Secure and practical multiparty quantum digital signatures

Quantum digital signatures (QDSs) promise information-theoretic security against repudiation and forgery of messages. Compared with currently existing three-party QDS protocols, multiparty protocols have unique advantages in the practical case of more than two receivers when sending a mass message. However, complex security analysis, numerous quantum channels and low data utilization efficiency make it intractable to expand three-party to multiparty scenario. Here, based on six-state non-orthogonal encoding protocol, we propose an effective multiparty QDS framework to overcome these difficulties. The number of quantum channels in our protocol only linearly depends on the number of users. The post-matching method is introduced to enhance data utilization efficiency and make it linearly scale with the probability of detection events even for five-party scenario. Our work compensates for the absence of practical multiparty protocols, which paves the way for future QDS networks.

Differential Phase Shift Quantum Secret Sharing Using a Twin Field with Asymmetric Source Intensities

As an essential application of quantum mechanics in classical cryptography, quantum secret sharing has become an indispensable component of quantum internet. Recently, a differential phase shift quantum secret sharing protocol using a twin field has been proposed to break the linear rate-distance boundary. However, this original protocol has a poor performance over channels with asymmetric transmittances. To make it more practical, we present a differential phase shift quantum secret sharing protocol with asymmetric source intensities and give the security proof of our protocol against individual attacks. Taking finite-key effects into account, our asymmetric protocol can theoretically obtain the key rate two orders of magnitude higher than that of the original protocol when the difference in length between Alice's channel and Bob's is fixed at 14 km. Moreover, our protocol can provide a high key rate even when the difference is quite large and has great robustness against finite-key effects. Therefore, our work is meaningful for the real-life applications of quantum secret sharing.

Elliptic Blowup Equations for 6d SCFTs. IV: Matters

Given the recent geometrical classification of 6d $(1,0)$ SCFTs, a major question is how to compute for this large class their elliptic genera. The latter encode the refined BPS spectrum of the SCFTs, which determines geometric invariants of the associated elliptic non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds. In this paper we establish for all 6d $(1,0)$ SCFTs in the atomic classification blowup equations that fix these elliptic genera to large extent. The latter fall into two types: the unity- and the vanishing blowup equations. For almost all rank one theories, we find unity blowup equations which determine the elliptic genera completely. We develop several techniques to compute elliptic genera and BPS invariants from the blowup equations, including a recursion formula with respect to the number of strings, a Weyl orbit expansion, a refined BPS expansion and an $ε_1,ε_2$ expansion. For higher-rank theories, we propose a gluing rule to obtain all their blowup equations based on those of rank one theories. For example, we explicitly give the elliptic blowup equations for the three higher-rank non-Higgsable clusters, ADE chain of $-2$ curves and conformal matter theories. We also give the toric construction for many elliptic non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds which engineer 6d $(1,0)$ SCFTs with various matter representations.

BPS relations from spectral problems and blowup equations

Recently an exact duality between topological string and the spectral theory of operators constructed from mirror curves to toric Calabi-Yau threefolds has been proposed. At the same time an exact quantization condition for the cluster integrable systems associated to these geometries has been conjectured. The consistency between the two approaches leads to an infinite set of constraints for the refined BPS invariants of the toric Calabi-Yau threefolds. We prove these constraints for the $Y^{N,m}$ geometries using the $K$-theoretic blowup equations for $SU(N)$ SYM with generic Chern-Simons invariant $m$.

Differential phase shift quantum secret sharing using twin field

Quantum secret sharing (QSS) is essential for multiparty quantum communication, which is one of cornerstones in the future quantum internet. However, a linear rate-distance limitation severely constrains the secure key rate and transmission distance of QSS. Here, we present a practical QSS protocol among three participants based on the differential phase shift scheme and twin field ideas for the solution of high-efficiency multiparty communication task. In contrast to formerly proposed differential phase shift QSS protocol, our protocol can break the linear rate-distance bound, theoretically improving the secret key rate by three orders of magnitude in a 300-km-long fiber. Furthermore, the new protocol is secure against Trojan horse attacks that cannot be resisted by previous differential phase shift QSS.

