Review-LLM: Harnessing Large Language Models for Personalized Review Generation

Product review generation is an important task in recommender systems, which could provide explanation and persuasiveness for the recommendation. Recently, Large Language Models (LLMs, e.g., ChatGPT) have shown superior text modeling and generating ability, which could be applied in review generation. However, directly applying the LLMs for generating reviews might be troubled by the ``polite'' phenomenon of the LLMs and could not generate personalized reviews (e.g., negative reviews). In this paper, we propose Review-LLM that customizes LLMs for personalized review generation. Firstly, we construct the prompt input by aggregating user historical behaviors, which include corresponding item titles and reviews. This enables the LLMs to capture user interest features and review writing style. Secondly, we incorporate ratings as indicators of satisfaction into the prompt, which could further improve the model's understanding of user preferences and the sentiment tendency control of generated reviews. Finally, we feed the prompt text into LLMs, and use Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) to make the model generate personalized reviews for the given user and target item. Experimental results on the real-world dataset show that our fine-tuned model could achieve better review generation performance than existing close-source LLMs.

Mini Honor of Kings: A Lightweight Environment for Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning

Games are widely used as research environments for multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), but they pose three significant challenges: limited customization, high computational demands, and oversimplification. To address these issues, we introduce the first publicly available map editor for the popular mobile game Honor of Kings and design a lightweight environment, Mini Honor of Kings (Mini HoK), for researchers to conduct experiments. Mini HoK is highly efficient, allowing experiments to be run on personal PCs or laptops while still presenting sufficient challenges for existing MARL algorithms. We have tested our environment on common MARL algorithms and demonstrated that these algorithms have yet to find optimal solutions within this environment. This facilitates the dissemination and advancement of MARL methods within the research community. Additionally, we hope that more researchers will leverage the Honor of Kings map editor to develop innovative and scientifically valuable new maps. Our code and user manual are available at: https://github.com/tencent-ailab/mini-hok.

Graphs Generalization under Distribution Shifts

Traditional machine learning methods heavily rely on the independent and identically distribution assumption, which imposes limitations when the test distribution deviates from the training distribution. To address this crucial issue, out-of-distribution (OOD) generalization, which aims to achieve satisfactory generalization performance when faced with unknown distribution shifts, has made a significant process. However, the OOD method for graph-structured data currently lacks clarity and remains relatively unexplored due to two primary challenges. Firstly, distribution shifts on graphs often occur simultaneously on node attributes and graph topology. Secondly, capturing invariant information amidst diverse distribution shifts proves to be a formidable challenge. To overcome these obstacles, in this paper, we introduce a novel framework, namely Graph Learning Invariant Domain genERation (GLIDER). The goal is to (1) diversify variations across domains by modeling the potential seen or unseen variations of attribute distribution and topological structure and (2) minimize the discrepancy of the variation in a representation space where the target is to predict semantic labels. Extensive experiment results indicate that our model outperforms baseline methods on node-level OOD generalization across domains in distribution shift on node features and topological structures simultaneously.

Semantic-Constraint Matching Transformer for Weakly Supervised Object Localization

Weakly supervised object localization (WSOL) strives to learn to localize objects with only image-level supervision. Due to the local receptive fields generated by convolution operations, previous CNN-based methods suffer from partial activation issues, concentrating on the object's discriminative part instead of the entire entity scope. Benefiting from the capability of the self-attention mechanism to acquire long-range feature dependencies, Vision Transformer has been recently applied to alleviate the local activation drawbacks. However, since the transformer lacks the inductive localization bias that are inherent in CNNs, it may cause a divergent activation problem resulting in an uncertain distinction between foreground and background. In this work, we proposed a novel Semantic-Constraint Matching Network (SCMN) via a transformer to converge on the divergent activation. Specifically, we first propose a local patch shuffle strategy to construct the image pairs, disrupting local patches while guaranteeing global consistency. The paired images that contain the common object in spatial are then fed into the Siamese network encoder. We further design a semantic-constraint matching module, which aims to mine the co-object part by matching the coarse class activation maps (CAMs) extracted from the pair images, thus implicitly guiding and calibrating the transformer network to alleviate the divergent activation. Extensive experimental results conducted on two challenging benchmarks, including CUB-200-2011 and ILSVRC datasets show that our method can achieve the new state-of-the-art performance and outperform the previous method by a large margin.

Contrastive Representation Learning Based on Multiple Node-centered Subgraphs

As the basic element of graph-structured data, node has been recognized as the main object of study in graph representation learning. A single node intuitively has multiple node-centered subgraphs from the whole graph (e.g., one person in a social network has multiple social circles based on his different relationships). We study this intuition under the framework of graph contrastive learning, and propose a multiple node-centered subgraphs contrastive representation learning method to learn node representation on graphs in a self-supervised way. Specifically, we carefully design a series of node-centered regional subgraphs of the central node. Then, the mutual information between different subgraphs of the same node is maximized by contrastive loss. Experiments on various real-world datasets and different downstream tasks demonstrate that our model has achieved state-of-the-art results.

