature Ensemble Net for Incipient Faults

Deep learning has shown the great power in the field of fault detection. However, for incipient faults with tiny amplitude, the detection performance of the current deep learning networks (DLNs) is not satisfactory. Even if prior information about the faults is utilized, DLNs can't successfully detect faults 3, 9 and 15 in Tennessee Eastman process (TEP). These faults are notoriously difficult to detect, lacking effective detection technologies in the field of fault detection. In this work, we propose Autoencoder-assisted Feature Ensemble Net (AE-FENet): a deep feature ensemble framework that uses the unsupervised autoencoder to conduct the feature transformation. Compared with the principle component analysis (PCA) technique adopted in the original Feature Ensemble Net (FENet), autoencoder can mine more exact features on incipient faults, which results in the better detection performance of AE-FENet. With same kinds of basic detectors, AE-FENet achieves a state-of-the-art average accuracy over 96% on faults 3, 9 and 15 in TEP, which represents a significant enhancement in performance compared to other methods. Plenty of experiments have been done to extend our framework, proving that DLNs can be utilized efficiently within this architecture.

NAND-like SOT-MRAM-based Approximate Storage for Error-Tolerant Applications

We demonstrate approximate storage based on NAND-like spin-orbit torque (SOT) MRAM, through "device-modeling-architecture" explorations. We experimentally achieve down to 1E-5 level selectivity. Selectivity and low-power solutions are established by numerical calculation workflow. System-level power consumption is evaluated in the 512 KB last-level cache according to 5 quality levels. Error-tolerant applications, such as image processing, alleviate the demand for selectivity down to the 5E-2 level, leading to 54% ~ 61% energy-saving. Our proposal paves the novel and suitable path for high-density and low-power NAND-like SOT-MRAM.

One-photon-interference quantum secure direct communication

Quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) is a quantum communication paradigm that transmits confidential messages directly using quantum states. Measurement-device-independent (MDI) QSDC protocols can eliminate the security loopholes associated with measurement devices. To enhance the practicality and performance of MDI-QSDC protocols, we propose a one-photon-interference MDI QSDC (OPI-QSDC) protocol which transcends the need for quantum memory, ideal single-photon sources, or entangled light sources. The security of our OPI-QSDC protocol has also been analyzed using quantum wiretap channel theory. Furthermore, our protocol could double the distance of usual prepare-and-measure protocols, since quantum states sending from adjacent nodes are connected with single-photon interference, which demonstrates its potential to extend the communication distance for point-to-point QSDC.

Token-Efficient Leverage Learning in Large Language Models

Large Language Models (LLMs) have excelled in various tasks but perform better in high-resource scenarios, which presents challenges in low-resource scenarios. Data scarcity and the inherent difficulty of adapting LLMs to specific tasks compound the challenge. To address the twin hurdles, we introduce \textbf{Leverage Learning}. We present a streamlined implement of this methodology called Token-Efficient Leverage Learning (TELL). TELL showcases the potential of Leverage Learning, demonstrating effectiveness across various LLMs and low-resource tasks, ranging from $10^4$ to $10^6$ tokens. It reduces task data requirements by up to nearly an order of magnitude compared to conventional Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) while delivering competitive performance. With the same amount of task data, TELL leads in improving task performance compared to SFT. We discuss the mechanism of Leverage Learning, suggesting it aligns with quantization hypothesis and explore its promising potential through empirical testing.