Efficient Quantum Digital Signatures without Symmetrization Step

Quantum digital signatures (QDS) exploit quantum laws to guarantee non-repudiation, unforgeability and transferability of messages with information-theoretic security. Current QDS protocols face two major restrictions, including the requirement of the symmetrization step with additional secure classical channels and quadratic scaling of the signature rate with the probability of detection events. Here, we present an efficient QDS protocol to overcome these issues by utilizing the classical post-processing operation called post-matching method. Our protocol does not need the symmetrization step, and the signature rate scales linearly with the probability of detection events. Simulation results show that the signature rate is three orders of magnitude higher than the original protocol in a 100-km-long fiber. This protocol is compatible with existing quantum communication infrastructure, therefore we anticipate that it will play a significant role in providing digital signatures with unconditional security.

Sequential Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks for Fast Automatic Modulation Classification

A novel and efficient end-to-end learning model for automatic modulation classification is proposed for wireless spectrum monitoring applications, which automatically learns from the time domain in-phase and quadrature data without requiring the design of hand-crafted expert features. With the intuition of convolutional layers with pooling serving as the role of front-end feature distillation and dimensionality reduction, sequential convolutional recurrent neural networks are developed to take complementary advantage of parallel computing capability of convolutional neural networks and temporal sensitivity of recurrent neural networks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed architecture delivers overall superior performance in signal to noise ratio range above -10~dB, and achieves significantly improved classification accuracy from 80\% to 92.1\% at high signal to noise ratio range, while drastically reduces the average training and prediction time by approximately 74% and 67%, respectively. Response patterns learned by the proposed architecture are visualized to better understand the physics of the model. Furthermore, a comparative study is performed to investigate the impacts of various sequential convolutional recurrent neural network structure settings on classification performance. A representative sequential convolutional recurrent neural network architecture with the two-layer convolutional neural network and subsequent two-layer long short-term memory neural network is developed to suggest the option for fast automatic modulation classification.

Exploiting Behavioral Consistence for Universal User Representation

User modeling is critical for developing personalized services in industry. A common way for user modeling is to learn user representations that can be distinguished by their interests or preferences. In this work, we focus on developing universal user representation model. The obtained universal representations are expected to contain rich information, and be applicable to various downstream applications without further modifications (e.g., user preference prediction and user profiling). Accordingly, we can be free from the heavy work of training task-specific models for every downstream task as in previous works. In specific, we propose Self-supervised User Modeling Network (SUMN) to encode behavior data into the universal representation. It includes two key components. The first one is a new learning objective, which guides the model to fully identify and preserve valuable user information under a self-supervised learning framework. The other one is a multi-hop aggregation layer, which benefits the model capacity in aggregating diverse behaviors. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets show that our approach can outperform state-of-the-art unsupervised representation methods, and even compete with supervised ones.

The resurgent structure of quantum knot invariants

The asymptotic expansion of quantum knot invariants in complex Chern-Simons theory gives rise to factorially divergent formal power series. We conjecture that these series are resurgent functions whose Stokes automorphism is given by a pair of matrices of $q$-series with integer coefficients, which are determined explicitly by the fundamental solutions of a pair of linear $q$-difference equations. We further conjecture that for a hyperbolic knot, a distinguished entry of those matrices equals to the Dimofte-Gaiotto-Gukov 3D-index, and thus is given by a counting of BPS states. We illustrate our conjectures explicitly by matching theoretically and numerically computed integers for the cases of the $4_1$ and the $5_2$ knots.