High quality and wafer-scale cubic silicon carbide single crystals

Silicon carbide (SiC) is an important semiconductor material for fabricating power electronic devices that exhibit higher switch frequency, lower energy loss and substantial reduction both in size and weight in comparison with its Si-based counterparts1-4. Currently, most devices, such as metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors, which are core devices used in electric vehicles, photovoltaic industry and other applications, are fabricated on a hexagonal polytype 4H-SiC because of its commercial availability5. Cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC), the only cubic polytype, has a moderate band gap of 2.36 eV at room-temperature, but a superior mobility and thermal conduction than 4H-SiC4,6-11. Moreover, the much lower concentration of interfacial traps between insulating oxide gate and 3C-SiC helps fabricate reliable and long-life devices7-10,12-14. The growth of 3C-SiC crystals, however, has remained a challenge up to now despite of decades-long efforts by researchers because of its easy transformation into other polytypes during growth15-19, limiting the 3C-SiC based devices. Here, we report that 3C-SiC can be made thermodynamically favored from nucleation to growth on a 4H-SiC substrate by top-seeded solution growth technique(TSSG), beyond what's expected by classic nucleation theory. This enables the steady growth of quality and large sized 3C-SiC crystals (2~4-inch in diameter and 4.0~10.0 mm in thickness) sustainable. Our findings broaden the mechanism of hetero-seed crystal growth and provide a feasible route to mass production of 3C-SiC crystals, offering new opportunities to develop power electronic devices potentially with better performances than those based on 4H-SiC.

Probing the electronic topological transitions of WTe2 under pressure using ultrafast spectroscopy

We investigate the nonequilibrium photocarrier dynamics of WTe2 under pressure using the optical pump-probe spectroscopy. The pressure dependences of the electronic relaxation manifest anomalous changes around 0.8, 3.5, and 6 GPa, indicating the abruptions in the electron-phonon interactions. In addition, the coherent phonon oscillations originating from shear mode suddenly disappears above 3.5 GPa, which marks the onset of Td-1T' structural phase transition. Supported by the theoretical calculation, we unveil the electronic topological transitions (ETTs), especially an emergence of a new type-II Weyl point for Td-WTe2 under pressure. Our work demonstrates a novel route to probe the ETTs under pressure.

FadMan: Federated Anomaly Detection across Multiple Attributed Networks

Anomaly subgraph detection has been widely used in various applications, ranging from cyber attack in computer networks to malicious activities in social networks. Despite an increasing need for federated anomaly detection across multiple attributed networks, only a limited number of approaches are available for this problem. Federated anomaly detection faces two major challenges. One is that isolated data in most industries are restricted share with others for data privacy and security. The other is most of the centralized approaches training based on data integration. The main idea of federated anomaly detection is aligning private anomalies from local data owners on the public anomalies from the attributed network in the server through public anomalies to federate local anomalies. In each private attributed network, the detected anomaly subgraph is aligned with an anomaly subgraph in the public attributed network. The significant public anomaly subgraphs are selected for federated private anomalies while preventing local private data leakage. The proposed algorithm FadMan is a vertical federated learning framework for public node aligned with many private nodes of different features, and is validated on two tasks correlated anomaly detection on multiple attributed networks and anomaly detection on an attributeless network using five real-world datasets. In the first scenario, FadMan outperforms competitive methods by at least 12% accuracy at 10% noise level. In the second scenario, by analyzing the distribution of abnormal nodes, we find that the nodes of traffic anomalies are associated with the event of postgraduate entrance examination on the same day.

Large time behavior of solutions to a diffusion approximation radiation hydrodynamics model

This paper concerns with the large time behavior of solutions to a diffusion approximation radiation hydrodynamics model when the initial data is a small perturbation around an equilibrium state. The global-in-time well-posedness of solutions is achieved in Sobolev spaces depending on the Littlewood-Paley decomposition technique together with certain elaborate energy estimates in frequency space. Moreover, the optimal decay rate of the solution is also yielded provided the initial data also satisfy an additional $L^1$ condition. Meanwhile, the similar results of the diffusion approximation system without the thermal conductivity could be also established.

