Information Theory and Statistical Mechanics Revisited

We derive Bose-Einstein statistics and Fermi-Dirac statistics by Principle of Maximum Entropy applied to two families of entropy functions different from the Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon entropy. These entropy functions are identified with special cases of modified Naudts' $ϕ$-entropy.

Extremely large and significantly anisotropic magnetoresistance in ZrSiS single crystals

Recently, the extremely large magnetoresistance observed in transition metal telluride, like WTe$_2$, attracted much attention because of the potential applications in magnetic sensor. Here we report the observation of extremely large magnetoresistance as 3.0$\times$10$^4$ % measured at 2 K and 9 T magnetic field aligned along [001]-ZrSiS. The significant magnetoresistance change (~1.4$\times$10$^4$ %) can be obtained when the magnetic field is titled from [001] to [011]-ZrSiS. These abnormal magnetoresistance behaviors in ZrSiS can be understood by electron-hole compensation and the open orbital of Fermi surface. Because of these superior MR properties, ZrSiS may be used in the novel magnetic sensors.

The evolution of the small x gluon TMD

We study the evolution of the small $x$ gluon transverse momentum dependent(TMD) distribution in the dilute limit. The calculation has been carried out in the Ji-Ma-Yuan scheme using a simple quark target model. As expected, we find that the resulting small $x$ gluon TMD simultaneously satisfies both the Collins-Soper(CS) evolution equation and the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov(BFKL) evolution equation. We thus confirmed the earlier finding that the high energy factorization(HEF) and the TMD factorization should be jointly employed to resum the different type large logarithms in a process where three relevant scales are well separated.

Single spin asymmetries from a single Wilson loop

We study the leading-power gluon transverse momentum dependent distributions (TMDs) of relevance to the study of asymmetries in the scattering off transversely polarized hadrons. Next-to-leading-order perturbative calculations of these TMDs show that at large transverse momentum they have common dynamical origins, but that in the limit of small longitudinal momentum fraction $x$ only one origin remains. We find that in this limit only the dipole-type gluon TMDs survive and become identical to each other. At small $x$ they are all given by the expectation value of a single Wilson loop inside the transversely polarized hadron, the so-called spin-dependent odderon. This universal origin of transverse spin asymmetries at small $x$ is of importance to current and future experimental studies, paving the way to a better understanding of the role of gluons in the three-dimensional structure of spin-polarized protons.

Quantum topological Hall effect and noncoplanar antiferromagnetism in K$_{0.5}$RhO$_2$

Quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) phase is a two-dimensional bulk ferromagnetic insulator with a nonzero Chern number in presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) but absence of applied magnetic fields. Associated metallic chiral edge states host dissipationless current transport in electronic devices. This intriguing QAH phase has recently been observed in magnetic impurity-doped topological insulators, {\it albeit}, at extremely low temperatures. Based on first-principles density functional calculations, here we predict that layered rhodium oxide K$_{0.5}$RhO$_2$ in noncoplanar chiral antiferromagnetic state is an unconventional three-dimensional QAH insulator with a large band gap and a Neel temperature of a few tens Kelvins. Furthermore, this unconventional QAH phase is revealed to be the exotic quantum topological Hall effect caused by nonzero scalar spin chirality due to the topological spin structure in the system and without the need of net magnetization and SOC.

Continuous-variable measurement-device-independent multipartite quantum communication

A continuous variable measurement device independent multi-party quantum communication protocol is investigated in this paper. Utilizing distributed continuous variable Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state, this protocol can implement both quantum cryptographic conference and quantum secret sharing. We analyze the security of the protocol against both entangling cloner attack and coherent attack. Entangling cloner attack is a practical individual attack, and coherent attack is the optimal attack Eve can implement. Simulation results show that coherent attack can greatly reduce the secret key rate. Different kinds of entangled attacks are compared and we finally discuss the optimal coherent attacks.

Robust topological edge states at the perfect surface step edge of topological insulator ZrTe$_5$

We report an atomic-scale characterization of ZrTe$_5$ by using scanning tunneling microscopy. We observe a bulk bandgap of ~80 meV with topological edge states at the step edge, and thus demonstrate ZrTe$_5$ is a two dimensional topological insulator. It is also found that an applied magnetic field induces energetic splitting and spatial separation of the topological edge states, which can be attributed to a strong link between the topological edge states and bulk topology. The perfect surface steps and relatively large bandgap make ZrTe$_5$ be a potential candidate for future fundamental studies and device applications.