Non-perturbative approaches to the quantum Seiberg-Witten curve

We study various non-perturbative approaches to the quantization of the Seiberg-Witten curve of ${\cal N}=2$, $SU(2)$ super Yang-Mills theory, which is closely related to the modified Mathieu operator. The first approach is based on the quantum WKB periods and their resurgent properties. We show that these properties are encoded in the TBA equations of Gaiotto-Moore-Neitzke determined by the BPS spectrum of the theory, and we relate the Borel-resummed quantum periods to instanton calculus. In addition, we use the TS/ST correspondence to obtain a closed formula for the Fredholm determinant of the modified Mathieu operator. Finally, by using blowup equations, we explain the connection between this operator and the $τ$ function of Painleve $\rm III$.

Three Jahn-Teller states of matter in the spin-crossover system Mn(taa)

Three high-spin phases recently discovered in the spin-crossover system Mn(taa) are identified through analysis by a combination of first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulation as a low-temperature Jahn-Teller ordered (solid) phase, an intermediate-temperature dynamically correlated (liquid) phase, and an uncorrelated (gas) phase. In particular, the Jahn-Teller liquid phase arises from competition between mixing with low-spin impurities, which drive the disorder, and inter-molecular strain interactions. The latter are a key factor in both the spin-crossover phase transition and the magnetoelectric coupling. Jahn-Teller liquids may exist in other spin-crossover materials and materials that have multiple equivalent Jahn-Teller axes.

Dimensional Pricing Based on Dynamism of Load

Electricity supply is not simply a matter of quantity, but a time lasting service that matches with a wave-like load curve. It logically deserves a pricing based on the curve per se rather than simply integral of load. This paper introduces to price electricity consumption based on dynamism of load, which is an equivalent characterization of load. Orthonormal basis with definable and distinguishable periodicity that can linearly express load curves constitutes a space to capture the dynamism, where coefficients of the basis quantify the dynamism in multiple dimensions. A price function is proposed to map the coefficients to a numerical charge. A pricing model on the space specialized by the Fourier series is derived for the simplest one-source-one-subscriber system and generalized to a single-bus system with multiple sources and multiple subscribers. Examples will demonstrate the use of the proposed pricing and its effectiveness in reflecting the cost of generation to cope with load dynamism and guaranteeing fairness.

Experimental composable security decoy-state quantum key distribution using time-phase encoding

Quantum key distribution (QKD) promises provably secure communications. In order to improve the secret key rate, combining a biased basis choice with the decoy-state method is proposed. Concomitantly, there is a basis-independent detection efficiency condition, which usually cannot be satisfied in a practical system, such as the time-phase encoding. Fortunately, this flaw has been recently removed theoretically and experimentally using the fact that the expected yields of single-photon states prepared in two bases stay the same for a given measurement basis. However, the security proofs do not fully consider the finite-key effects for general attacks. In this work, we provide the rigorous finite-key security bounds for four-intensity decoy-state BB84 QKD against coherent attacks in the universally composable framework. Furthermore, we build a time-phase encoding system with 200 MHz clocked to implement this protocol, in which the real-time secret key rate is more than 60 kbps over 50 km single-mode fiber.

Spatially mixed moiré excitons in two-dimensional van der Waals superlattices

Moiré superlattices open an unprecedented opportunity for tailoring interactions between quantum particles and their coupling to electromagnetic fields. Strong superlattice potential generates moiré minibands of excitons -- bound pairs of electrons and holes that reside either in a single layer (intralayer excitons) or two separate layers (interlayer excitons). The twist-angle-controlled interlayer hybridization of carriers can also mix the two types of excitons to combine the strengths of both. Here, we report a direct observation of spatially mixed moiré excitons in angle-aligned WSe2/WS2 and MoSe2/WS2 superlattices by optical reflectance spectroscopy. The strongly interacting interlayer and intralayer moiré excitons in WSe2/WS2 manifest energy level anticrossing and oscillator strength redistribution under a vertical electric field. We also observe doping-dependent exciton miniband renormalization and mixing near half filling of the first electron miniband of WS2. Our findings have significant implications for emerging correlated states in two-dimensional semiconductors, such as exciton condensates and Bose-Hubbard models, and optoelectronic applications of these materials.