DHEN: A Deep and Hierarchical Ensemble Network for Large-Scale Click-Through Rate Prediction

Learning feature interactions is important to the model performance of online advertising services. As a result, extensive efforts have been devoted to designing effective architectures to learn feature interactions. However, we observe that the practical performance of those designs can vary from dataset to dataset, even when the order of interactions claimed to be captured is the same. That indicates different designs may have different advantages and the interactions captured by them have non-overlapping information. Motivated by this observation, we propose DHEN - a deep and hierarchical ensemble architecture that can leverage strengths of heterogeneous interaction modules and learn a hierarchy of the interactions under different orders. To overcome the challenge brought by DHEN's deeper and multi-layer structure in training, we propose a novel co-designed training system that can further improve the training efficiency of DHEN. Experiments of DHEN on large-scale dataset from CTR prediction tasks attained 0.27\% improvement on the Normalized Entropy (NE) of prediction and 1.2x better training throughput than state-of-the-art baseline, demonstrating their effectiveness in practice.

Representation Learning on Heterostructures via Heterogeneous Anonymous Walks

Capturing structural similarity has been a hot topic in the field of network embedding recently due to its great help in understanding the node functions and behaviors. However, existing works have paid very much attention to learning structures on homogeneous networks while the related study on heterogeneous networks is still a void. In this paper, we try to take the first step for representation learning on heterostructures, which is very challenging due to their highly diverse combinations of node types and underlying structures. To effectively distinguish diverse heterostructures, we firstly propose a theoretically guaranteed technique called heterogeneous anonymous walk (HAW) and its variant coarse HAW (CHAW). Then, we devise the heterogeneous anonymous walk embedding (HAWE) and its variant coarse HAWE in a data-driven manner to circumvent using an extremely large number of possible walks and train embeddings by predicting occurring walks in the neighborhood of each node. Finally, we design and apply extensive and illustrative experiments on synthetic and real-world networks to build a benchmark on heterostructure learning and evaluate the effectiveness of our methods. The results demonstrate our methods achieve outstanding performance compared with both homogeneous and heterogeneous classic methods, and can be applied on large-scale networks.

ANOMALYMAXQ:Anomaly-Structured Maximization to Query in Attributed Network

The detection of anomaly subgraphs naturally appears in various real-life tasks, yet label noise seriously interferes with the result. As a motivation for our work, we focus on inaccurate supervision and use prior knowledge to reduce effects of noise, like query graphs. Anomalies in attributed networks exhibit structured-properties, e.g., anomaly in money laundering with "ring structure" property. It is the main challenge to fast and approximate query anomaly in attributed networks. We propose a novel search method: 1) decomposing a query graph into stars; 2) sorting attributed vertices; and 3) assembling anomaly stars under the root vertex sequence into near query. We present ANOMALYMAXQ and perform on 68,411 company network (Tianyancha dataset),7.72m patent networks (Company patents) and so on. Extensive experiments show that our method has high robustness and fast response time. When running the patent dataset, the average running time to query the graph once is about 252 seconds.

The Cauchy problem for an inviscid Oldroyd-B model in $\mathbb{R}^3$

In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for an inviscid compressible Oldroyd-B model in three dimensions. The global well posedness of strong solutions and the associated time-decay estimates in Sobolev spaces are established near an equilibrium state. The vanishing of viscosity is the main challenge compared with our previous work [47] where the viscosity coefficients are included and the decay rates for the highest-order derivatives of the solutions seem not optimal. One of the main objectives of this paper is to develop some new dissipative estimates such that the smallness of the initial data and decay rates are independent of the viscosity. In addition, it proves that the decay rates for the highest-order derivatives of the solutions are optimal. Our proof relies on Fourier theory and delicate energy method. This work can be viewed as an extension of [47].

A Genetic Algorithm with Tree-structured Mutation for Hyperparameter Optimisation of Graph Neural Networks

In recent years, graph neural networks (GNNs) have gained increasing attention, as they possess the excellent capability of processing graph-related problems. In practice, hyperparameter optimisation (HPO) is critical for GNNs to achieve satisfactory results, but this process is costly because the evaluations of different hyperparameter settings require excessively training many GNNs. Many approaches have been proposed for HPO, which aims to identify promising hyperparameters efficiently. In particular, the genetic algorithm (GA) for HPO has been explored, which treats GNNs as a black-box model, of which only the outputs can be observed given a set of hyperparameters. However, because GNN models are sophisticated and the evaluations of hyperparameters on GNNs are expensive, GA requires advanced techniques to balance the exploration and exploitation of the search and make the optimisation more effective given limited computational resources. Therefore, we proposed a tree-structured mutation strategy for GA to alleviate this issue. Meanwhile, we reviewed the recent HPO works, which gives room for the idea of tree-structure to develop, and we hope our approach can further improve these HPO methods in the future.

