Hadronic molecules

A large number of experimental discoveries especially in the heavy quarkonium sector that did not at all fit to the expectations of the until then very successful quark model led to a renaissance of hadron spectroscopy. Among various explanations of the internal structure of these excitations, hadronic molecules, being analogues of light nuclei, play a unique role since for those predictions can be made with controlled uncertainty. We review experimental evidences of various candidates of hadronic molecules, and methods of identifying such structures. Nonrelativistic effective field theories are the suitable framework for studying hadronic molecules, and are discussed in both the continuum and finite volumes. Also pertinent lattice QCD results are presented. Further, we discuss the production mechanisms and decays of hadronic molecules, and comment on the reliability of certain assertions often made in the literature.

Towards the establishment of the light $J^{P(C)}=1^{-(+)}$ hybrid nonet

The observation of the light hybrid candidate $η_1(1855)$ by the BESIII Collaboration brings great opportunities for advancing our knowledges about exotic hadrons in the light flavor sector. We show that this observation provides a crucial clue for establishing the $J^{P(C)}=1^{-(+)}$ hybrid nonet. Based on the flux tube model picture, the production and decay mechanisms for the $J^{P(C)}=1^{-(+)}$ hybrid nonet in the $J/ψ$ radiative decays into two pseudoscalar mesons are investigated. In the $I=0$ sector, we find that the SU(3) flavor octet and singlet mixing is non-negligible and apparently deviates from the flavor ideal mixing. Since only signals for one isoscalar $η_1(1855)$ are observed in the $ηη'$ channel, we investigate two schemes of the nonet structure in which $η_1(1855)$ can be either the higher or lower mass state that strongly couples to $ηη'$. Possible channels for detecting the multiplets are suggested. In particular, a combined analysis of the hybrid production in $J/ψ\to VH$, where $V$ and $H$ stand for the light vector mesons and $1^{-(+)}$ hybrid states, may provide further evidence for this nonet structure and finally establish these mysterious exotic species in experiment.

Nuclear mass table in deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum: I. even-even nuclei

Ground-state properties of even-even nuclei with $8\le Z\le120$ from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line have been investigated using the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) with the density functional PC-PK1. With the effects of deformation and continuum included simultaneously, 2583 even-even nuclei are predicted to be bound. The calculated binding energies, two-nucleon separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, and neutron and proton Fermi surfaces are tabulated and compared with available experimental data. The rms deviation from the 637 mass data is 1.518 MeV, providing one of the best microscopic descriptions for nuclear masses. The drip lines obtained from DRHBc calculations are compared with other calculations, including the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) and triaxial relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (TRHB) calculations with PC-PK1. The deformation and continuum effects on the limits of the nuclear landscape are discussed. Possible peninsulas consisting of bound nuclei beyond the two-neutron drip line are predicted. The systematics of the two-nucleon separation energies, two-nucleon gaps, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron densities, neutron mean-field potentials, and pairing energies in the DRHBc calculations are also discussed. In addition, the $α$ decay energies extracted are in good agreement with available data.

Higher mass spectra of the fully-charmed and fully-bottom tetraquarks

In this work, we calculate the higher mass spectra for the $2S$- and $1D$-wave fully-charmed and fully-bottom tetraquark states in a nonrelativistic potential quark model. The $2S$-wave fully-charmed/bottom tetraquark states lie in the mass range of $\sim (6.9,7.1)$/$(19.7,19.9)$ GeV, apart for the highest $0^{++}$ state $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})0^{++}}(7185)$/ $T_{(bb\bar{b}\bar{b})0^{++}}(19976)$. Most of the $2S$-wave states highly overlap with the high-lying $1P$-wave states. The masses for the $1D$-wave fully-charmed/bottom tetraquarks are predicted to be in the range of $\sim (6.7,7.2)/(19.5,20.0)$ GeV. The mass range for the $D$-wave tetraquark states cover most of the mass range of the $P$-wave states and the whole mass range of the $2S$-wave states. The narrow structure $X(6900)$ recently observed at LHCb in the di-$J/ψ$ invariant mass spectrum may be caused by the $1P$-, or $2S$-, or $1D$-wave $T_{cc\bar{c}\bar{c}}$ states. The vague structure $X(7200)$ may be caused by the highest $2S$-wave state $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})0^{++}}(7185)$, two low-lying $3S$-wave states $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})0^{++}}(7240)$ and $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})2^{++}}(7248)$, and/or the high-lying $1D$-wave states with masses around 7.2 GeV and $J^{PC}=0^{++},1^{++},2^{++},3^{++}$, or $4^{++}$. While it is apparent that the potential quark model calculations predict more states than the structures observed in the di-$J/ψ$ invariant mass spectrum, our calculations will help further understanding of the properties of these fully-heavy tetraquark states in their strong and magnetic interactions with open channels based on explicit quark model wave functions.