Node-Surface and Node-Line Fermions From Nonsymmorphic Lattice Symmetries

We propose a kind of novel topological quantum state of semimetals in a quasi-one-dimensional (1D) crystals BaMX$_3$ (M = V, Nb or Ta; X = S or Se) family by using symmetry analysis and first principles calculation. We find that in BaVS$_3$ the valence and conduction bands are degenerate in the $k_z=π/c$ plane ($c$ is the lattice constant along $\hat{z}$ axis) of the Brillouin Zone (BZ). These nodal points form a node-surface and they are protected by a nonsymmorphic crystal symmetry consisting of a two-fold rotation about the $\hat{z}$ axis and a half-translation along the same $\hat{z}$ axis. The band degeneracy in the node-surface is lifted in BaTaS$_3$ by including strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) of Ta. The node-surface is reduced into 1D node-lines along the high-symmetry paths $k_x=0$ and $k_x$ = $\pm{\sqrt{3}}k_y$ on the $k_z=π/c$ plane. These node-lines are robust against SOC and guaranteed by the symmetries of $P6_3/mmc$ space group. These node-line states are entirely different from previous proposals which are based on the accidental band touchings. We also propose a useful material design for realizing topological node-surface and node-line semimetals.

Emergent Geometry of KP Hierarchy. II

We elaborate on a construction of quantum LG superpotential associated to a tau-function of the KP hierarchy in the case that resulting quantum spectral curve lies in the quantum two-torus. This construction is applied to Hurwitz numbers, one-legged topological vertex and resolved conifold with external D-brane to give a natural explanation of some earlier work on the relevant quantum curves.

Emergent Geometry of KP Hierarchy

We explain how to construct a quantum deformation of a spectral curve to a tau-function of the KP hierarchy. This construction is applied to Witten-Kontsevich tau-function to give a natural explanation of some earlier work. We also apply it to higher Weil-Petersson volumes and Witten's r-spin intersection numbers.

Tunable interaction of superconducting flux qubits in circuit QED

We propose to implement tunable interaction of superconducting flux qubits with cavity-assisted interaction and strong driving. The qubits have a three-level Lambda configuration, and the decay of the excited state will be greatly suppressed due to the effective large detuning. The implemented interaction is insensitive to the cavity field state and can be controlled by modulating the phase difference of the driving fields of the qubits. In particular, our scheme is based on the typical circuit QED setup and thus will provide a simple method towards the tunable interaction of superconducting qubits. Finally, we consider the generation of two and four qubits entangled states with the constructed interaction under the influence of typical decoherence effects.

On Regularized Elliptic Genera of ALE Spaces

We define regularized elliptic genera of ALE space of type A by taking some regularized nonequivariant limits of their equivariant elliptic genera with respect to some torus actions. They turn out to be multiples of the elliptic genus of a K3 surface.

On Equivariant Elliptic Genera of Toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds

We show that equivariant elliptic genera of toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds are generalized weak Jacobi forms. We also introduce a notion of averaged equivariant elliptic genera of toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds, and show that they are ordinary weak Jacobi forms given by an explicit formula predicted by Eguchi and Sugawara.

First-Principles Study of Lattice Thermal Conductivity of Td-WTe2

The structural and thermal properties of bulk Td-WTe2 have been studied by using first-principles calculations. We find that the lattice thermal conductivity of WTe2 is anisotropic, with the highest value along a-axis and lowest one along the c-axis at 300 K. Our calculated size dependent thermal conductivity shows that nanostructuring of WTe2 can possibly further decrease the lattice thermal conductivity. Such extremely low thermal conductivity, even much lower than WSe2, makes WTe2 attractive for use as thermal-insulation material for thermoelectric devices.

Large magneto-optical Kerr effect in noncollinear antiferromagnets Mn$_{3}X$ ($X$ = Rh, Ir, or Pt)

Magneto-optical Kerr effect, normally found in magnetic materials with nonzero magnetization such as ferromagnets and ferrimagnets, has been known for more than a century. Here, using first-principles density functional theory, we demonstrate large magneto-optical Kerr effect in high temperature noncollinear antiferromagnets Mn$_{3}X$ ($X$ = Rh, Ir, or Pt), in contrast to usual wisdom. The calculated Kerr rotation angles are large, being comparable to that of transition metal magnets such as bcc Fe. The large Kerr rotation angles and ellipticities are found to originate from the lifting of the band double-degeneracy due to the absence of spatial symmetry in the Mn$_{3}X$ noncollinear antiferromagnets which together with the time-reversal symmetry would preserve the Kramers theorem. Our results indicate that Mn$_{3}X$ would provide a rare material platform for exploration of subtle magneto-optical phenomena in noncollinear magnetic materials without net magnetization.

Universal holonomic quantum gates in decoherence-free subspace on superconducting circuits

To implement a set of universal quantum logic gates based on non-Abelian geometric phases, it is a conventional wisdom that quantum systems beyond two levels are required, which is extremely difficult to fulfil for superconducting qubits, appearing to be a main reason why only single qubit gates was implemented in a recent experiment [A. A. Abdumalikov Jr \emph{et al}., Nature 496, 482 (2013)]. Here we propose to realize non-adiabatic holonomic quantum computation in decoherence-free subspace on circuit QED, where one can use only the two levels in transmon qubits, a usual interaction, and a minimal resource for the decoherence-free subspace encoding. In particular, our scheme not only overcomes the difficulties encountered in previous studies, but also can still achieve considerably large effective coupling strength, such that high fidelity quantum gates can be achieved. Therefore, the present scheme makes it very promising way to realize robust holonomic quantum computation with superconducting circuits.