Tight security bounds for decoy-state quantum key distribution

The BB84 quantum key distribution (QKD) combined with decoy-state method is currently the most practical protocol, which has been proved secure against general attacks in the finite-key regime. Thereinto, statistical fluctuation analysis methods are very important in dealing with finite-key effects, which directly affect secret key rate, secure transmission distance and even the most important security. There are two tasks of statistical fluctuation in decoy-state BB84 QKD. One is the deviation between expected value and observed value for a given expected value or observed value. The other is the deviation between phase error rate of computational basis and bit error rate of dual basis. Here, we provide the rigorous and optimal analytic formula to solve the above tasks, resulting higher secret key rate and longer secure transmission distance. Our results can be widely applied to deal with statistical fluctuation in quantum cryptography protocols.

Enhanced nonlinear interaction of polaritons via excitonic Rydberg states in monolayer WSe2

Strong optical nonlinearities play a central role in realizing quantum photonic technologies. In solid state systems, exciton-polaritons, which result from the hybridization of material excitations and cavity photons, are an attractive candidate to realize such nonlinearities. Here, the interaction between excitons forms the basis of the polaritonic nonlinearity. While the interaction between ground state excitons generates a notable optical nonlinearity, the strength of such ground state interactions is generally not sufficient to reach the regime of quantum nonlinear optics and strong single-polariton interactions. Excited states, however, feature enhanced interactions and therefore hold promise for accessing the quantum domain of single-photon nonlinearities, as demonstrated with high-lying Rydberg states of cold atomic systems. Excitons in excited states have recently been observed in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides. Here we demonstrate the formation of exciton-polaritons using the first excited excitonic state in monolayer tungsten diselenide (WSe2) embedded in a microcavity. Owing to the larger exciton size compared to their ground state counterpart, the realized polaritons exhibit an enhanced nonlinear response by more than an order of magnitude, as evidenced through a modification of the cavity Rabi splitting. The demonstration of excited exciton-polaritons in two-dimensional semiconductors and their enhanced nonlinear response presents the first step towards the generation of strong photon interactions in solid state systems, a necessary building block for quantum photonic technologies.

Elliptic Blowup Equations for 6d SCFTs. III: E-strings, M-strings and Chains

We establish the elliptic blowup equations for E-strings and M-strings and solve elliptic genera and refined BPS invariants from them. Such elliptic blowup equations can be derived from a path integral interpretation. We provide toric hypersurface construction for the Calabi-Yau geometries of M-strings and those of E-strings with up to three mass parameters turned on, as well as an approach to derive the perturbative prepotential directly from the local description of the Calabi-Yau threefolds. We also demonstrate how to systematically obtain blowup equations for all rank one 5d SCFTs from E-string by blow-down operations. Finally, we present blowup equations for E-M and M string chains.

Elliptic Blowup Equations for 6d SCFTs. II: Exceptional Cases

The building blocks of 6d $(1,0)$ SCFTs include certain rank one theories with gauge group $G=SU(3),SO(8),F_4,E_{6,7,8}$. In this paper, we propose a universal recursion formula for the elliptic genera of all such theories. This formula is solved from the elliptic blowup equations introduced in our previous paper. We explicitly compute the elliptic genera and refined BPS invariants, which recover all previous results from topological string theory, modular bootstrap, Hilbert series, 2d quiver gauge theories and 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal $H_{G}$ theories. We also observe an intriguing relation between the $k$-string elliptic genus and the Schur indices of rank $k$ $H_{G}$ SCFTs, as a generalization of Lockhart-Zotto's conjecture at the rank one cases. In a subsequent paper, we deal with all other non-Higgsable clusters with matters.