Exciting Magnetic Dipole Mode of Split Ring Plasmonic Nano Resonator by Photonic Crystal Nanocavity

On chip exciting electric modes in individual plasmonic nanostructures are realized widely; nevertheless, the excitation of their magnetic counterparts is seldom reported. Here, we propose a highly efficient on chip excitation approach of the magnetic dipole mode of an individual split ring resonator (SRR) by integrating it onto a photonic crystal nanocavity (PCNC). A high excitation efficiency of up to 58% is realized through the resonant coupling between the modes of the SRR and PCNC. A further fine adjustment of the excited magnetic dipole mode is demonstrated by tuning the relative position and twist angle between the SRR and PCNC. Finally, a structure with a photonic crystal waveguide side coupled with the hybrid SRR PCNC is illustrated, which could excite the magnetic dipole mode with an in plane coupling geometry and potentially facilitate the future device application. Our result may open a way for developing chip integrated photonic devices employing a magnetic field component in the optical field.

Study of heavy quark conserving weak decays in the quark model

Within the framework of a constituent quark model, we investigate the heavy quark conserving weak decays of $Ξ_c$ and $Ξ_b$. This process involves elementary transitions of $us\to du$ or $s\to ud \bar u$ with the heavy quark as a spectator, while for the charmed baryon in the initial state it can also occur via $cs\to dc$ to conserve the heavy quark flavor in the weak decays. It shows that the heavy quark symmetry (HQS) plays an essential role in the processes where the heavy quark acts as a spectator. For the $Ξ_c$ decays, the dominance of the pole terms in the parity-conserving transitions is evident. This can naturally explain the sizeable branching ratio for $Ξ_c^0\toΛ_cπ^-$ as recently reported by LHCb. The same mechanism predicts a large branching ratio for $Ξ_c^+\toΛ_cπ^0$. In contrast, the decays of $Ξ_b$ will only go through the parity-violating processes because of the HQS. In addition, the branching ratios of the $Ξ_c^+\to Λ_c π^0$ and $Ξ_b^0\to Λ_b π^0$ processes are also predicted for the further experimental measurement.

Nature of $X(6900)$ and its production mechanism at LHCb

We show that the Pomeron exchanges play a unique role in vector charmonium scatterings. Such a mechanism can provide a natural explanation for the nontrivial structures in the di-$J/ψ$ spectrum observed by the LHCb Collaboration. The narrow structure $X(6900)$, as a dynamically generated resonance pole, can arise from the Pomeron exchanges and coupled-channel effects between the $J/ψ$-$J/ψ$, $J/ψ$-$ψ(2S)$ scatterings. A pole structure near the di-$J/ψ$ threshold is also found. Meanwhile, we predict that $X(6900)$ can produce significant threshold enhancement in the $J/ψ$-$ψ(2S)$ energy spectrum which can be searched for at LHCb.

A novel approach to reducing information leakage for quantum key distribution

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is an important branch of quantum information science as it holds promise for unconditionally secure communication. For QKD research, a central issue is to improve the final secure key rate (SKR) and the maximal transmission distance. To address this issue, most works focused on reducing the information leakage of QKD. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to further reduce the information leakage by specially considering the overlap between the information leakage of quantum part and post-processing part. The overlap means that the information leakage of post-processing part caused solely by multi-photon pulses is considered twice in previous studies, i.e., both in quantum part and post-processing part. Since the information carried by multi-photon pulses has been considered as completely known by Eve through the photon-number-splitting attack in quantum part, there is no need to consider it in post-processing part repetitively during the SKR calculation. Therefore, our approach can theoretically reduce the information leakage of a QKD protocol. Based on this idea, we derive the formulas to calculate the amount of information leakage for decoy-BB84 and sending-or-not-sending twin-field protocols. Simulation results for these two typical protocols also demonstrate that our approach evidently improves the SKR as well as the maximal transmission distance under practical experimental parameters.