A Systematic Comparison Study on Hyperparameter Optimisation of Graph Neural Networks for Molecular Property Prediction

Graph neural networks (GNNs) have been proposed for a wide range of graph-related learning tasks. In particular, in recent years, an increasing number of GNN systems were applied to predict molecular properties. However, a direct impediment is to select appropriate hyperparameters to achieve satisfactory performance with lower computational cost. Meanwhile, many molecular datasets are far smaller than many other datasets in typical deep learning applications. Most hyperparameter optimization (HPO) methods have not been explored in terms of their efficiencies on such small datasets in the molecular domain. In this paper, we conducted a theoretical analysis of common and specific features for two state-of-the-art and popular algorithms for HPO: TPE and CMA-ES, and we compared them with random search (RS), which is used as a baseline. Experimental studies are carried out on several benchmarks in MoleculeNet, from different perspectives to investigate the impact of RS, TPE, and CMA-ES on HPO of GNNs for molecular property prediction. In our experiments, we concluded that RS, TPE, and CMA-ES have their individual advantages in tackling different specific molecular problems. Finally, we believe our work will motivate further research on GNN as applied to molecular machine learning problems in chemistry and materials sciences.

Which Hyperparameters to Optimise? An Investigation of Evolutionary Hyperparameter Optimisation in Graph Neural Network For Molecular Property Prediction

Recently, the study of graph neural network (GNN) has attracted much attention and achieved promising performance in molecular property prediction. Most GNNs for molecular property prediction are proposed based on the idea of learning the representations for the nodes by aggregating the information of their neighbor nodes (e.g. atoms). Then, the representations can be passed to subsequent layers to deal with individual downstream tasks. Therefore, the architectures of GNNs can be considered as being composed of two core parts: graph-related layers and task-specific layers. Facing real-world molecular problems, the hyperparameter optimization for those layers are vital. Hyperparameter optimization (HPO) becomes expensive in this situation because evaluating candidate solutions requires massive computational resources to train and validate models. Furthermore, a larger search space often makes the HPO problems more challenging. In this research, we focus on the impact of selecting two types of GNN hyperparameters, those belonging to graph-related layers and those of task-specific layers, on the performance of GNN for molecular property prediction. In our experiments. we employed a state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithm (i.e., CMA-ES) for HPO. The results reveal that optimizing the two types of hyperparameters separately can gain the improvements on GNNs' performance, but optimising both types of hyperparameters simultaneously will lead to predominant improvements. Meanwhile, our study also further confirms the importance of HPO for GNNs in molecular property prediction problems.

HeterSkinNet: A Heterogeneous Network for Skin Weights Prediction

Character rigging is universally needed in computer graphics but notoriously laborious. We present a new method, HeterSkinNet, aiming to fully automate such processes and significantly boost productivity. Given a character mesh and skeleton as input, our method builds a heterogeneous graph that treats the mesh vertices and the skeletal bones as nodes of different types and uses graph convolutions to learn their relationships. To tackle the graph heterogeneity, we propose a new graph network convolution operator that transfers information between heterogeneous nodes. The convolution is based on a new distance HollowDist that quantifies the relations between mesh vertices and bones. We show that HeterSkinNet is robust for production characters by providing the ability to incorporate meshes and skeletons with arbitrary topologies and morphologies (e.g., out-of-body bones, disconnected mesh components, etc.). Through exhaustive comparisons, we show that HeterSkinNet outperforms state-of-the-art methods by large margins in terms of rigging accuracy and naturalness. HeterSkinNet provides a solution for effective and robust character rigging.

A Novel Genetic Algorithm with Hierarchical Evaluation Strategy for Hyperparameter Optimisation of Graph Neural Networks

Graph representation of structured data can facilitate the extraction of stereoscopic features, and it has demonstrated excellent ability when working with deep learning systems, the so-called Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). Choosing a promising architecture for constructing GNNs can be transferred to a hyperparameter optimisation problem, a very challenging task due to the size of the underlying search space and high computational cost for evaluating candidate GNNs. To address this issue, this research presents a novel genetic algorithm with a hierarchical evaluation strategy (HESGA), which combines the full evaluation of GNNs with a fast evaluation approach. By using full evaluation, a GNN is represented by a set of hyperparameter values and trained on a specified dataset, and root mean square error (RMSE) will be used to measure the quality of the GNN represented by the set of hyperparameter values (for regression problems). While in the proposed fast evaluation process, the training will be interrupted at an early stage, the difference of RMSE values between the starting and interrupted epochs will be used as a fast score, which implies the potential of the GNN being considered. To coordinate both types of evaluations, the proposed hierarchical strategy uses the fast evaluation in a lower level for recommending candidates to a higher level, where the full evaluation will act as a final assessor to maintain a group of elite individuals. To validate the effectiveness of HESGA, we apply it to optimise two types of deep graph neural networks. The experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate its advantages compared to Bayesian hyperparameter optimization.