Plant-Protein-Enabled Biodegradable Triboelectric Nanogenerator for Sustainable Agriculture

As the use of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) increases, the generation of related electronic waste has been a major challenge. Therefore, the development of environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and low-cost TENGs must be prioritized. Having discovered that plant proteins, by-products of grain processing, possess excellent triboelectric properties, we explore these properties by evaluating the protein structure. The proteins are recycled to fabricate triboelectric layers, and the triboelectric series according to electrical properties is determined for the first time. Using a special structure design, we construct a plant-protein-enabled biodegradable TENG by integrating a polylactic acid film, which is used as a new type of mulch film to construct a growth-promoting system that generates space electric fields for agriculture. Thus, from the plant protein to the crop, a sustainable recycling loop is implemented. Using bean seedlings as a model to confirm the feasibility of the mulch film, we further use it in the cultivation of greenhouse vegetables. Experimental results demonstrate the applicability of the proposed plant-protein-enabled biodegradable TENG in sustainable agriculture.

Unbiased IoU for Spherical Image Object Detection

As one of the most fundamental and challenging problems in computer vision, object detection tries to locate object instances and find their categories in natural images. The most important step in the evaluation of object detection algorithm is calculating the intersection-over-union (IoU) between the predicted bounding box and the ground truth one. Although this procedure is well-defined and solved for planar images, it is not easy for spherical image object detection. Existing methods either compute the IoUs based on biased bounding box representations or make excessive approximations, thus would give incorrect results. In this paper, we first identify that spherical rectangles are unbiased bounding boxes for objects in spherical images, and then propose an analytical method for IoU calculation without any approximations. Based on the unbiased representation and calculation, we also present an anchor free object detection algorithm for spherical images. The experiments on two spherical object detection datasets show that the proposed method can achieve better performance than existing methods.

A Photonics-based superheterodyne RF reception approach

A novel photonics-based RF reception approach is proposed as a competitive solution to meet the current challenges of photonic-based approaches and to realize high performances at the same time. The proposed approach adopts the superheterodyne configuration by a combination manner of electronic techniques and photonic techniques, including the ultrawideband generation of optical LO, the two-stage photonic superheterodyne frequency conversion and the real-time IF compensation. An engineering prototype has been developed and its performance has been evaluated in the laboratory environment. The experiment results preliminarily verify the feasibility of the proposed approach and its engineering potential. The typical performances are as follows: 0.1 GHz~ 45GHz operation spectrum range (>40 GHz), 900 MHz instantaneous bandwidth, 101 dBHz2/3 SFDR and 130 dBHz LDR, image rejections of ~80 dB for 1st frequency conversion and >90 dB for 2nd frequency conversion.

Fully-strange tetraquark $ss\bar{s}\bar{s}$ spectrum and possible experimental evidence

In this work we construct 36 tetraquark configurations for the $1S$-, $1P$-, and $2S$-wave states, and make a prediction of the mass spectrum for the tetraquark $ss\bar{s}\bar{s}$ system in the framework of a nonrelativistic potential quark model without the diquark-antidiquark approximation. The model parameters are well determined by our previous study of the strangeonium spectrum. We find that the resonances $f_0(2200)$ and $f_2(2340)$ may favor the assignments of ground states $T_{(ss\bar{s}\bar{s})0^{++}}(2218)$ and $T_{(ss\bar{s}\bar{s})2^{++}}(2378)$, respectively, and the newly observed $X(2500)$ at BESIII may be a candidate of the lowest mass $1P$-wave $0^{-+}$ state $T_{(ss\bar{s}\bar{s})0^{-+}}(2481)$. Signals for the other $0^{++}$ ground state $T_{(ss\bar{s}\bar{s})0^{++}}(2440)$ may also have been observed in the $ϕϕ$ invariant mass spectrum in $J/ψ\toγϕϕ$ at BESIII. The masses of the $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ $T_{ss\bar{s}\bar{s}}$ states are predicted to be in the range of $\sim 2.44-2.99$ GeV, which indicates that the $ϕ(2170)$ resonance may not be a good candidate of the $T_{ss\bar{s}\bar{s}}$ state. This study may provide a useful guidance for searching for the $T_{ss\bar{s}\bar{s}}$ states in experiments.

Fano resonance from a one-dimensional topological photonic crystal

An ultra-compact one-dimensional topological photonic crystal (1D-TPC) is designed in a single mode silicon bus-waveguide to generate Fano resonance lineshape. The Fano resonance comes from the interference between the discrete topological boundary state of the 1D-TPC and the continuum high-order leaky mode of the bus-waveguide. Standalone asymmetric Fano resonance lineshapes are obtained experimentally in the waveguide transmission spectrum with a maximum extinction ratio of 33 dB and a slope ratio of 10 dB/nm over a broadband flat background.

Relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock Theory in Infinite Nuclear Matter

On the way of a microscopic derivation of covariant density functionals, the first complete solution of the relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) equations is presented for symmetric nuclear matter. In most of the earlier investigations, the $G$-matrix is calculated only in the space of positive energy solutions. On the other side, for the solution of the relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) equations, also the elements of this matrix connecting positive and negative energy solutions are required. So far, in the literature, these matrix elements are derived in various approximations. We discuss solutions of the Thompson equation for the full Dirac space and compare the resulting equation of state with those of earlier attempts in this direction.

Hadronic loop effects on the radiative decays of the first radial excitations of $η$ and $η'$

Based on the one state assumption of $η(1405)$ and $η(1475)$, thus, $η(1295)$ and $η(1405/1475)$ are organized as the first radial excitations of $η$ and $η'$, respectively, we investigate the productions and radiative decays of these two states in $J/ψ\to γη_X\to γγV$, where $η_X$ stands for $η(1295)$ and $η(1405/1475)$ and $V$ for vector mesons $ρ^0, \ ω, \ ϕ$. As we have learned from previous studies that the hadronic decays of these two states receive important contributions from the intermediate $\bar{K}K^*+c.c.$ meson loops due to the triangle singularity mechanism, we show that some measurable effects can also arise from the $\bar{K}K^*+c.c.$ meson loops in their radiative decays. Our calculation shows that the impact of the $\bar{K}K^*+c.c.$ meson loops on the $η(1405/1475)$ radiative decays is relatively smaller than on $η(1295)$ since the latter has a much larger coupling to $\bar{K}K^*+c.c.$ However, the production of $η(1295)$ in the $J/ψ$ radiative decays will be strongly suppressed. As a consequence of the $\bar{K}K^*+c.c.$ meson loop contributions, we find that the mixing angle extracted in the radiative decays of $η(1295)$ and $η(1405/1475)$ will be different from each other, and both are different from the one determined in other processes.

A topological photonic ring-resonator for on-chip channel filters

A topologically protected ring-resonator formed in valley photonic crystals is proposed and fabricated on a silicon slab. The unidirectional transmission and robustness against structure defects of its resonant modes are illustrated. Coupled with topological waveguides, the topological ring is functioned as notch and channel-drop filters. The work opens up a new avenue for developing advanced chip-integrated photonic circuits with attributes of topological photonics.

Comprehensive study of light axial vector mesons with the presence of triangle singularity

We present a systematic study of the productions and decays of light axial vector mesons with $J^{PC}=1^{+\pm}$ in charmonium decays. In the quark model scenario, the two axial vector nonets are connected with each other by the Gell-Mann-Okubo mass relation through the mixing between two $K_1$ states (i.e. $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$) with configurations of $^3P_1$ and $^1P_1$. The mixing angles between $f_1$ and $f_1'$ (i.e. $f_1(1285)$ and $f_1(1420)$), and between $h_1$ and $h_1'$ (i.e. $h_1(1170)$ and $h_1(1415)$) can be reliably constrained. We then introduce the intermediate $K^*\bar{K}+c.c.$ meson loop transitions in the description of the productions and decays of these axial vector mesons. The presence of the nearby $S$-wave $K^*\bar{K}+c.c.$ to which these axial vector mesons have strong coupling strengths, turns out to be crucial for understanding many puzzling questions related to their productions and decays. This is because that the $S$-wave $K^*\bar{K}+c.c.$ rescatterings by the kaon exchange satisfy the triangle singularity (TS) condition in some of these cases and the TS mechanism can introduce special interference effects in the exclusive decays of these light axial vector mesons.

Nuclear matter in relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory with Bonn potential in the full Dirac space

Starting from the Bonn potential, relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) equations are solved for nuclear matter in the full Dirac space, which provides a unique way to determine the single-particle potentials and avoids the approximations applied in the RBHF calculations in the Dirac space with positive-energy states (PESs) only. The uncertainties of the RBHF calculations in the Dirac space with PESs only are investigated, and the importance of the RBHF calculations in the full Dirac space is demonstrated. In the RBHF calculations in the full Dirac space, the empirical saturation properties of symmetric nuclear matter are reproduced, and the obtained equation of state agrees with the results based on the relativistic Green's function approach up to the saturation density.
